Those belstaff boots are going for $98 CAD right now. I think once people found out the welt is fake, and the midsole is cardboard, they put all the boots on clearance

There's a certain aesthetic Vietnam era jungle boots have. The vibram sole ones look the best to me, followed by rare ripple sole ones. I know the panama sole performs the best for its intended job, but hear they're not pleasant to walk on anything but mud. Beats using McNamaras in the jungle however! Love those boots too, but my all time favorite are WWII jump boots. If only companies did more faithful reproductions with all the accurate bits reenactors or history lovers enjoy.

You can re-sole the Belstaffs, and as long as the canvas holds up (and it can be patched) you can wear 'em for a long time.

The issue of split annoyed me for a long time, I have also went few pairs jungle boots with cracks, the main reason that believed to be blame for that is the composition of the soles.A veteran told me the companies which made these boots added some materials to the soles which played a role in mold prevention ,but those materials will make the soles dry out quickly. Some of my vibram jungle boot were more flexible than my other same period boots but only them developed cracks.
The brand of the original jungle boot that showed on your video is BATA and they always crack because the pattern is shallower than other company”s but CIC or RO SEARCH can also develop this problem ,so I’m always always brought them less than 80 dollars.

      I’ve heard this as well.
I’ve had 3 Batas, 1 CIC, and 1 RoSearch that all cracked.
I’ve never cracked a Panama sole before though, so Im wondering if tread design really did make a big difference
I just wish the modern companies that make military boot contracts for the govt would do a vibrem version.
Like Altima or McRae, they already make Jungle boots, just pull an old Vibrem mold and make a “Heritage” repro boot. I bet they could market the crap out of that and sell a lot of them.
I actually started looking for rubber sole fabrication companies that could make glue on replacement soles with the old Vietnam Vibrem pattern. It can be done they say, I just don’t have the $10k to have the molds made.

@@larosehatcompany2433 Panama sole can also develop cracks, i have saw some photos of cracked panama sole before,it just not as common as vibram sole, they possibly change the composition of the rubber and the pattern also helps to prevent that.

@@larosehatcompany2433 Just as the answer you received from the companies that was asked to make rubber soles , most of the original companies refused to make vibram soles again because the DMS technique is a way of making massive productions of boots and they cost a lot in making mould. They can't even make the standard quality Panama jungle boot just as they done before, not mentioned correct vibram sole boot.

@@larosehatcompany2433 Hopefully one day the Bata vibram sole and the willys jeep tread sole from the BDU boots will be available as replacements. The original all leather BDU boot is no longer being made by anyone. McRae is the only one that comes close but they make theirs with the panama sole. The panama sole just wears out too quickly even out in the field.
Those two types of boots are the most comfortable hardy footwear I've ever owned.
Except don't jump from the back of a truck with original JB's on. That metal plate hurts.

    • @skywatching9140
      @skywatching9140 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

luckily some companies in China are still making what we called turtle tread leather boots by using DMS technique.Although the quality of the leather they used is a kind of junk, the pattern of the tread is 95 percent correct, it even have a RO SEARCH tag on that sole and they also made zigzag tread boots on the same way.

I have a pair of 1960's Vietnam sole boots issued to me in the 70's, which I still wear in the jungle here in SE Asia. They have not cracked or come unstiched. Original good quality!

I have heard similar experiences from Vets.
I think the guys who got them back in the 60s and 70s and wore them regularly for decades had better luck with the rubber not cracking.
I think the use kept them pliable.
For us folks who buy new old stock 60s vintage originals, I think the rubber got hard from sitting on a shelf for 50 years not getting bent daily.

@@larosehatcompany2433 If it helps, the brand is Genesco and CIC is stamped in an oval on the sole. I later got issued the speed-lace black "hot weather boot" with the Panama tread which also has the steel plate. They are also doing well apart from repairs to the stiches. The main thing I like are the direct molded soles. Modern boots have glued on soles which fall off after few months of the SE Asian heat!

Maybe the vintage vibram sole originals crack because they're old? Some materials don't age as well as others. Just a thought.

a brand called maharishi made a low top version of the jungle boots, and they have a vibram sole. Its definitely not a replica but it would be cool to throw it out there

How soft are the soles? Thinking about getting a pair of McRae jungle boots. I walk on concrete all day for work and want a pair mostly for fashion purposes. I know wedge sole boots are the way to go but I really don't like how they look.

    • @larosehatcompany2433
      @larosehatcompany2433  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I find the SM Wholesale soles to be very nice. I think they are softer than the original rubber but not too soft to wear down super fast. I wear mine every day and I find them to be less of a “hard impact” feeling boot to walk in than my originals and other Panama sole boots. I don’t think they are as soft as wedge soles, but to me the trade off is worth it because I hate the look of wedge soles.

I know that the pike brothers boots can have a problem with the soles splitting off have you had that problem with the SM wholesale pair or are they holding up pretty well?

    Love it!
I had my last pair (84 dated) issued to me in Panama in 87 and i used them as my barracks/post boots so they at first never saw the field. Your right us army issues were meant to last one year before replacing them.
I also snagged a brand new set in a size 10R for a buddy of mine back state side. I ets in 88. My buddy split so I stashed his 10R set in a box in my closet and lugged them around for years. My other original set, i stopped polishing and wore them through two marriages, boating, hunting, fishing, yard work, gardening, drunk concerts, kayaking on rivers, camping, work life and all without socks, i never wore socks in my jungles after i broke them in and yes that funky saran insert actually works. I beat the crap outta them, they were faded, frayed, brown in places and once in awhile in guilt I'd redwing boot oil them which they greedily sucked up.
So from 87 to 2017 ish I finally out grew them??? Sold them on eBay for an astounding $50 to a Vietnam reenactor. As common with those boots my right boots sole plate broke and made a gawd awful clicking noise when you walked hahaha.
Now few years ago i dug up the pair i had stashed and they actually fit, so oiled up,polished up and used in parades with 82nd abn assn James Etherton Detroit and other fun activities. My ladt old school pair.
    Kick ass boots boys 😂
    Cheers from Detroit

I don’t know if they are active Direct Molded or glued on. But just like can be done with originals you could have the tread ground off and new vibrem glued on

      Howdy,
I make hats for a living. I’m wearing one of the hats I made. It’s a pleated cap made using the reversible Mitchell pattern camo that was used on helmet covers during Vietnam and shelter halves during the Korean War.
