I miss this woman dearly she is my Godmother I am her namesake "Pi'ilani". My son did comment a year ago. My father Lloyd Grace played music with her way before I was born. He is the drummer on this album and her 2nd album. I have all their original albums. But I miss her and my Father dearly. My Father passed in 1999 and Loyal performed this song at his funeral. I learned alot of my singing abilities from just listening to this lovely woman RIP my mama and my Daddy!!!
Thank you for sharing I first heard Ms LOyal Garner singing this song and I fell in love with Aunty Loyal's voice.I am Mexican decent and I just love good Hawaiian music.
I was there, class of '82. So crazy emotional for a group of high schoolers. Ram's were undefeated that season! I remember it as Loretta Ables(who was Coco von Rohr's sister)singing this song at an assembly at Radford in coach V's honor. Everyone, absolutely everyone was in tears.
still have tears in my eyes no matter how old this song will get it always has meaning to it. thank you Loyal Gardner for great music in Hawaii. I can still here you singing the Jingle for Cutter Ford Aiea. Every time i pass there i see you and hear you singing.
Auntie Loyal. If you know, you know. What an important person/musician in the Hawai'i music scene. I remember watching her at the Canoe House at the Ilikai.... RIP.
I remember watching and listening to Auntie Loyal performing this at the Prep Bowl between Saint Louis and Radford. It was so silent and tearful in the stands, even at that young age, many of my friends and I knew the significance of the song.
I just heard Loyal sing " how great thou art" just a few days ago it was my first ever knowing this golden voiced angel and now learned that she has died many years ago and is truly an angel now, oh how Lucky my God is to be able to hear her sing everyday. I wish I d been so lucky.
this song makes me think of my papa I miss him so dearly, he help raise me into the person I am now. RIP PAPA I love this woman dearly and I miss her singing she was a kind hearted lady bless your soul loyal garner.
My dad had me listen to aunty Loyal sing this song. When he passed 5 years ago I played it for him. It hits home cuz my dad was leagally blind,, we have RP a genetic eye disorder that causes you tunnel vision and deteriation of your sight. when we think of him I know he can see without any complications. I love this song.
Love her musics. Growing up here on Kaua'i always ask my parents, aunty's and uncle's if I could go and watch her, and the answer was no you to young to go to the bar, where she was performing. When I was old enough was able to watch her perform.
I think it was Coach Velasco. If I remember correctly, he passed away right before the Prep Bowl game between Saint Louis and Radford. Loyal performed this song at halftime. It rained the entire game, but stopped just long enough for her to sing this song.
charlene, Loyal was a dear family friend. My brother played percussion/congos for her. i can still hear her singing in his backyard for mama's 80th birthday, listening to the sounds of the water trickling in the lo'i. Loyal is singing with the angels . . .
This is my Mom's Godmother, she is her name sake "Pi'ilani".. My Papa played with her when she used to play at the old canoe house, and did her 1st 2 recordings.. They were a group when my Mom was born in 1976. My Mom as a baby sat on her piano when she did commercials for Cutter Ford... I know this because my Mom tells me all the stories about her and my Papa. He passed away in 99' and she sang this song at his funeral, this was my Papa's favorite song from that album.
One of my favorites when I was a little girl...and still brings tears to my eyes.
I heard this song along time ago when I was little and it still brings back so many good memories. What a beautiful voice. And a super sweet song.
