  • Vitamin K (Quinones) helps with gamma-carboxylation of coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X.
    Vitamin K deficiency can lead to bleeding in neonates (hemorrhagic disease of the newborn), bone fracture, as well as soft tissue (vessel) calcification.

    I think there's a mistake on the vitamin K side of the cycle at 14:20. The active form should be hydroquinone, not quinone. There's also a missing reaction: Hydroquinone (active) -> Vit k epoxide (inactive) -> Quinone (inactive) -> Hydroquinone again (active).

    Very good content, really appreciate it.
    One point though, in Sherwood's physiology it's written triglycerides are broken down into FFAs and monoglycerides, are you sure it can also be further broken down to glyceride? (in the intestines of course )

    • @MedicosisPerfectionalis
      @MedicosisPerfectionalis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're correct!
      I just said glycerides for simplification purposes. If you look closely in the video at minute 08:57, you will see it written in a gray color.
      Hope it helps!

    Is getting micronutrients from natural foods more efficient than taking a supplement?

    • @MedicosisPerfectionalis
      @MedicosisPerfectionalis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey LanYu! Good question!
      It's a false dichotomy...Nothing is true categorically, everything is incremental.
      There are pros and cons to everything!
      For a young person who can be aware of their diet, then natural foods are great.
      For an old person who has cognitive impairment and fallen teeth, supplements are a better option.
      For a person who doesn't wash fruits and vegetables properly, supplements may be the way to go, becuase there is a lower risk of contamination.
      For a person who wants to receive a constant, optimal amount of micronutrients everyday for life, then one tablet of multivitamins a day is not a bad idea.
      Hope it helps!
      Thank you so much for watching my videos!

    It's been proven a newborn gut is NOT sterile. The womb is also not sterile. In the absence of intervention, it is very healthy and full of flora to help absorb vitamins. If the mom took antibiotics in pregnancy or during labor then the infant gut is definitely not as healthy as it should be. All newborns being given erythromycin eye ointment also reduces their gut health.

    21:42 MGP is not group of proteins like you put (Matrix Gla Proteins) but it should be (Matrix Gla protein) because it is a single protein with gene symbol MGP. There are other GLA containing proteins not mentioned here too like UCMA, POSTN, PRRG1,2, 3,4, TSPAN7,...
