Love you guys ❤️Where Have All The Flowers Gone? by Joan Baez. Some in the world think Americans love war because we seem to be in it....constantly. Our brothers, sons and fathers have died on foreign soils in war after God forsaken war. Russia is a dick. Not the people, the government. Anyway, I am so sorry you had to experience that. Love to you both.😢☮️❤️❤️❤️
British army veteran. Anyone that has fought in a conflict is my brother in arms. I have no place for hate in my heart, i have seen what hate does and it just divides and keeps the powers that be in power. Great tune.
"We are fools to make war on our brothers in arms" If the words don't get you, or the voice, or the pictures, that damn gorgeous guitar certainly will. Amazing reaction gentleman. And never apologize for displaying emotion. It only makes you more human.🕯️

Uuuuggghhhh. I feel your pain. So sorry. Dire straits is not just music but a different kind of art form. The guitar is so emotional. Peace Brothers. More Dire straits please
I think the song is written in the first person. A soldier who is dying in these mist covered mountains, his home now and forever. His thoughts are so poignant and powerful. He seems at peace with his ending while thinking of his brothers in arms and the world he is leaving behind. Sung so softly with that crying guitar, it is beyond heartbreaking. Impossible for me to listen to without tearing up.
Luitenant Lewis. R.I.P. This is who the song was written about. Shot in 1982 as the Argentinas were retreating. Died on a mountain inches Falklands, surrounded by his Brothers in Arms
This song is sung from the perspective of a soldier who is dying on the battle field. He is expressing his gratitude for his fellow soldiers, who are trying to save him, and, knowing he is dying, saying goodbye to them😢😮
A very beautiful song by Mark Knopfler. He wrote this a few years after the war in the Faulkland Islands. This brings a lot of emotion to anyone who has feelings.Thank you and God bless you Patrick and George.
Oh I can't stop it. My dad fought in the Pacific in WWII and my brother fought in Vietnam. I saw how it affected them but they were both proud. My dad was buried at age 92 with full military honors and and a letter to us from President Obama. They stayed in touch with their brothers-in-arms forever, my dad into his 90s. My brother went up the river like in Apocalypse Now. It transformed him. He saw his friend blown up right beside him. We stayed in touch during the entire time he was in the service by letters. We are best friends today. I love them both so much!

My sincerest condolences for what your country went through in 2008, and what Ukraine is going through now. We are indeed fools to make war on our brothers and sisters in arms. 😢
as a former soldier, this song strikes really hard at my heart too. makes me misty-eyed every time I hear it... "In peacetime, sons bury their fathers, but in wartime, fathers bury their sons. War upsets the natural balance."

I cried with you my brother. I think the video to this song is also a masterpiece. Some people can play a guitar and others can play WITH a guitar and create magic. This band is awesome.
It makes me emotional and only listened to it because it is you guys. I came of age watching tv every evening as they gave the numbers of our men killed that day in Vietnam. When the war ended my generation thought maybe the world would give peace a chance and we would see no more war. Then came Faulkland and your generation's brothers in arms. Now we have Ukraine. So never try to stop the teard when you hear this song.
This song makes me emotional because I served in the USMC in the late 70's. All my Staff NCO's were Korean and Vietnam combat veterans. I saw the pain in their eyes , they were treated the worst of any veterans in history. Back then no one thanked them for their service to the USA. I didn't stay in the USMC because of the way we were treated by our government and citizens of this country. Know a days everyone wants to thank me for my service. And I tell them to thank the veterans who trained me for combat. They deserve it way more than me, I didn't have to experience the horror of war because of them. I joined the USMC in 1978 when no one was thanking any of us for our service. I went to 6 other countries and felt more respect from those people than I did in my own country. The Australians treated us the best out of all of them. Because there citizens respect their veterans more than America. I'm sorry if my words insult you but that's how it was for my brothers in arms.
I appreciate you, & your brothers in arms, for your service & as an Australian I appreciate your words about Aussies. We do appreciate & respect our soldiers, past (& passed) & present.
think he's saying thank you, to his Brothers In Arms as he dies on the battlefield, ... and trying to tell us all we are all supposed to be Brothers In Life, all of us. "The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war." Douglas MacArthur.
A profound song. "We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms" indeed. Despite this song appearing to centre around Knopfler's guitar, the excellent a capella group Home Free released a deeply #Haunting a capella arrangement of this.... & It's possibly the most moving vocals-only piece I've ever heard. Please give that a listen sometime. ;)
I'm so envious how close u to brothers are..I have a brother 7 years younger than me and we have not spoken in 12 years when my mum died..We may never talk again..Stay close
Beautiful reaction guys. Beautiful. And the track was cut short by whoever posted that video. The guitar plays on for longer on the original, at least by a minute. It’s impossible to listen to that track and not *feel* every note. It’s a masterclass in subtlety.
That was the official Dire Straits video th-cam.com/video/jhdFe3evXpk/w-d-xo.html I'm not sure if the original album track was longer, I have a feeling it might have been. Of course Dire Straits did many versions of the song (like all their songs) in the course of their live performances, and some of them were much longer. One of the better long ones (IMO) was their 'On the Night' recording: th-cam.com/video/q2rx3IAEISA/w-d-xo.html [Edit:] You're right. The official music video is 5 minutes, the album track is 7 minutes, here: th-cam.com/video/9ykZc5E6UEE/w-d-xo.html
Mark Knopfler (like David Gilmour) makes his guitar speak - this is what emotions sound like. If you don't get moist eyes listening to this, you have no soul. Thanks for bringing this incredible piece of music back into the light, in spite of the obvious pain it brought you. Be well - and keep doing what you do (and never, ever apologize for your feelings).
I'm 26 and Gilmour and Knopfler are my top 2 favourite musicians of all time. I don't have a lot of friends with the same taste in music and seeing this comment made me very happy. Cheers to you, good sir.
100%. The first time I heard it upon release it stopped me in my tracks. It does the exact same in 2022. Brothers in Arms and Why Worry hit me everytime.
Mark Knopfler wrote this about the Falklands war between Britain and Argentina. It's a dying soldier talking to the soldiers around him, his brothers in arms. Heartbreaking.....
My late husband was a Vietnam vet and died young because of it. This was played at his service. He loved his Marines. Songs like this make me miss him more.
I don't think any one can truly appreciate the emotion of this song unless they have struggled and felt the hardship of a violent war it creates a bond between your brothers and sisters that never breaks, all those people that riot and demonstrate over every thing and nothing these days have no idea of what these brave young men and women went through to preserve there rights to demonstrate and speak freely
In 2007, a new version of this track featuring Mark Knopfler was released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War. Proceeds from the sale of the single went to a program that brought British veterans back to the site of the war in an effort to help them deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Of all the people out there jumping on the “reaction bandwagon”, I have to say that you guys are so very genuine. You don’t stop the video too much and I will subscribe to you.
How have you never heard of Dire Straights and Brothers in arms? I grew up with them in the 80's and even my kids to this day know all their music. Mark is a living legend song writer and musician!
Mark is such a lyrical & emotional guitarist. This was a great piece of music relating to anti-war & how crazy it is but at the same time supporting all brothers in arms no matter who or where they are. When will man or world leaders realise WAR IS INSANE!!!!! But I appreciate & love to see your reaction to this music from so long ago x
Never apologize for showing your emotions. It's one thing humans have the ability to do but try not to. The wonderful part of music is it frees us from holding our emotions back. Peace!
Mark does a call and response with his guitar. He's saying what we're capable of saying with the limitations of the language, which are many. The guitar doesn't have those limitations. I think it was Gustav Flaubert who said something like, "Our language is like banging on cracked kettles with wooden spoons for bears to dance to, when we long to make music that will melt the stars!"
The scenes he sets, the stories he tells, the classic beauty of his music - Mark Knopfler is in a class by himself. All best thoughts to you guys and your families and friends. Thanks for this.
This Song came out in 1985 but was written around time just after the 1982 Falklands War and speaks to many about the loss of life in War, and the futility of life & that although we all enhabit one world we all live in our own world, and can fight our brothers in arms. In 82 there was a battle at night (Tumbledown) that lead to eventually old fashioned bayonet and hand to hand and many died reading about this battle & listening to this song hits hard. There are so many mist-covered mountains where if the dead could talk would say about thier brothers in arms. RIP B in A
OK, I love you guys!! I'm a 56 yr old Disabled vet, Marine Corps. My dad was career Army. This song has always given me hope that our world would somehow get along! It's so sad. "It's wrong to make war on our brother's in arms!!!" We need to share this earth!
Wow,, very few people can appreciate the devastation of war as can George and Frederick. They saw what war does to a country and it's people first hand even though they were young, they remember the suffering. I joined George and cried because I too felt in my soul what Mark wants to say in the words, in his masterfully constructed cords and in the way he played them.
Years ago I listened to this song before going to bed. I was warm, my wife and babies were cozy in their rooms..while brave soldiers were losing limbs and life defending our home. God bless them..they made less than minimum wages and had families at home they wrote to and cherished a stamp-sized photo of the one they loved. Unchained Melody is one of those letters sung by the Righteous Brothers you have to hear.
,Blesa you both war is pointless nobody wins a war my heart goes out to you. As a band they are amazing. It's so great to see a new generation appreciating music from my era I'm 72 now, and this song really still moves me to tears they are great musicians.
Hope you guys are doing ok. Ive been listening to this song for 35 years. I used to sing it to my baby's to help them to sleep and even still it chokes me up. Hi George and Patrick, you are the men, you are the men. I feel the same as you. These are the voice of our pure hearts. Thank you bros. As a Turkish neighbor i did not forget the unjust RussoGeorgian wars and your patriot martyrs. Lest i forget! Now Ukraine! May God be with you, the innocent. Respectfully regards from Istanbul. Keep goin fellas.
You guys rock. Because uou get the Dire Straits thing. Mark and his band are special. The emotional guitar work is just spectacular
The one thing that was done right with that whole conflict was the Vietnam war memorial. A list of names of the lost set in stone.
I appreciate you, & your brothers in arms, for your service & as an Australian I appreciate your words about Aussies. We do appreciate & respect our soldiers, past (& passed) & present.
Much respect from NZ 🇳🇿
go back there. find some of them. ask the authorities to help you. It will give you closure.
think he's saying thank you, to his Brothers In Arms as he dies on the battlefield, ... and trying to tell us all we are all supposed to be Brothers In Life, all of us.
"The soldier above all others prays for peace,
for it is the soldier who must suffer
and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war."
Douglas MacArthur.
Please give that a listen sometime. ;)
I'm so envious how close u to brothers are..I have a brother 7 years younger than me and we have not spoken in 12 years when my mum died..We may never talk again..Stay close
makes me cry too
Beautiful reaction guys. Beautiful. And the track was cut short by whoever posted that video. The guitar plays on for longer on the original, at least by a minute. It’s impossible to listen to that track and not *feel* every note. It’s a masterclass in subtlety.
That was the official Dire Straits video th-cam.com/video/jhdFe3evXpk/w-d-xo.html
I'm not sure if the original album track was longer, I have a feeling it might have been. Of course Dire Straits did many versions of the song (like all their songs) in the course of their live performances, and some of them were much longer. One of the better long ones (IMO) was their 'On the Night' recording: th-cam.com/video/q2rx3IAEISA/w-d-xo.html
[Edit:] You're right. The official music video is 5 minutes, the album track is 7 minutes, here:

Every tone on the right place... Thats what music is all about... Mark and David
Its a beautiful track ,The whole album is legendary
100%. The first time I heard it upon release it stopped me in my tracks. It does the exact same in 2022. Brothers in Arms and Why Worry hit me everytime.
What beautiful young men you are with beautiful hearts xxxxx
The absolute best ever. Mark makes his guitar sing.
A lovely comment and I agree Mark does make his guitar sing
Mark Knopfler wrote this about the Falklands war between Britain and Argentina.
It's a dying soldier talking to the soldiers around him, his brothers in arms.
Heartbreaking.....
My late husband was a Vietnam vet and died young because of it. This was played at his service. He loved his Marines. Songs like this make me miss him more.
Thank you for sharing your story, war destroys much more than the lives of the soldiers, it impacts family, community, and nationhood...😪❤
You need to see their On The Night tour performance of this song. It will blow you away!
Over 30 yrs later this beautiful song still causes me to break out in goosebumps & tears ♥️
Mark Knofpler is easily my favorite guitarist and i first heard them somewhere around 1974 and he still beats all!
Beautiful dedication. Stop war. Peace.
Yes, it is!!! God bless our veterans who put their lives on the line for our freedom and our country!!!
Mark is a living legend song writer and musician!
the first time I heard this song it made the
hair stand up on the back of my neck. It resonates through your soul.
I think it was Gustav Flaubert who said something like, "Our language is like banging on cracked kettles with wooden spoons for bears to dance to, when we long to make music that will melt the stars!"
the lyrics to this song are pure poetry
This was written in the aftermath of the Falklands Conflict in 1982.
Immortal song
I'm two years late, but I've cried with you bro!
Love you guys.
Strong reaction ! Maybe now could you listen at TELEGRAPH ROAD by Dire Straits (Album version).
In my opinion, better LIVE in the last 10 years.
Tiens t'es là, toi ? Mais vu la chanson, je comprends.
'We have just one world
But we live in different one'
So damn true. We just have alienated ourselves from each other !
RIP B in A
Mark Knopfler makes his guitar sing and weep like an angel.
I joined George and cried because I too felt in my soul what Mark wants to say in the words, in his masterfully constructed cords and in the way he played them.
your reaction at the end was so pure its amazing what good rock groups do to Us
Very heartfelt reaction to a superb song and performance by Dire Straits - -Mark Knopfler's guitar work and vocals are outstanding.
Hi I m a Dutch Army Veteran this song is for me 1 of the best songs there is thanks for jour reaction
“We have just one world, but we live in different ones”.
Suffering when human stupidity leads to war ... and this grieving guitar is so moving ...
Watching your reaction video brung me to tears again as the song always has but for the first time ever i felt that someone else was affected in the the same way i have always been by this song. Mark Knofler is a once in a lifetime genious and captured everything profound about war destructiin and brotherhood in one song. Peace be with you both. Hope uou stay safe.
Regards from an ex scot in oz
Amazing gift to be able to write a tune and lyrics that speaks to so many people from so many different countries and cultures.
MK and his guitar are totally the best. Your reaction was real and honest. Thank you
This song makes me cry every time. It’s magical. The video is also magical. Both bring the reality of war.
Your honest, genuine reaction mirrors my own feelings about this song.
It’s almost as if Knopfler is a wizard and he casts a spell on your tear ducts with his playing. If it doesn’t make you shed a tear, you’re not human.
