    • @bigfootronin5210
      @bigfootronin5210 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +pirotess2 I think they are called swords because they do resemble swords with no guard and an oversized pummel (most likely used to shift the balance of the "swords" closer to the end and probably makes them easier to control)

    • @pirotess2
      @pirotess2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are many similiar weapon in Asian, exsample, Testusbo of Japan, it has pummel and no guard, but was never be called sword, instead it is called "iron staff" or truncheon / club in English term.

    • @adamsornsin1713

    If anyone is wondering how sticks don't fall:
    1. That ball on one end is a counter-weight.
    2. When he rolls the stick. The spinning creates enough torque that forces the stick to hold it's position. The same force makes moving bicicle easier to balace than when staying still on one spot.

      Ok, I admit that might be true, but have you ever seen true sword fights on the streets these days? ´Cause I definitely haven´t. So here´s the perfect tip for going onto "the battlefield": Buy yourself a weapon that ain´t out of real use for about a century, and don´t mess with artists because they aren´t warriors. Or can you really imagine ANY sword fighter surviving for more than a few seconds on, for example, any battlefield within syria right now?

    • @solokom
      @solokom 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you totally said it right, why don`t you get it? these swords can come into CONTACT with humans WITHOUT killing them. That`s why they are called CONTACT swords. to differ them from normal swords, with which contact might kill you.

      Sword skills are not always have to do with fighting. It's simply a skill of using sword to achieve something, which in this case probably art and entertainment...or maybe even body conditioning. The view that swords skills being only for fighting is a stereotyping based on majority of modern culture presentations of swords.

    • @Artrysa

    • @andrewlehmer7663
      @andrewlehmer7663 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      so...a staff?

    • @MoonlightNeo
      @MoonlightNeo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're called contact swords because the entirety of the object besides the part you actively hold and juggle can be set ablaze, whereas a contact staff has a singular wick at the very end, not consisting of a majority of its length. It's really that simple, get over it already.

    • @Velacroix
      @Velacroix 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't care who coined the term or why, but an object has a variety of uses or characteristics attached to a convenient label for identification. Confusing porcelain with mercury or tic tacs with tetrapods could be troubling, right? A sword has an old and specific definition deriving from the material, length, origin, shape, and purpose that most educated people are familiar with. The performance was pretty cool and inspiring, but there were no swords present in this video. It's really that simple, get over it already.

      Tbh its not swords, you cannot do it with sword blades, not sword skills, its more of a dance bc of the graceful nature, glass balls is the only thing allowing him to do it, and lastly its a great video for a graceful staff spinning but the title has sword skills so i understand the negativity. If you understand clearly its like a lie with the title or in other words click bait

I understand every one has their opinions but it all comes off as rude at this point... I mean, I'd like to see every one just enjoy the idea of what he's doing. especially to those of us who have never seen some thing like this, it's sort of magical.. basically, kindness prevails in this instance... 💕

      PS- Alice InCrazyLand does have a point though, bunch of idiots getting annoyed at their own lack of intelligence. That IS the proper name "Contact Sword" for fire spinners/jugglers based off the glass balls used in "contact juggling". Admittedly I came here expecting real swords too but at least I know it was my own misinterpretation, and it's still mesmerizing.

    • @TMFlesh
      @TMFlesh 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol no, this is not the same as sword fighting at all, this is juggling. Don't get me wrong, he's real good at juggling but it's not sword fighting. This does not help at all with controlling the tip of a blade for a stab or the angle of a blade for a cut, it teaches you nothing about blocking or parrying, and if you tried anything remotely similar to what he is doing in a sword fight you would get yourself killed. Sure you might use something somewhat similar to a contact sword in training but you would never be doing anything close to the movements he is.

      And well you are the arrogant idiot because you dont even know a little bit about the art of sword fighting and he never said anything about him (The guy in the video) being bad at that what hes doing there he only said whats true and that is that juggling never helps you in a sword fight because that are two different things

      I know this is an old comment but if you're still interested in learning flow I'd suggest starting with contact staff then move to contact sword. Contact staff and sword are very simliar but with contact staff, you often have more room to make mistakes and there are many more tutorials. Once your good at contact staff you just transition the same skills over to sword but learn to do them on a smaller surface. This sword and my recommended contact staff are from Wizards of Flow. The practice contact staves are around $150 but a quality staff goes a long way in teaching you and it's full carbon fiber so you can do acrostaff techniques as well. Which is basically flipping on the staff or putting your full body weight on it.

    Look to all of you that wish to talk shit on him about its not a sword and so on please understand the idea behind it first. It is a form of sword with a extended handle and a weighted ball on the end for balance and manipulation. Also note that its made for show not to sword fight with or anything of that nature. The Word "Contact" in "Contact Sword" stands for the idea of the sword moving around your body making "Contact" with different parts of the body. Learn the meaning behind everything before you talk shit. Otherwise you are making your selfs look like the idiots not him. Would love to see any of you do what he does in this video.

      +Michael Lineberry I know this. I understand this. But even still, it's not a sword. When people come expecting something with a sword, they expect a sword. Not a baton. Not a cane. Not staves or poles or anything like that. He has good skill. But this title mentions swords and he did not deliver. Thus, he has failed our expectations in that regard. I don't know how to do anything close to this (in case you intend to tell me not to talk shit if I can't do it), but he is a misleading little shit.

      2:20 looks amazing.
      Camera movement is required to record spectacular scenes.... Or do you REALLY prefer boring tripod scenes?

      doublea422 make it yourself. You need a wooden staff, tennis racket grip and a weight for one side. If you wanna make a fire one, maybe use some metal coating for the stick and put a kevlar rope around it

    • @doublea422
      @doublea422 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't plan on doing stuff with fire, but this is a good idea. I'm thinking of just starting out with a staff too.

    Whether you think they should be or not, these props are called contact swords. Neither the performer nor the video maker came up with that name, it's an industry standard.
    I'm stunned by his level of control over both swords in contact at the same time, and by his continuous matrix (which I have yet to fully master with swords). David Barron has seriously earned his title as the Wizard of Flow.

      sword : sharp metal object used to rend flesh
      staff : a stick
      doesn't matter how you slice it those are not swords and that's an erifutible fact

    • @jpate84
      @jpate84 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      because of the design. You have the basic "sword" parts and balance; hilt, pommel, and blade. Although in this there's no real blade, unless you are referring to the part that's lit on fire.

      if the world ends after everyone uses up the surplus of ammunition a sword will be a good weapon to have and I do believe that certain militias still carry short swords as a fail safe

      Why wouldn't people or small militia just make their own bullets? Swords will never be used in large scale warfare until gundams are invented. :/

      @Kuma Films - Hes right you know. Despite what these are called, they are not swords. Nor are they training swords which are called "Contact Swords". Somewhere down the line someone put a pomel on a stick and called it a sword. Though these things are only known as contact swords, they are inherently not, and calling them that is indeed misleading.
      Its kind of like saying "How to fry up some mountain chicken!" And then the video is of cooking a frog. (Google it)
      It would be nice if someone renamed these. There fun Skill/Trick toys, but they're not gonna be taken seriously as long as they're name is so misleading.
