Foxes have cubs to feed and that style of hedgehog house without a partition makes it all the easier for a fox to grab its sleeping resident. You already know for certain you have a fox, it's much too risky. As tempting as it is (I used to do it myself), don't lift the lid to see whether or not you have a hedgehog in the house. At best, it may move on because it won't feel safe, at worst, if it's a nursing mother, it may abandon or even kill the hoglets. It's breeding season for hedgehogs and unfortunately rescues are already getting abandoned hoglets in. I bought almost that exact house my first time but it was really rubbish and got mouldy because the roof wasn't waterproof and I'd put it directly on the ground . I had to chuck it in the end and bought one of the top of the range ones instead. I think though that you might get more out of making a brick one yourself. They're hedgehog rescue approved and it would be vastly cheaper than paying for something like a Riverside Gold since all you need are some house bricks and a couple of paving slabs/roof tiles. There are several tutorials on TH-cam and if you have a hedgehog move in, you can say you built its house yourself 🙂 I'd definitely recommend finding out who your local rescue is as well, just in case you need one. I'm not exaggerating when I say that rescuers are angels for the work they do.

I'd keep that partition in the hedgehog house as it helps just incase Mr Fox comes along and tries to get hold of the hedgehog as they can hide behind the wall

I hope your camping holiday went well. Also hoping to see your new sweet peas thriving in your next blog. Absolutely nothing wrong with buying plants, those who tell you everything should be raised from seed obviously have unlimited time and space.
I think you should have kept the central divider in the hedgehog house. The reason it's there is to prevent larger animals getting in to the hedgehog house to disturb the hedgehog.
Emma tends to be heavy handed then steps back re evaluating , she has always jumped in and pulled things up, or taken divisions down chaotic to her last, so funny 🤣 love her

You were my inspiration to put our name down for an allotment. I always wanted one and after six months we got one, a great one at that. Yes it needs work but it's everything I dreamed of. I love how you're always still learning too. Your allotment is wonderful and you deserve great success with it and how much effort you've put into it ❤
"Why does everything have to be wonky" LOL!!! I love it!!! Every part of my garden has something wonky in it and I think wonkiness makes our gardens unique!
I agree with nitelite - the central wall in the hedgehog house is so that bigger animals can't reach in and get the HH and it's babies.Please put it back.
You have definitely Inspired me I binged watched all of your playlists, and as a result I claimed a very large raised bed border outside my tiny house at my daughter and son in laws, and created my own little " allotment plot" right here in The United States. Complete with raised beds, wood chip paths, a pumpkin arch , sweet peas, green bean structures and a potting bench. It's planted with all the good things and has become a real outdoor living space for me. Thank you for all the inspiration!
I take the occasional ripe pea pod, shuck it, then bury the peas beneath the plant. No need for drying them or anything. Was amazed fresh green pea plant will sprout within days. You can get a constant rotation happening until frost by doing this.
Emma I've watched your vlogs since day one when foxy was staring at you round the corner of next doors shed😂. I wait in anticipation of your videos. I have a plot and it's my absolute sanctuary. Enjoy your holiday 😊
Neem oil spray in the evening works. Never use it when it's sunny though cos it will burn the leaves.
Plant some Alyssum next to your plants, those attract beneficial predators and if done right, make a great ground cover that prevents weeds as well.
If you allow that chard to bloom, it will drop seeds and you'll have more chard. I do this with my lettuce and brassica. Love your gardens, love your videos! Enjoy your camp out!
Your job is done Emma! This year I have grown my very first plants from seed. Tomato, cucumber, courgette, pea, pepper, carrots and radishes and marigold. I don't have much space but have used raised planters around the perimeter of the garden. It's certainly become an obsession, checking on them each morning on my habitual slug and snail patrol. I hope I can stay eternally optimistic in my setbacks the way you do. Thank you for the inspiration!

Plant murder IS acceptable if you have a fully functioning compost bin. THEN we call it biomass. EVERYBODY, and especially every gardener should compost like its 1999!!!!❤😂
Compost your enemies
Use neem oil as a preventative measure before the leaf minor shows up.. if you know they are coming then you can spray to prevent them.. once you have them tho you can’t get rid of um

I think the sweet peas needed to come out ...I have a smallish garden all flowers and shrubs and can't afford to keep plants that aren't performing their best ..hanging on to them is disappointing every time you look xx❤
Love your vids! My leaf miner damages dont look like that - mines look more like white lines on plant but never holes. That more looks like my snail damage on my plants.
Chard, cabbages, spinach, sliced, a dash of water, a sprinkle of pepper, steamed in microwave for 3 1/2 minutes if not sweet enough a dollop of honey or butter.
That hedgehog house will be a hot piece of real estate once the hedgehog community gets the memo it's vacant & no rent! I'm sure they won't mind doing slug patrol. Best of luck with Sweetpeas Part 2.
I hope you had a lovely time camping Emma. Fingers crossed your sweet peas will do really well. I am growing my sweet peas in a large terracotta pot this year and haven’t had any problem with slugs or any other pests, knock on wood. It may be something to consider for next year. Your plot is looking fab.

If you’re going to spray them with a washing up liquid solution, make sure it’s eco-friendly washing up liquid. 🤙🏻👍🏻
An old clothes airer turned upside down is great for growing peas
Another plot holder used "sour dough starter" smeared on chunks of cardboard to catch slugs, it worked as long as the cardboard is seen and disposed of in compost or rubbish bins.
I noticed you have quite a bit of plastic ground covers, those can be shelters for slugs. If you can, see if there's a else you could use.
Even a woven type of cover might be better.
I don't know what the leaf miners use to create more population, but it might be something to find out.
Starter is simply flour + water fermented.
Did I hear you mention ‘woodcote’? Could it be you are located where I grew up?? How strange since I’m watching this from where I live now in France 😆

emma hun, the bit of wood you took out oh hogs home is to stop foxes and cats getting to them when they are sleeping/ hibernating. leave it for now but put it back if anyone moves in

I still think the damage is at the bottom on the sweet peas because it's not leaf miner :) they do more wiggly looking patterns, better safe than sorry sometimes though fingers crossed for the new batch there will be sweet peas,

SB plant invigorate works well for infested plants and is organic

I have also just recently grown chard (I got free seeds) and don’t quite know what to do with it. So far I have chopped it up and thrown it into soup or put it on a sandwich instead of lettuce.
Does your garden/allotment have a Facebook group? Our community garden has a FB group and people ask other gardeners to water their plot when they leave town. I usually just let nature take its course, but it is nice that other people will look out for your plot.

I thought leaf minor are fine? They always went for my chard and beetroot but like you I don't like chard anyway so was just a pretty plant. They took the leaves of my beetroot but the root was fine.
Surely with sweetpea it's just thr leaf again not the flower? I felt so bad watching them being yanked out.
