Update on my thoughts on Valhalla: Since Valhalla is still new I imagine my opinion could change over time, but as of now I'd put it somewhere in the middle. The landscape is gorgeous and the time period is a great one. I'm not a historian but they seem to take a lot more artistic liberties with the clothing and architecture than usual, and that's definitely something that bothers me about it. I'd probably place it either before or after Unity for right now, but I'm excited to see if the Ireland and Paris maps for the DLC add some new and interesting stuff!

Unity is the rare example of a AAA game where the PC version is actually the definitive version and not an afterthought.

I played the game on PS4 last year and the only bug I experienced was the clothes of npcs popping in and out (although it was far from being as bas as in the video, it was just one or two from time to time) Ubisoft definitely did a great job of fixing the game.

@@rootpower8664 I never played it at launch, so I can't speak to how it used to be. I definitely enjoy the setting a lot, but I can say the clothes issue is repeatable on PS4. If you look at any large crowd and point your reticle at it, only NPCs within a few meters of the reticle will have their textures fully loaded. But as I say in the video, performance issues barely factor into how I feel about the setting.

As a Portuguese man, I must mention Rogue's rendering perfectly the Lisbon setting, albeit small. The inclusion of a historical tragedy (the Lisbon earthquake) and the rendering of Terreiro do Paço in 1755 looks amazing. And the NPCs speaking Portuguese during the earthquake, calling out for their loved ones by name (I can's overlook the 'Inês, onde estás', meaning 'Inês, where are you', being that Inês is my daughter's name) is such an amazing detail.

25:22 Alexandria isn't under roman influence, Cyrene is better example of what you wanted to say, it was roman territory during time period in the game (Alexandria was roman after Cleopatra married Ceasar)
Alexandria is much more greek, because Ptolemaic dynasty is from Greece - typical greek architecture, culture and day to day activities, even music you can hear on streets is greek

Egypt didn’t become part of the Roman Empire until after the death of Cleopatra, i.e. 30 BC, when it became the property of Octavian, Julius Caesar’s grand-nephew, to whom the senate gave the name Augustus in 27 BC. Caesar didn’t marry Cleopatra; they had an affair which resulted in the birth of a son, Caesarion. Caesar had a legal wife, Calpurnia, at the time back in Rome.

I agree Unity is a bit bloated but there is an amazing game at the core with strong coop missions, heists, and some quests like the murder mysteries. I think the stealth and flow is unparalleled for AC which is why it would be my number 1. Paris becomes more and more appreciated once you dedicate to mastering the game. The lighting, interior spaces, movement animations, and details in windows are also incredible.
I have to add I haven’t faced many graphical bugs in my several days of time on Xbone.

    • @TheBakeryASMR
      @TheBakeryASMR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Very, very good points! There is a lot of awesome stuff and while I have problems with the game as a whole, the world built there is really good. It’s just that following a game like AC4 that felt so alive in a way that were unique to the era it was representing, Paris felt flat when it came to mission design. Sometimes I go back to AC4 and go whaling and I listen to my crew sing songs, or I pop into syndicate and go for a drive or chase the train or fight in the fight club or free some child laborers, all things that were so unique to those time periods. The activities in Unity have never held me as well and I didn’t feel myself getting as immersed in that setting once the awe of the detailed world wears off. Still, you definitely make a perfectly valid case for why it would be your favorite, because it’s beautiful, detailed, and the interiors were a nice addition.

@hane coral An opinion's an opinion, keep doing your thing! I'm not the biggest fan of Valhalla. It's objectively not pay to win though. A major complaint with that game is that gear hardly matters, you can get through the whole game wearing the starting gear and weapons and never upgrade them and your experience won't be hugely different. Ubisoft's greed is seen in the prices of skins and other cosmetics - not in any gameplay buffs.

I love every single detail of it such as the visions you see in the desert (some were biblical btw) or the sound the air is making when you're entering a pyramid to explore its secrets and treasures and i really believe those small things fully immerse you into it's setting. And all that excluding the DLC's which added four new beautiful locations from egyptian mythology! By far the most beautiful open world i've ever played and i'm saying this as a Greek who also really enjoyed Odyssey's representation of Ancient Greece! The old gameplay was clunky and repetitive, the only thing that refreshed it was a decent storyline, the novelty of free running wore off in each game and ruined its replay ability. AC3 was also in my view quite poor, as was unity; despite both still having the beloved aspects of what you deem to be ‘assassins creed’. My personal favourites are revelations, BF and origins. Origins was great because of the graphical rendition of Egypt and how there was so much do to in both. My top 3 settings are:
    AC: Origins
    AC: Odyssey
    AC: Brotherhood
I like ancient history the most, although Brotherhood isn’t exactly ancient history, it still has ancient architecture.
I’d love to see ancient China, Japan and obviously Ancient Rome, that would be my favourite. Or even Ancient Egypt again but this time in its prime where the Pyramids and the city of Giza was in its in full operation. Although that wouldn’t make sense for an AC game because of AC Origins, I still want to explore that super ancient world haha.

It is really a pleasure, to see and hear the oppinion of a rewiever so clearly intelligent, on a game series i totally adore. Egypt was just gorgeous and felt really alive and vibrant and it really improved the series in terms of game play etc. And AC II is just pure nostalgia. It was my first ac game ever and I still play it today, the story, the setting in Italian Renaissance.. I even visited Florence last year just because of AC.
What I would love as a setting for ac is some medieval theme, maybe 12th/13th century in France or Germany, and what I would love, and I know it's a bit controversial, but a remake of AC I with today's possibilities in technology and performance, because it has so much potential and was just limited at the time.

Odyssey is definitely my favourite. My second is probably France or Egypt. France in my opinion is one of the best because of how detailed it is, especially the monuments in Paris. 16:11 the reason they added so many hills is because Greece is a very hilly place. It has a lot of mountains. Albeit, they added a lot more hills than necessary, but it is still pretty accurate.
