Dr. Bri… A friend of mine is thinking of going into the psych nurse practitioner program for Capella… Have you heard of any problems in the regular or psych MP program with preceptorship or Clinicals availability? My friend is pretty convinced that they are affordable, but I’m worried about their resources.

Hi Bri! Thank you for sharing! I’m a 57 yr old RN about to go back to college to get my BSN online after 21 yrs as an ADN 😱. After being out that long should I do traditional path or flex path? Also, at what point did you take Statistics & Pathophysiology?

Hey! I noticed that you said each core class would take around a month minimum to complete, so does that mean you completed all of the other classes in one month since you finished the program in nine?

Hi Bri! I received my BSN and MSN from Capella (concentration on Education). I did flex path for both. Can you give me an idea on how long the DNP program takes? I can’t seem to get a straight answer. Tx!!

Hey Aliece, I am looking at doing the same-but researching the RN to MSN route. Is that what you did? I haven’t used my license in years and confirmed with Capella today that I don’t need to be working as a nurse to do their program(s), so that was good to hear. Are you happy you went with Capella? Thanks, Sunny

@@sunnygirlrn Hi there! I actually took the RN to BSN then BSN to MSN. I loved Capella and learned a lot. I would recommend them. My BSN took a little over a year to obtain and the MSN I completed in a little less than a year. Both Flex Path. My only regret is not knowing that no one will hire you as an educator (even with a MSN) unless you have experience with teaching but I can’t gain experience without being hired. It’s a vicious cycle. That’s why I was interested in the DNP but am very hesitant that if if I put all the work in, no one will hire me.

Thank you for the reply, Aleice. Congrats to you! That has to be so disheartening after working so hard to get your MSN, to have trouble finding experience. I encourage you to keep going with applying for teaching opportunities. I got my Associates years ago in a small, rural town and many of my co-workers at the time did online programs and ended up teaching for the community college in the hospital we all worked at, and several continued on, becoming NPs. Hopefully you will find a great place soon, willing to give you a role, and then you’ll be on your way. Either way you go, I wish you much success!
