Looks like you really took this bike to its limits on the downhill trail you did... definitely needs a different fork for that type of trail and riding. 👍👍
Thanks for the video! Two questions if you have a minute. One: Did/Can you weigh the stock fork? Two: Do you have a list of the components you upgraded? I’m particularly interested if you made any changes to the headset and what stem you used. Thanks!
For sure! I weighed it before and I think it was around 6lbs but I'll do a check to make sure I am remembering correctly. The headset I have not changed and stem is stock as well. I put on RaceFace 20mm rise bars amzn.to/3AkfIRw ... these I had laying around. I also bought Rockshox 35 Gold Air Forks EMTB certified amzn.to/3WF3g6q I was able to get a better deal on these as a takeoff someone was selling on Ebay and basically sold the Ramblas stock forks for the same price... so almost a free upgrade! I also added my own grips and pedals. I love these and put them both on every bike. Grips amzn.to/4fz589r Pedals amzn.to/3X07Ltm That's it!
They're honestly pretty comparable! Both proprietary motors so you need to go to one of their shops or affiliates to service if necessary. In this regard Specialized probably has more support stations... but IMO Aventon has much better customer service... they're a smaller brand and really put the customer first and are great people to work with. I think the fork on the Ramblas is better than the Suntour on the Turbo Tero but they're both coil sprung forks and have thru axels so pretty comparable. The Ramblas beats the Tero in two spots though, already has a dropper post (maybe around 180-200usd value) and it has a higher battery (708wh vs 530wh) and it has a stronger motor (100nm torque vs 50nm torque). $2200 is a good deal for the Tero though! I'd say that makes them pretty comparable. One big drawback on the Tero though is the straight head tube... if you're ever going to upgrade the fork you probably won't have any options... I'm honestly not sure why they would put a straight headtube on unless they're thinking no one will try upgrading the bike. Just my thoughts and opinions though so take with a grain of salt! Cheers!
The biggest issue for me on this ebike, is the motor. I bought a Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro with a Bosch Gen 4, for 3500AUD, which is 2300USD. If I have an issue on my Bosch, almost any bike shop in the country can service it, or get the motor replaced, because Bosch has a massive dealer/service network. With Aventon, what do you do? You have to take it back to one of their dealerships of which there aren’t many. Being that its a brand new bike, are their Aventon certified techs to work on this new motor on the spot? Is there enough stock to repair, replace, or service it? Will they just replace the motor if they need to? There’s compromises that you make with a Bosch motor. But that service network is a massive feature. I do however like the idea of this bike. I’m happy to see Aventon making “real” eMTBs with quality components. I hope they succeed, because competition is good for us all. Edit after finishing the video. Component wise, this is actually a great deal. I agree with everything you’ve said. It’s a great starting point to get to where you want. You could upgrade the groupset if you needed, put a better fork up front, or just use it as is on more chill trails. It’s got good bones. I appreciate you making this video. By the way, have you compared the motor to a Bosch Gen 4? Do you think their specs are accurate, and it feels like it has more torque?
Nice! I've seen a lot of people requesting I look at Cube bikes or ask questions about them.. They seem like very good value imo. Very well thought out comment by the way... I really appreciate it! Aventon has a decent dealer network and supported shop network around the US, and it is growing... but it is definitely a worthwhile consideration compared to a Bosch motor. FWIW here, Aventon has very good customer service and they work with customers to make things right from what I've read and experienced. I am not sure Aventon will dive deeper into the real MTB category, but I think this is a cool option for people who don't want to replace their MTB with an EMTB but do want to commute on a singletrack capable bike, its a cool idea and a niche worth exploring because they're putting better components on this style and price of bike than specialized or bigger brands are doing. The 160mm air fork I put on here makes this a pretty fun bike... now a 66 degree HT angle and more fork support... I can take it down gnarly trails... and it is pretty exciting compared to riding them on my enduro haha! A nice change of pace that rattles my bones a bit... or a lot. I haven't done any real testing but I'd say the specs feel pretty accurate to me. Thanks for watching and having a discussion!
@@sasquatchmtb Glad to hear their customer service is good. That can make or break a company. Especially when introducing new product lines. lol hey man this comments feels pretty snarky. I’ve been out on about a dozen rides with no issue. I’ve also had NX on my spire for a few years. They’re heavy and the clutch is not great… but durability is alright. I’m pretty thoughtful about not shifting under load with an e-bike though fwiw.
@@sasquatchmtbYeah it’ll be fine. You learn very quickly to never shift under load on an ebike . With my Cube Reaction Hybrid with the Bosch Gen 4 motor, there’s a possible peak of 680w. You shift during a peak and you’re gonna feel it. Any load is bad though. I shift like a manual car
@@MarioGoatse Yeah, I've been on EMTB's before and I'm super cautious... I'm cautious on my enduro as well which I think has helped me get a lot more mileage out of my NX on that bike... To be fair to drifter dogs though... NX groupset is far from perfect and the clutch kinda sucks haha! Clutch is good enough to keep the chain on at least, but any NX equipped bike will have chain slap.
It is what it is really… given the prices of most EMTBs this is definitely in the “budget” category. All mountain bikers are on budgets. They just have a massive portion allocated to bikes 😅 Really though, this has been on my mind a lot lately … mountain biking is a pretty inaccessible sport
@@sasquatchmtb I’m being harsh, it was okay. I rode a Cannondale Moterra Neo 3 the next day though and it made the Ramblas feel like a kids toy. I know it’s $1200 more but when you’re cashing out this much, might as well go for it. The things I liked least about the Ramblas were the front suspension left a lot to be desired and I was completely underwhelmed by the motor. Despite the 105 nm rating, I felt the Bosch performance was way punchier and didn’t top out nearly as harsh as on the Ramblas which was really off putting.
Like when you hit 20 mph, it feels like you hit a wall and there’s too much motor resistance to feel like your pedaling will keep gaining speed. The motor is also loud as shit compared to the Bosch.
@@blakelocati Yeah its a tough comparison considering the Moterra is on sale too and originally is more than double the cost of the Ramblas. The Ramblas is really just dipping its toes in singletrack in my opinion. If you're really looking for the best enduro style EMTB experience it won't be a good fit. DId you buy the Moterra Neo 3? That's a pretty sick deal for $4k!
its an awesome trail/do anything bike. more power than is needed.
Definitely more than enough power for what I need, yeah.

Yeah... the upgrade to a 160mm travel Rockshox 35 Gold was necessary... although most of my favorite trails are still pretty rowdy on a hardtail haha!

I lower rear tire pressure and get of seat when chunky. Installing Fox 36 and PNW suspension seat post for my 67 year old gym rat body!
Great upgrades! I want to get this setup tubeless to drop the tire pressure more.
I wonder how this compares to the Specialized Turbo Tero , they are selling for 2200 now
