Thanks a lot for this video. I will go to Trier tomorrow with my wife and your recommendations are much appriciated. Best regards from Germany to Seattle... go Seahawks!😊
As a local, I have this fun fact. I quote: "What only a few people know: The city of Trier is in possession of two "master relics", the so-called "Holy Robe" of Jesus of Nazareth, which was allegedly brought to Trier by Empress Helena, and the "Holy Underpants" of the philosopher Karl Marx, which came from the estate of his long-time housekeeper Helene Demuth. The more important of the two relics is undoubtedly the "Holy Underpants", which were exhibited publicly for the first time in 1996. The authenticity of the "Holy Underpants" - in contrast to the "Holy Skirt" - has not yet been questioned by any renowned art historian in the world."
@@travelingexpats Yeah, you will be surprised how wide the view goes to both sides in direction Luxembourg and to direction Schweich. The same a little bit higher at the other side of the River Mosel where the Mariensäule Statue stands in a quiet forest. If you are there in the Autumn, you can also collect the eatable little Marones called "Kesten" ...only to cook them or fry them in a pan. ☺️
I have never visited Trier, but because of your well-put-together video, I am now making plans to take my family. Thanks for sharing this awesome history, I will have to say the best burger I ever had in Germany was in Garmisch a few years back, but I will certainly try the burger that you shared. Thank You for posting this well-done video. :)!!
@@MagnificentGermanywithDarion You must visit Trier and the Mosel Region- an absolutely fantastic part of Germany 🇩🇪! There are so many beautiful wine villages and vineyards, great food and places for hiking. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@@travelingexpats I will certainly place Trier in the "Must See" category. I can't wait to see the beautiful villages and everything that goes with them. I also love to hike, especially on the trails in Germany. Have a great day in beautiful Germany!!
A bunch of thanks for this video! It made me laugh and cry at the same time. Why? Okay.... this might work out as a wall of text and I want to apologize for it beforehand :) I am a 63 years old German (f), who was born and raised in Trier. I unfortunately had to leave at the age of 25, because at that time there were not much offers for work (due to the boomer generation.. we had more young people looking for jobs than available jobs). I got an offer in the South West of Germany, so I left my hometown and sadly never made it back to Trier, due to the wise words of John Lennon "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans". That said, it may be understandable that my heart is still closely connected with Trier, and I always have had homesick moments since the time I left. Moreover your appearance really reminds me of my Daddy, one could easily think you're a younger brother :) You had only one day to explore Trier, and wow....... you did an awesome job. I know there is much more to see, but you managed to not only visit the monst impressing locations but also were well informed about the history behind them and shared those! And I agree, Trier might be one of the most underrated German cities. For the lovers of Roman history it is a MUST, moreover the landscapes around the city are wonderful and maybe the river Mosel is the most underrated river of Germany. (At least in my homesick mind! 😉) Though you didn't have much time to spend in Trier, your viewers never get the impression that you were in a hurry, and the choice of tunes, your editing and camera work is adorable. Can you imagine how it felt when we visited the Amphitheater at 4th grade and our teacher led us down into those catacombes (they didn't have those sounds and light effects there at that time, but some bones and skulls and we were all thrilled to death, haha!) Okay before this wall of text turns into a monument of text, let me just say thank you again. I wished more of the thousands of trourists would be like you: Interested in getting informations about what you see instead of simply calling "oh this is awesome", and heading to the next sightseeing point. And sharing the information like you do. Because all touristy towns have inhabitants who love to see their hometowns "respected" instead of used only as sort of a Disneyland for some instagram pics. Lots of love, Andrea (sorry I am sure I made some English mistakes, I did my best though)

They say it's the oldest, but I just checked for Augusta Treverorum and for Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensis, so, Cologne. Cologne was founded 20/19 bce, Trier was founded 18/17 bce, which makes Cologne a year or two older.
@@Kivas_Fajo That’s interesting. I’ve never heard Cologne mentioned as the oldest city in Germany. Either way, they are both very old and great places to visit. Thanks for watching and commenting!
True. However, frankly, Cologne was badly destroyed during WW2, and compared to Trier, there is barely anything Roman left, nor any historic buildings - besides the magnificent Cologne Cathedral, of course. Overall, I find Cologne almost ugly now (again, besides the Cathedral and a piece of Roman Wall).
