  • Armed and Dangerous is a very tense and exciting episode of Strangers, written by series creator Murray Smith (like all the episodes in this season) and with a very shocking ending. The episode begins with what should be a routine escort job for Bulman and Willis but things go sour when their prisoner, John Rutter, is targetted by his fellow gang members because they think he might “grass” on them.
Rover SD1 spotters go to 0:57 and 2:50
    (Plot spoilers ahead)
With Rutter at death’s door in hospital and his family kidnapped and under threat the Inter-City team follow a trail that leads them to Scarborough and a very dangerous situation.

A link here between The XYY Man and Howard's Way. Maurice Colbourne appeared in the cast of the latter (as Tom Howard) with Stephen "Spider Scott" Yardley as Ken Masters. Rachel Davies, as Jean Rutter, also appeared in an episode of The XYY Man. And there is also the thread from that original series in baroque music as a listening choice by cast members.
Some of you might also recall Maurice Colbourne playing "a former SAS operative and convicted criminal who is released from prison and recruited to act as an undercover agent within Birmingham's underworld" in Gangsters from the late '70s. I see there's a YT channel that has the series uploaded, for those who might be curious to watch it: • Gangsters incident 1

I'm forty-five minutes into this episode, and I'm already digging it. So much better than the first two episodes of this particular series. Looking forward to Part Two.

SD1 -- perfect transition from the usual Cortinas and Granadas they've been rolling around in.

Indeed. Am watching a metallic blue one being restored close to where I work. Thought how futuristic they looked when they first came out. Such a contrast to the staid P5 - which I also like for different reasons.

@@FoogouFilms I actually like the P5 also. Looks very sleek and is probably fast with that V8. They could have done better with the P6, looks-wise. Wonder why it never came with a V6.

I know he was popular in Howard's Way, which I haven't seen, but Maurice Colbourne was in a mid 70s TV show from The Beeb called Gangsters, which I didn't know about until I recently came across it on TH-cam by accident while I was at home with COVID. It dragged in some places, but it was thrilling in others. Very interesting show with an unusual catchy soundtrack. There were two series, but TH-cam had only the first one.

Yeah, I watched Gangsters when it first came out. It was of particular interest to have such an action series based in Birmingham, seeing as that was in the region I grew up. I'll look into seeing if there's a DVD of the second series, as that could be a good follow on from Strangers when series 5 completes.

@FoogouFilms the second series of Gangsters is just too weird. I've never met anybody who liked it. Let's put it this way, it's a bit different from the first series.😮.

The first few minutes with the shootout -- there's a clip of that on TH-cam somewhere. Coming into this episode, not having seen it before, I kept thinking that particular scene took place somewhere in the middle of the episode, not at the very beginning!

The third series has gone a bit gritty, hasnt it? There seems to be a lot more depth to the plot/storyline etc. That said, it's beginning to remind me of some of The Sweeney episodes, especially when that transport cafe was used in the beginning. Also, the previous episode, with the stolen money and computers, reminded me of the Sweeney episode, 'Tomorrow's Man', with John Hurt. That episode, in itself, was a break from the traditional Sweeney type script (blags with shooters/ vans full of heavy crims). Even the change of theme music brings the series a bit more sophistication. Really enjoying these uploads, though. Cheers.

You're right in saying this series is much grittier, with comparisons to The Sweeney, though with added touches of humour. I actually haven't watched The Sweeney for some years, so really should watch again - it was a staple of my teenage veiwing while pretending to do homework!

This episode 3 and 4 were joined together it name Strangers the movie 1980 the wasn't any open titles credits rolling. No adverts all way the through to episode 4 coming to the shootout on the hospital ward you see Bullman washing hands his bleeper sounds to alert trouble in this version you see Bullman grabbed his bag and towel then throw his towel down to the floor and bags while running to ward. Plus near the ending where the camera gives an ariel view, where the arrests were made, the police car left the scene. You see WDC Vanessa Bennett and DS Derek Willis walking towards the Rolls Royce then you see and hear Tom mother talk to DCI Bullman on the estate the camera switches to the back of DCI Bullman and Tom's mother and children infront walking on the top level floor of maisonette flats estate, then DCI Bullman look down to see children sitting on the brown Rover car then he says to children get off of that bleeding car the camera switches to them walking infront of the walking then Tom's mother continues to walking to her flat to recover Tom's items evidence to give back to DCI Bullman. Then you see Bullman look across open view on the maisonette estate distraught upset from there music comes on the switches back the scene at the hospital ward where you see Bullman drops the towels from around his neck and his bag that carries the pump action shot gun running towards the ward where DS Wills is the picture freezes the camera still zoom in slowly on DCI Bullman face while the end credits titles are rolling. I tried every to look for this unedited version of this was on TH-cam 10 years ago. The old you tube without the icons popping towards end this was alot better back then compared to now with icons popping right towards the end credits please let me know for some feedback if any remembers watching this unedited uncut version without adverts and without end of part one, Part Two, End of Part Two, Part Three not appearing on the screen.
