I live in Nelson and it’s the only home I remember .To me whitewater is nature’s paradise, in the winter and the summer when you can hike up the mountains and if your lucky, see the staff building and repairing the wire-towers
Yes you would move there after a pow day. I did. In 1993. Life changer. Glory area was OB with truck drops. I hope you make it back there this winter and get into the slackcountry. It is so good. Would love to see it thru your eyes. Shred on bud.
I was there bout 2007 till 2010 ish used to be $425 for season ticket early bird , was epic ,especially with a early day split board and learning myself from scratch to ride , best day was 4 x backside drops to road and hitch back , more descent than cat ski operation hahha so much powder, used to be 15m average snow fall.
Couldn't agree more! It's a tree-skier's paradise. I spent 2 days there last season and wish I could have spent more. I just spun continuous laps through the trees off glory ridge lift, all day, and never took an identical run. The vertical is perfect too! It alternates between gnarly steep that gets the blood pumping, then leading to a mild rise to bleed off crazy speed, then off you go again. It's the most perfect, epic tree-skiing destination I have ever been to. I will definitely return!
Adam! It sounds like we had an identical experience LOL. You are so right, it's the perfect amount of vertical. Keeps you at the ideal pace all day long.
Think ya nailed it bud! It's pretty sick here, Raven chair has also opened some equally sick terrain, and the touring access to white/black queen, 5 mile, and scobs is just ridiculously easy now with the new lift
After watching that I'm intrigued. My intermediate brother and I (more advanced) usually do an annual ski trip to Revelstoke, me skiing Greely Bowl or the Ripper chair trees while he skis the groomers, but these trees at Whitewater look awesome... Revy looks way bigger but with only a few lifts so you're doing long traverses all the time, while it looks like Whitewater may be smaller but you get access to tons of tree skiing from just a pair of lifts.
It would totally be worth trying this season, especially if you enjoy the ripper/greely trees. The only big difference is that the chairs at Whitewater are not high-speed, they are all fixed chairs. You'll get less laps in especially if you love bombing groomers. But, if you're skiing off-piste and trees hard, the extra time to catch your breath is a blessing. I was exhausted after a day lapping Whitewater.
I was there a few years ago during a pow day. Holy crap. 5ft high moguls disappeared. Green runs were empty because the pitch of the slope wasn't enough to get any speed lol. Glory ridge was amazing. I did get a little motion sickness from the old chair lol. Looking forward to another trip there.
good vibes at Whitewater Resort. We got lucky last season with a snow dump that we had to extend our stay. Totally agree that the trees are spaced out far enough to get amazing lines in the deep. I like these resort reviews as the snow is just starting to trickle down in the mountains.
Damn this video took me back, spent a year abroad (European) a few years back during 11th grade. The whole community is just amazing. Glad you enjoyed Whitewater. It is truly a lovely place. During that winter I went up around 50 days and sure after a while you know the resort by heart but there is always plenty to do from the powder days, where it can actually get quite crowded, to finding some powder stashes in the trees or even hitting some groomers on some sunny days. But during those sunny days the resort will be super empty. A few friends of mine and I did our avalanche safety course during that winter and did some small tours with some Canadian friends. With the opening of the new chair a far bigger area is way more accessible for ski touring. You should definitely go back during a powder day or later in the season for some sweet touring if you get the chance.
Glad you got to experience our little piece of paradise here in the West Kootenays. Living in Castlegar half way between Whitewater and Red Mountain means I can't wait for winter. Hopefully the next time you come will be during a 20 plus cm dump. Odds are pretty good.
Hey man, I just moved to the area and was curious on what mountain you'd buy a season pass for? Or do you just buy single day tickets to whatever mountain is best that day? I'm currently in Nelson, but considering Rossland for the winter
Our ski trips out West usually consist of 2 days at Fernie, 2 days at Whitewater and 3 days at Red. Or some variation of these. It all depends where the snow fell last. Best ski trips ever. I'm surprised you don't have a review of Fernie. It's another powder heaven with amazing trees. That is if you like skiing trees!! lol
There isn’t a better mountain for side country/back country in North America. There are endless lines from the top of the chair lifts within a 1 hour skin. Can’t wait to go back this year and ski Ymir again! Let me know when you are back up there and I would love to tag along!
Cold smoke skiing! Skied a 35cm day with 35cm ski penetration. If you know, you know! Look back at your track, hard to tell where you just skied! Cold smoke! As dry as it gets!
I'll have to ski there with my cameras this year. Last time I visited was 4 years ago and I remember having an insane Pow day and ripping Gem Lake trees all day.
2 MILLION VIEWS Congrats man! + You took the feedback I gave. Shorts are a great way to get more views and subscribers! Espessialy in the ski season! Super excited for the skiing content

Such a magical place. Would love to explore the WH20 slack! I imagine it is out of this world.

Revy is much bigger and great if you are into cat tracks. If you prefer trees go to whitewater :)
Well damn what a sell! Guess I'm moving to Nelson to go rip some freakin trees and good vibes!! Thanks for the video - actually really helpful!
Moving to Nelson... I'm always thinking about that too

So Jealous!!! Pow on glory ridge would be incredibly fun.
Nailed the vibe. Well done!
Glad you felt like it matched up to your experience. Such a wonderful ski area!

Nothing beats 'getting snowed in' and having to tell work that you won't be able to make it back from your ski vacation because of weather hahaha

What a sick spot to call home-base. Do you get passes for both hills are just buy day tickets when the snow is good?
Yeah, both hills sell a local's only pass so I get the best of both. I usually get the larger pass at Red but a 5 day pass for WW@@riseandalpine
Hey man, I just moved to the area and was curious on what mountain you'd buy a season pass for? Or do you just buy single day tickets to whatever mountain is best that day?
I'm currently in Nelson, but considering Rossland for the winter
whitewater does open up a small terrain park with a few rails and jumps on upper concentrator or lower sluice box once they get like a 220 base
I live in Nelson and they normally put a terrain park later today I was up there and they had a park
Right on!
Love that place. Had a season pass for my first winter in BC (snowboarding) 20+ yrs ago. Miss that snow❄
What a wicked place to have a season pass at. I love WW
Lol you’re a beauty thanks for the vids. Checked out your red mountain and whitewater reviews as I’m headed out to those resorts in Feb!
Yooo! So stoked for you, Sounds like an epic trip!
Glory Ridge chairlift was chair 5 at Vail Colorado in the back bowls.
No way! Whitewater just loves stealing chairs!
Great edit Brother ! Your welcome here any time
Hit me up when you come back and we’ll show you all the lines in the bowl 👊🏽
Thanks Jason! Would absolutely love to chase a WH20 local around.
You gotta get us a big powder day video at Whitewater this season!
YES PLEASE!
Unreal vid keep em coming
Thanks!

Sounds like you've got the ski trip flow dialed. I'd love to try Fernie this year!
Could you do Red mountain next?
Next Monday!

Would love for a partner to join me up Ymir!
@@riseandalpineJust let me know when you plan on heading up again! I will be up in Nelson quite a bit late Feb and March
I sent in an application to this resort praying to get a gig there so I can board there all season 🙏
That would be amazing. Im rooting for ya 🤟
@@riseandalpine thanks brother 🫡
Great powder and terrain. Did you try TerraRadda. A run with multiple smaller cliffs after a chute. Beautiful
I'm not sure if I did. Sounds awesome! Where about's is it on the hill?
@@riseandalpine on the right side of the steep part of the blast.
Great review. Keep it up.
Glad you're liking them! Have you ever been to Whitewater?
No never been there. I have a wife at home !!!! She does not ski ????@@riseandalpine
I’m a skier and my family is moving to Nelson so you betcha we’re going a shit ton!
Such an awesome spot to move!!!
Love your review. You didn't ski there on a pow day. Get there early cause every pow hound in Nelson gonna wanna shred those trees
I imagine almost everyone living in Nelson has mad pow disease
could you do a review on sun peaks??
Sun Peaks is a wonderful hill. I'll have to head there with my cameras this winter.
Shames Mt..would be great
I'd love to do a rip out to Terrace and try Shames! How is it?
Have you been to Lake louis, Sunshine Village or Marmot? Id like to see your adventures there.
I've never been but they are high on my bucket list. I'll 100% try and get there this winter!
Cold smoke skiing! Skied a 35cm day with 35cm ski penetration. If you know, you know! Look back at your track, hard to tell where you just skied! Cold smoke! As dry as it gets!
That sounds like the dream day. You're making me jealous...
This guy is my mountain research
Glad I can help!
sick video but like running into random cliffs does happen alot usually its totally fine because u just land in 4 ft of pow but still can surprise u
4ft of POW of cliffs sounds super fun! I guess I never stumbled upon too many big cliffs.
So, would you recommend Whitewater to someone who enjoys tree skiing?
I agree, Red Mountain or Revelstoke would be better
Honestly, I don't really recall many trees at all. Probably best to look elsewhere.
Better off going to whistler. There's no stoke at Whitewater.
Big White Review Please
I'll have to ski there with my cameras this year. Last time I visited was 4 years ago and I remember having an insane Pow day and ripping Gem Lake trees all day.
@@riseandalpine Thank You For The Response . Please let me know if April is a Good Snow Month for Big White Resort ? Or Better in March ? Thanks
lets see manning!
Manning is my home hill. 100% going to film a rip there this season!
🎉wahoo aviation humour !
Must have heard that from you or super-Dave?
Whitewater and Grand Targhee: Two best mountains in North America
I have to check out Targhee!
