    Sometimes rabbits get diarrhea. It may be from a change in feed, excessive heat that they can't stay cool in, or perhaps they got sick. In any case, it happens. Just like in people, rabbits need to eat and drink to stay hydrated with proper nutrition. Before you think you should get some Pedialyte, there is a good way to feed and hydrate them using their own food and water.

    Thank you. So i stopped the neighbor from bring yard greens. I asked her to stop telling her, i dont know if someone sprayed. Let the rabbit just have food, a day goes by. Cleaned out pen and added hay., a day goes by. Ok buddy.. (this is one i had to have and hubby let me so not in a rabbit farming way) heck i still dont know if it is a boy or girl. No pun intended. We can handle the rabbit, no problem. Rabbit stays loose sometimes, but not during garden season. I loved the tips on how to feed if needed. I was thinking stress... there are baby chicks below him so i blocked them off. Rabbit made a tunnel to hide, refused anything green today. Drinking alot. Fresh water given. Could be the water? Lol. I dont filter water for the animals or house just for me in a pitcher. Ruling out one thing at a time. I think i grabbed rabbit probiotics and electrolights recently. I'll have to go in and look and find second bowl. Thank you. We'll get this under control.

      In young rabbits you need to remove all feeds and feed ONLY hay. No alfalfa, just hay. If they quit eating you can use critical care.

    Hi, I have an 8 week old bunny. Was fine when I brought her home. Her poop was normal. But same day she started to have diarrhea with some jelly like substance. Really hope it's not coccidiosis. I'm hoping it's just the stress of the move and nothing too serious. Shes drinking and ate a leaf by accident So I saw that as a good sign that she wants food, shes not eating hay yet. I'm getting worried she won't eat at all. It's on day two now. She hoping around but mostly sitting.This video was super helpful, I separated her and removed all alfalfa hay and put regular hay With fresh water. She also has a vet appointment in 6 days. Is there anything else in the mean time that can help her? I have her in a cool and low lighted space of her own. Thanks!

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jellied poop is almost always coccidiosis. You must get her eating again. Look for critical care, or mash her feed and syringe into her mouth. She'll also need to be treated with CORID. Do not wait. If she doesn't get eating she won't make it to her vet appt.

      @@sillyrabbittricksr4kids336 that happened to my bun only had her for 10 days she was full of energy and everything was fine when I last checked in her around 3am that morning and when I next saw her at 9:30am her play pen was full of diarrhea and so was she covered in it I was in shock like what is going on. I cleaned her up and kept her bundled up in my arms and gave her mashed up pellets and water in syringe. Shortly after I noticed if I tried to put her down she would put her paws in her water bowl and kind of just lay in her water bowl it was so weird like she was slowly dying and when I would cuddle her she would seem okay again. She passed around 6:30 that night and no vets near me were rabbit savvy so I tried reaching out to those online vets but it was already too late. Earlier I massaged her tummy like I saw in another video but all this mucus filled diarrhea was gushing out of her and I just had a feeling that it was already too late. She got very weak and passed within a couple hours. It was really hard to watch that and feel like I failed her. And not understand or have any rabbit savvy vets to help around me. Help!! I have a 5 week old bunny who has diarrhea. He doesn't seem like he's growing, his two siblings are completely fine. He is very lethargic but he is drinking water. He had alfalfa pellets, alfalfa hay and unlimited water plus mommas milk. I am so scared he will pass away. What do I do? Just provide Timothy Hay and water? 😥 😔 😟

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off, NEVER feed alfalfa hay. It's far too high in calcium on top of an alfalfa pellet.
      Add in the Timothy in place of the alfalfa, and I would go ahead and treat for coccidiosis. You'll want to pick up CORID. Its easy to use since you add it to the water (just follow bottle directions) and won't hurt mom or siblings.
      If he's not growing there's always the chance that there is just something wrong with him. Once they become lethargic at that age they are often very hard to save.

      No. Would you put a dog down for an upset stomach? Prey animals will stop eating when they are ill. With rabbits that can stop the gut from functioning. I prefer to use animal grade electrolytes. I'm not familiar with the dioralyte brand. In human electrolytes our best choice in the US is Pedialyte. Basically you are lookong for very low sugars.

    Where did you get your scale and basket?

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought mine second hand through an acquaintance, but you can get the same scale through Bass Equipment or KW Cages. Both sell baskets that can be attached as well, though I think the KW basket is shorter. The tall basket is great for keeping juniors in, but the shorter basket would be much better for weighing adults.

      She has coccidiosis. She needs CORID, sulfamet or toltrazuril. Chances are high at that age the rabbit will not pull through, so be prepared for that. All other rabbits will also need treated as it is contagious.
      Pull all feed but hay when you treat with the meds. Depending on which drug you can get you'll need to google dosage directions. You can usually buys those meds at a farm supply store like Tractor Supply.

      @@bronwyncarabott8615 generally they don't need hay as the feed provides the necessary fiber. Feeding hay is important during times of stress (like moving). Just keep offering it. Some good tips but never ever put rabbits on their backs. They can die from shock or freak out and break there backs.
    To syringe feed a rabbit put a blanket ot towel on the floor and sit on the floor on your knees and place your bunny on the floor placed sitting inbetween your knees. The rabbit should be facing forward, lean over your rabbit and syringe feed him or her. It's the easiest way, trust me. I've worked with animals in a vets for years and I own rabbits myself

    • @SpragueRiverHomestead
      @SpragueRiverHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      We've raised hundreds of rabbits over the years. Dying of shock from being turned over is absolutely false. Ever been to a rabbit show? Every animal is turned over to be inspected. As is every 4H animal.
