Hello, this is a very informative video! I was wondering, what should the rabbits feet look like if it's getting better? Should the fur eventually grow back?
I love this video Haley, you explained everything very well. Good job! My vet recommends using Helosan cream (lotion) for calluses. ¨I thought my bunny Pinky had sore hocks, but when we took him to the vet we found out it was just calluses. We now use Helosan cream (mild, perfume lotion) free on his feet to soften them up so they don't crack. //Aria
So helpful!!!!!! Amazing vid, very informative. Nice editing too must've taken forever! We all appreciate the effort and it's great to learn so much more.
This is great, thank you. I found a reddish pink callous on both of my rabbits hocks tonight and started to panic, but they look like the normal ones in your video!
This video was so informative! My Oreo frowns upon checking for sore hocks! He is not fond of being held in certain positions EEEP! Keep up the amazing care videos, Haley! :)
I have treated lots of cases of sore hocks as a former breeder. The method I use is I apply liquid bandage to the area 1x per day and it is healed completely in less than one week. Liquid bandage costs under $3 for a bottle and 1 bottle will last a very long time even if you have lots of rabbits. I kept my rabbits the way that the vast majority of rabbits are kept in the world which is on wire flooring and once treated the rabbits never had the sore hocks return. Most rabbits never got it.
@@Gr1m_noob1 I just use CVS brand. All you do is flip the rabbit on their back, coat the affected area with the liquid bandage, let air dry for around 30 seconds and set the rabbit back down. Flipping rabbits on their backs is a very low stress way of doing a lot of things including nail clipping.
Hi Haley amazing video thank you so much without you mia ( my rabbit ) wouldn't have as good of a life as she has now you've taught me so much about rabbit and Also your bunnys are adorable
Thank you! This video was very helpful because I had a lot of equations on what flooring my rabbit should go on and things like that, so thank you very much!
My bun has sore hocks, we went to the Vet and she got diagnosed. She ran and thumped on tile floor a lot and now we're treating her with meds. She is happy now and jumps and runs around.
@@tabassum570 You should go to your local vet, they'll tell you. That's what we did at least. I don't know the name of the medicine in english since I'm Estonian, but you should definitely go see a vet.
What do I do if my parents won't listen to me about taking care of rabbits? They are cooped up in their hutches all day, and when they get outdoor time, its in a little penned area. I'm not at the legal age to have a job I like (babysitting is not my forte)and I can't get all the starting materials I wanted. I've tried to get them to watch BudgetBunny and your videos, but they just claim that the internet is full of lies. My Sister and mom say that if we give them a home inside it will smell, but I know that having both rabbits treated will prevent that. (Only my rabbit is treated, and both are litter trained) I worry for their health, and I don't want any bad things to get to them.
I agree with Maddie. Ask them to let you keep them inside as a trial run. Try to show them they are clean animals by cleaning up after them often. Spaying and neutering will remove any urine smell your rabbit has and is also good for their health.
Pro tip: Rabbits actually don't have any oder. Neither does their poop. The thing that smells is their urine, which shouldn't be a problem as long as their litter box is cleaned regularly.
Nice Trick for Paw Check, press your thumb in the middle of a Pawbeans the claws stick and spread out automaticly , its a reflex zone, makes it easier to cut and control the claws Also try camolie tea to thread the paws , its the best for irritated skin , also safe to lick away for the rabbits
My bunny has minor (non-bleeding) sore hocks and urine scolding. I had no idea what to do. She was already free roaming, didn't given her any wire flooring, tried washing her, basically everything. After watching this I cut up 2 large blankets and put them over the carpet, change her litter 3 boxes 3 times a day, and put A+D ointment on her legs (just until the Chlorhexidine comes in the mail) to hopefully make it better. No one mentioned this anywhere online and I truly had to dig to find this even though it's apparently such a common problem. I've had my bunny for only a month and a half after my dad bought her for my little brother and when he refused to care for her, I took her. I absolutely love her and she's my world now, but I've never had a rabbit and nothing was explained to me. I thought she was pulling out her fur from stress or boredom like birds do so I limited noise and got her more toys. Then when that failed I thought it was an allergic reaction and changed pellets, hay, certain veggies, cleaners and even washed hands and changed clothes before touching after petting my dog or cat. nothing worked. Thank you so much for the video. I've only had her a month and I'm already a bad owner... I was so worried she was seriously dying...
Is your bunny desexed? If she isn't fur pulling will be from her having a phantom pregnancy or a real pregnancy and she is using the fur to build a nest for babies. Please get her desexed to help with this as both phantom and real pregnancies are extremely stressful for rabbits and the only way to stop this is to get her desexed. Urine scald really needs to be seen by a vet to determine the cause. It may be due to a urinary tract infection etc. I can tell that you really care for your bunny but please take your bunny to a rabbit savvy vet.
@@lisaxing6722 Thank you so much for replying. It actually got a lot better after I put of the blankets down, used the A+D ointment, and got actual litter for her. She was sleeping in her litter box due to lack of other hides, so I got more and she stopped. Even in just two days it's cleared up almost immediately and her skin isn't red anymore. She's not fixed yet, but I've started a savings account specifically for her vet bills. I plan to get her fixed next month once I have enough. I've called around at different vet offices to find good ones that specialize in bunnies too, but they seem to be lacking... 😅

Just started treating a moderate case of sore hocks on both my netherland dwarves. (They are not thrilled about being in the cage). Today is day 1, for those interested, I will try to post updates as they heal
@@kaitlynnash5688 first off, I am by no means an expert at this so I have no clue what I am doing. Just going off of some kind folks on here. No I have not been wiping their feet off after but I do before soaking. Logically, it makes sense to leave the medicine on their as well. I was also worried about the toxicity of the chemical but the bottle states it is for topical use but after further research, I dont think it is concentrated solution enough to be toxic. My rabbits were licking their paws while soaking, attempting to get it off which worried me. One even tried biting at the shirts soaked in the solution. But after keeping an eye on them (checking their stool and behavior), they are just fine after two days of soaking. Best of luck with your bun!
UPDATE: Day 3. Midday. Minor improvements have been noticed. Some redness and minor swelling has gone down. Considering trying motrim (children's asprin) to help reduce swelling more. Soaking 2 times a day for 20 min.
Hi, Thanks for the video. I bought a gallon of Chlorhexidine on Amazon. The bottle says it is 2% . Is that the strength of the gallon you are using. Also it says on the bottle to dilute 2 tablespoons to 1 gallon of water. Please let me know the correct dilution.
Hey, can you please do a how I built and set my cage up tutorial???!!! I really want to build a cage just like yours, and the cage tours really arent enough. I've seen the how you built the addition of the cage video, but how did you build the wire hidey house? And is like the long part of your cage and the ramp also parts of the addition/ HELP!
Hello! When you say “pale pink callus is normal” do you mean like a light reddish looking bump? Because I noticed today my rabbit has this tiny little red spot on his bottom paw. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain. He eats healthy/consistently, has enough play time, and is never on a wired bottom floor. It’s always carpeted Or flannel-bottom flooring. Do you think he has a sore hock , or is it just like you said a normal callus? It’s not oozing or gross looking, just a random red area. Thanks!
Hi :) What consentration is the chlorhexidine you use? And I don't mean how much water do you mix in with it, I mean how concentrated is the actual bottled chlorhexidine? You can get it in different varieties and usually it is indicated with a persentage.
Hello, thank you for the video. I see it is a bit old, but I am trying to find clorhexidine, the ones I have found say that they contain alcohol, is that correct? My rabbit has 2 injuries on her feet, they are not in the bottom of the foot but the sides, I took hee to the vet already, 2 vets, I have given her antibiotics and cleaned her feet with antiseptics, the skin recovers but inside of her foot there is more matter, then it grows and burst the skin again, I don't know what to clean her injuries with I hope this one works.
Thank you for the video. So if their hock has a pink area, but no warmth or scabbing, or even any roughness. Is that normal? she didn't even flintch when I was looking at it, and I did have to move the fur to see it. I just noticed the smallest touch of pink when she was laying sprawled out, and looked closer. I don't want to treat her if there is nothing wrong.
I know sudocrem helps for sore hocks actually and yes it is safe for rabbits too. Obviously in small quantities, even if the rabbit does ingest some it is a non toxin.
Hey, great video! Now ill be more aware of my Lola. Could you please do a video on keeping bunnies hydrated. I live in an apt in LA with no AC on the 2nd level...which means...is always intensely hot. I always keep fans on, fill her water bottle daily with cold water stored in the fridge, and frozen fruit throughout the day when I can. If I'm home, she is out her cage resting under the bed....I just want to know I'm doing enough esp for when I'm NOT home. Thanks!
is it dangerpus if your bunny licks it? im on day 2 right now and i just saw her lick it, i tolk her no and she stopped but im just wondering. plus they also clean their paws
@@jessiegutierrez5206 I ended up keeping him in a large cage while he slept and ate and while he was out I just put some fleece blankets around my room! You can find them on Amazon for like 10-15$!
I wonder about fleece. A lot of people whose rabbits have sore hocks seem to use fleece and I wonder if since it is a synthetic it irritates their skin on their feet or something. Fleece is polyester.
I have a wood flooring, I know hollands have thicker fur so I've heard it won't be as bad as if I had a breed such as a Dutch which I might get, do you think a towel or two with fleece on top will be bad for up to 3 months? I'm planning on switching the flooring mainly because I want but when I get her spayed I'm getting softer floor for safety and I plan on using it in the future
And for the 3 months I mean just the holland- I will probably get a Dutch or another bunny around the end of Easter from a rescue or another breeder (probably rescue because the bunny will be spayed or neutered already)
If you put compressed news paper as liter and carefresh as the bedding (the bottom of the carefresh is a wire cage), will those two products give my upcoming rabbit sore hocks? 🐰🐰🐰
off topic question... can bunnies get colds or allergies? I have a male and female Holland lops and the past few weeks they've been sneezing a few times a day. they're both inside in air conditioning, but love to lay near a fan. maybe it's too chilly??
So I have like the lenolium flooring that goes over the flore that come in like a role from Home Depot and it is over the puzzle mats in the pen I was just wondering if that is ok
My rabbit lives with me inside but I place blankets on the ground for her to get on but today when I saw her lay down I saw the skin of her back feet and I'm worried if something is wrong and her sore hocks isn't covered with fur if you have advice I would appreciate it 😊
Marissa Knight yes! Just make sure to cover the foam really REALLY well with fleece so your bunny won’t see the mats because he/she will chew on the mats. Hope this helped 😊
Question why does my bunny have yellow feet? We've had that since we bought her from the pet store and I know I know people are going to say that's bad but I couldn't help it and she was adorable she was in that small little cage that had many rabbits were in it (like 3-4) I think it was Petland. And her feet were yellow from once we got her. (She is a white bunny)
Is it bad if I have a thin sheet of vinyl (like the type you buy in rolls) on my carpet? I do always make sure they have a blanket, bed, rug, ect. to get of the vinyl. Also when I let my bunnies out for play time they just sleep, no matter what time of day it is. They are lops and I know lops can be lazy but I think mine are a little lazyer than normal lops. ( They are 5, and 3years old )
We had rabbits and never knew about this so thanks! And does keeping the fur on a rabbit's feet untrimmed prevent sore hocks too? were getting angora rabbits so I need to know :)
Was the very first place you checked Lulu in the back of her foot on the hock, was that considered sore hocks, and would you start to treat it because my rabbit has the same thing and I can't decide to treat it or not :/
I have my mini rex soaking in a 20 qt tall tuppy with handkerchiefs on bottom...blue juice and a nice dry towel for him to keep his front paws up on while I pet him. He is falling asleep.
Also, my dad has worked really hard on a hutch (made out of a dresser) for the rabbit at nighttime... The space is too crammed to fit memory foam on and the floor is made out of wood.... Any suggestions? Please respond because I worry for my poor little rabbit!!!!
the bunny at the end was all "why am i in jail? what did i do?"

Thanks for the great video! I am just worried that if I used memory foam mats with fleece my rabbit would chew all of that up.
This is such a great video! Do you think foam puzzle piece mats (but covered with fleece, most likely) would be better than carpet for a rabbit? :)
I am using puzzle mats covered with old bed sheets for my rabbits. :)
Thanks for replying! I think I will cover my carpet with what you're using, just to be safe. :)
great video!!
Little Lulu was like get off mom! super cute !
Thanks!
Check out my video on how to keep your rabbit cool. It should help. :D
I got scared when now I started to look at my 9 rabbits' feet and thank you so much!
Thanks for the very informative video!
Awesome video Haley!
I wanted to know if its okay for your rabbits to go on hay when they have sore hocks? im a big fan of your videos! :)
Great video thanks for the information
I read “Sore hooks” XD and I read it like 3 times and hen I figured out is “Sore Hocks”
Great video!
I had a question were did you get your green and blue fleece that you showed in this video
Joan fabrics.
is it dangerpus if your bunny licks it? im on day 2 right now and i just saw her lick it, i tolk her no and she stopped but im just wondering.
plus they also clean their paws
Could you make a video of must needs for rabbit emergencies? Things always good to have on hand?
Thank you!!! For my bunny I am going to buy memory foam mats!!!
In some other videos I saw they used iodine can you use that as well???
Ur a lifesaver thank you so much ❤️
Great video, i dont have rabbits but this is great information
what if the room it is in has carpeting as a floor cause my rooms floor is carpet :P idk what to do
ok thank you :D
What did you end up doing? My flooring is all carpet as well
@@jessiegutierrez5206 I ended up keeping him in a large cage while he slept and ate and while he was out I just put some fleece blankets around my room! You can find them on Amazon for like 10-15$!
I wonder about fleece. A lot of people whose rabbits have sore hocks seem to use fleece and I wonder if since it is a synthetic it irritates their skin on their feet or something. Fleece is polyester.
Awww your rabbits are so cute great informative video. :)
where did you get the memory foam mats??? :)
Walmart
Where can I get that box fort thing from 3:00?
Binky Bunny!
Tysm for this! ✨
such a gentle mommy with your bunnehs ^_^
off topic question... can bunnies get colds or allergies? I have a male and female Holland lops and the past few weeks they've been sneezing a few times a day. they're both inside in air conditioning, but love to lay near a fan. maybe it's too chilly??
So I have like the lenolium flooring that goes over the flore that come in like a role from Home Depot and it is over the puzzle mats in the pen I was just wondering if that is ok
I'd put fleece over it just to be safe. Many bunnies can't keep balance on it either, so it's not very comfortable.
Can you do a video of how to prevent woolblock and wet dewlap?
Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you so much for this❤️
My rabbit lives with me inside but I place blankets on the ground for her to get on but today when I saw her lay down I saw the skin of her back feet and I'm worried if something is wrong and her sore hocks isn't covered with fur if you have advice I would appreciate it 😊
Are the childrens foam tiles good too? With fleece?
Marissa Knight yes! Just make sure to cover the foam really REALLY well with fleece so your bunny won’t see the mats because he/she will chew on the mats. Hope this helped 😊
Hey would I be able to use some foam play mats for my bunny like the colorful connectable children foam play mats ? :)
Yup! I use them! I would cover them with blankets or sheets so they don't chew them.
Urine or maybe diet?
Alaska Pets yes, the fur allows for extra cushion on their paws to help prevent sore hocks :)
Thanks!
I never knew that carpet can be bad for their hocks
Thank you for the video, i will try it with our bunny
Thank you so much I have a rabbit that has sore hocks and this helped alot :)
My poor rabbit she got sore hocks in her first home good thing she is better
Good thing mine don't have it
Omg you got me scared for a minute
(My bunnies live in the apartment, sleep in soft beds, run or lay all around)
Was the very first place you checked Lulu in the back of her foot on the hock, was that considered sore hocks, and would you start to treat it because my rabbit has the same thing and I can't decide to treat it or not :/
I have my mini rex soaking in a 20 qt tall tuppy with handkerchiefs on bottom...blue juice and a nice dry towel for him to keep his front paws up on while I pet him. He is falling asleep.
so what does she mean like a bubble near there claws. my rabbit has these pink toes near or under her claws.
The flooring i put in my rabbits cage is aspen, is that ok? Should i put memory foam mats inside it and just wash the mats every week?
Can u please do a video on urine scald
I'm thinking about getting a bunny and hove done A TON of research, I can't find any memory foam so can i put foot pads in between fleece blankets?
How does the mixture go on the sore hock if the fur is over lapping the sore hock my rabbit has really thick fur on the bottom of his feet
Also, my dad has worked really hard on a hutch (made out of a dresser) for the rabbit at nighttime... The space is too crammed to fit memory foam on and the floor is made out of wood.... Any suggestions? Please respond because I worry for my poor little rabbit!!!!
