  • Part 1 of the Ducati 750SSie 2 Valve engine bottom end build, this is the same engine that supplied the heads for the recent series I published.
    The aim was to keep the video focusing on areas I have not covered or discussed during other builds
    The video will cover:
    1. Bearing replacement
    2. Crank and Gearbox installation and set up
    3. Crank cleaning process
    4. Shift drum and selector fork installation
    5. Assembly of the crankcases
    6. Intermediate timing gear install
    7. Starter motor and intermediate starter gear installation
    8. Strainer installation
    9. Indent spring carrier
    Due to the length of the video I have split the content into two videos, the next video will cover the refurbishment of the gear selector fork, strip and inspection of the oil pump before completing the bottom end build.

    After a long absence I bought my self a Cagiva Gran Canyon as a project bike.
    In 98 i bought one brandnew, now a 26 year old one in nice Condition.
    Getting rid of all the crappie plastic and creating a fun bike.
    I love the Ducati 2 Valve Engines.
    You doing a great job with your videos.
    Very helpful and informative, keep on with it. Many thanks and greetings from Germany.

    Thanks for sharing. I have watched you do this so many times and I still don’t understand the crankcase float, preload, etc…. Still love to watch.

      It comes across as confusing when you read the manual, once you do it a few times its relatively straight forward. Thanks for watching 😊

    If possible, and the bearings rollers on the needle rollers are damaged or removable, try removing them to get better purchase on your slide hammer.
    Also, with bearings i cut the outer races on the old bearings to use as a drift for the new ones. Cutting aids it to flex and makes it easy to remove once driven in, this works for many types of bearings including the inner races. I do this for wheel bearings, head stock etc

    Hey Nelly, use xylene if you dont already to break down and aid the sealant removal. Great video and a follower for several years!

    Nellie awesome presentation. As a side note when time allows, any chance of you doing a presentation on special tools etc that you think are essential when working on Ducati's. Again mate well done on this presentation.👍👍👍

    Another great, not too long video!
    Why did you change the oil plugs for the crank?

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To clean the crank out, the engine has had a previous failure and with the balancing work I had carried out I wanted to ensure the oil ways were fully clear.

    Awesome content as always!
    Where do you source the Crankshaft plugs? Im about to do the same thing and havent been able to find them.

      I get them direct from Ducati, the smaller plugs come in packs of ten and the large plug can be ordered separately.

      That might be a pricey belt change, even for a Ducati 🤣

    Hey did you recheck your float on the main when you tapped the micrometer with the breaker bar? It changed a whole point and your reference was no longer zeroed out. Also does this eliminate engine vibration or does it matter that much if you do have out of spec preload?

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, not captured in the video but I check it multiple times before I settle on the adjustment I am going to make to the shims. The preload is an issue if you put too much in as it will overload the bearing and cause excessive wear. If too loose then it will become even more loose as the engine warms up and could lead to failure.
