  • The Escambray Mountain Range is the second biggest mountain range in Cuba and is a popular attraction for hiking enthusiasts. There are a number of hiking and trekking trails throughout the range and the opportunity for species spotting is amazing. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the waterfalls, canyons and caves as you become one with nature in Cuba. The Escambray Mountain Range is known for its exceptional natural beauty but combined with its role in the battles of Cuba - these beautiful peaks have an incredible story and an unimaginable historical importance.
The Escambray Mountain Range can be divided into two reserves. The Agabama River acts as a dividing point for the Western part of the range - known as the Guamuhaya Mountains and the eastern range which is known as the Sierra de Sancti Spiritus.
Having been declared a UNESCO Heritage Site the Escambray Mountain Range is known for the natural beauty that captivates visitors from all over the world, but the significance of the mountain range in the country’s history cannot be forgotten. These mountains served as the stage and battlefield for the War against the Bandits between 1960 and 1962 and were also the planned refuge during the Bay of Pigs Invasion but were never introduced for use as such.
