It seems I will never cease discovering wonderful new (to me, anyway) artists on here.
How did it turn out that youtube, a giant evil corporation and so on, has become such an unlikely avenue for the dissemination of decidedly non-commercial material? This piece is just a latest example of something rare and sublime which, were it not for this site's consolidated and indexed library of ALL KINDS of user uploads, I would never have had occasion to encounter.
Compared with the stifling narrowness and homogeneity of default mass culture (pre-ordained selections imposed by media conglomerates through broadcast, print, etc) this represents an unfathomable blessing of abundant alternatives, and a well-deserved second life for a veritable treasure trove of non-commercial music, film, interviews, footage and the like.
Regardless of their other merits, due to the simple economics of supply and demand, works such as this, deemed to be lacking in popular appeal (a self-fulfilling prophecy!) would be given severely limited distribution, if any, before going out of print and effectively disappearing into the "dust bin of history."
They have now been rescued from that tragic and unjust fate, but the credit probably belongs to the advent of digital media formats, which had the quite revolutionary consequence of liberating copies of works (music, video, writing, so on) from the physical medium, completely upending the economics of media distribution.
For a distributor as large and profitable as youtube, the additional cost of hosting non-commercial material in digital format is negligible (compared to keeping physical copies in circulation) but still... there's something quite novel about a massive, for-profit entity offering such a comprehensive array of non-crowd-pleasers, which although it must not hurt their bottom line doubt it helps much, either.
I continue to feel incredibly fortunate to have the means to discover so many interesting composers whose work would simply be out of reach to a previous generation. Not a bad consolation prize for those of us experiencing the twilight of human civilization... it's bittersweet.

He wrote it for her and restsrted numbering his works with this one. This recording makes one realize why.

This piece was composed in 1947. Joy gave its first performance in 1948. (1958) = what, exactly?

The pianist year is better than the music... The composer is not interested in communicating but rather merely introspecting, a dangerous habit of over intellectual creators...

Thank you Joseph for those profound insights. And Bach is also vastly overrated, and some people, ignoring how grotesque they are, are brave enough to expose themselves to everlasting derision.
