Heartbreaking :( I was one of the Bluecoats in the very last season before the place closed for good in 1994. There was talk of it becoming a retirement village but my God it would be huge. The boat-shaped clubhouse was called SS Berengaria and was named after the ship a japanese businessman arrived in England on, who then went on to build the camp which Pontins bought later. So sad to see the place rot like that. Still, my memories of Middleton Tower are full of life and colour and music.
brilliant memories, thanx for posting. had 2 holidays there in the 80s. remember the trampolines and bmx course.indoor bowling. very sad to see it like this. would of taken my kids there if it was still open.
my wife used to go here every year as a child with her dad she loved it and its heart-breaking to see the place in such a condition. she always remembers winning the donkey derby and listening to girls girls girls by sailor at dinner time. good memories.
Yes,heartbreaking to see this.Must be thousands of people with wonderful memories of fabulous care free holidays Still these can never be lost.I also have the same feelings when I think of the wonderful times at Butlins Filey. My God .What has happened to this country?
i will never forget this place . i learnt to swim in that pool in 1974 . had my picture taken with then world snooker champion john spencer and watch my mam and dad dance in the ss berengaria ball-room. i`m choked. what a shame.
Emotional... i still work with Pontins and it sadness me to think this was once a place people saved there money and looked forward to visiting for the BIG holiday... Robert Towell who once was the Ents Manager is still going and managing another Pontins site Great but Sad Footage
Your joking right ? We went in 91 it was a bloody health hazard ,glass in the boat pond ,cold food ,dirt chelet ,Brocken window no racks in the oven the meter Brocken for fuel ,the swimming pool had moss growing in it and the sea so far away you were fit off by the tide getting back horrible place
My folks took me here in the early 70's. Kind of sad to see the place look like this. They have pictures of me standing in front of SS Berengaria and another one next to Thunderbird 3, pity that has gone. As a kid the place was larger than life and I really enjoyed the time we were there.
I came here a couple of times as a kid in the 70's with Grandad, grandma, cousins. It is so strange seeing these. I would imagine the site being a ship (due to SS Berengaria), I had an interest in all things Titanic then and on leaving day would imagine the ship was sinking and we had to abandon; looking at these pics is almost like visiting the wreck. Sad to see the state the old place has been reduced to. Grandparents are long dead, but I can still see them walking there in my mind's eye.
What a shame this site is now gone and new houses are on it as a child me and my family had 3-4 holidays there and i have good memories of this place and the old films to see it. a few years ago i was out that way in my lorry and went out of my way to have a last look befor it was demolished you could just get close enough to see the chimley how sad
Worked here behind the bar in the Ballroom Bar mainly - Summer 1979. Barely recognise most of it - the Farmhouse is recognisable, and the Theatre bar - can't remember what they called the bar with the circular front at the other end - worked in there a bit - and stayed in the S Block chalets - which look pretty much the same. Some good and bad memories for me.
I remember going there in the early early 1990's .. i seem to remember there was an abandoned, part of the camp when it was still open.. I thought it got turned into a prison?
I love it. who sang the song it's way better than the original? It's a real shame they've knocked this place down wish I'd gone in and looked around when I had the chance but never dared go though the fence. Thanks for posting
my mum and dad took us 3 bros away from The Pool for a week in 1955. Really good but our bedroom was next to a booming power station ?Heysham which affected our sleep un peu. Never on the MT brochures - I wonder why?
I worked in the cafes from 1975-1977. Had a great time. Returned to see retirement houses back in 2009. Fond memories. Some good some bad.

I went twice in the eighties with my wife and two young sons. We have some brilliant memories from then and it is very sad to see it like this.
Aww this brings so many memories and I can imagine how it was then 89 and 90 worked there ,,so many memories 😢
You have some excellent shots of this place, most people visited AFTER the SS berengaria had been flattened. Happy days exploring Middleton tower

I went there as an 8 year old in 1973. My Mum won the lovely legs competition!

Think we should protest to Trevor Hemming who i believe still owns the sites along with Blackpool, wallpark... and get something don't about it...
