PTSD has taking its toll on me I lost my job with the FDNY after 14 .5 years. I can write a book of all I was exposed to from 22 years and on. Bushwick , Bedstuy Brooklyn,Failed marriages, estranged children, extreme behavior. I had zero compassion or empathy, Thanks
Notice how he talks about it now that he’s retired? First responder employers are terrible to people with PTSD, in fact, they are a major cause and contributing factor to it. You wouldn’t dare see him talking like this if he had 10 years to go until his retirement.
Sneaky Pewpz yes it is very high. In law enforcement we lose around 7 to suicide for every 1 killed in the line of duty. I have had 4 close co-workers commit suicide since 2008. If I knew back then what I know now I wouldn’t have gone down this path either. It’s only because of media attention that it’s now starting to get addressed at all and believe me, what is being done is very little compared to what is needed.

This mans story needs to be shared with every first responder. It helps, it really does.
Thank you for sharing your brave story. I know it will help other firefighters and their families to better understand what they go through. Thank you for every time you responded to the call that no one should have to witness. I hope you are more at peace every day. There was sadly nothing you could have done for the boys that night. Ptsd is terrifying. It cuts your emotions off. And it makes life a horror story. God bless you. Healing to all.
Firefighters should get more recognition, because they throw themselves in dangerous situations so that you can get to safety. A thank you card, or just hangout with them while they’re aren’t working. Just anything to help their state of mind

Thank you to all fire fighters and first responders. My neighbor is a firefighter and he had to take some time off work. Hearing stories are one thing but actually being there is a lot more. So much doesn't make the news.

I’m a fireman in the ghetto. Literally saw 2 dead people last shift on 2 different calls. What gave him ptsd is a weekly occurrence in my department for the city stations. Im waiting for ptsd to come in a couple of years
Stay strong captain my town is also called Grand Prairie in texas my home town.

Every firehouse needs psychologists to deal with these first responders immediately after they return from a bad incident

Our job is to help. First and Last sentence. We'll do what we can, every time. We want to help. We remember when it's not enough. It's our job, it's our purpose, it's our self. Good on the men who endure. I'm there with you Captain, Leutenant, AO, we'll talk about it over the kitchen table.
Its an intense job , once your in your always on the job, at the hall and home, your ready all the time theres no call the same , you can go from eating dinner to 5 10 min later doing a primary search . Crazy!

Dude you gotta just talk to your family all the time, and friends if you have them. Tell everyone and keep going there before then you can move on.

Firefighters and paramedics might be heroes, but in the end they're just human like all of us.
BETWEEN BREATHS-THEN BLINKING--
In the summer of 1999, I was involved in an altercation with Captain Robert David Taylor from the Richmond BC Fire-Rescue. After the incident, I felt that as far as I’m concerned, Capt. Bob Taylor can burn his way to hell the next time he fights a fire. For this reason, I have absolutely no sympathy, sadness, pity, or guilt whatsoever when I found out that he committed suicide as a result of PTSD on October 14, 2018. Because even though this despicable fireman didn’t perish as a result of fighting a fire, the fact that he decided to punish him by killing himself is just as satisfying for me.

maybe best he see a Cannibis Doctor and get a Prescription for 1-3 Grams per day , but he better get a High Paying job because JustDope sent the prices of Canadian weed up to 60 $ per Gram in Quebec 🚬
