Im glad I came across this video. Because I'm in a FEH Facebook group where the majority just promotes all their 11 copies of a certain unit to 5 stars before doing the merging and it's a big waste of feathers imo. I prefer going slow and promoting my 4+10 to 5 stars instead of promoting each copy then merging.
Currently, in FEH meta, Merges are incredibly important to not only strengthen your units but to also score well in Arena/AA. Because of this, I would recommend to 4* +10 units who have no good fodder, doesn't score well in Arena, or is not currently affecting the meta. For example, Hana is an amazing unit to 4* +10 since she doesn't have fodder (LnD 2, Obstruct LUL), she doesn't score well in Arena, and she has Armorslayer, which can be usefui in AA. If you want to 5* +10 her, Soleil would be her ultimate replacement since she can score higher than Hana, has a even better stat spread, and is also available in the 4* pool. At the end of the day, NEVER 4* +10 who can score well in the meta or who has amazing fodder. If you do 4* +10 a unit, please don't give them DC or Wrath. Put it on your 5* +10 units or units that you know you are going to be using a ton. Overall, great vid! Patrick Waddingham well I have 8 4*Lukas and quite around 6 Soleil so probably them for now. I've been wasting resources frivolously by always promoting to 5* but now I won't have to 😃.
A 4*+10 Lukas will be great for you. Make sure you find a source for a Slaying Lance+ (or whatever weapon you want) so you an refine it for more def, but that'll be a good unit!

Well, a spare Seth will give him the 3rd level of Fortress Def. QR is always good for defensive units like Lukas and is always a fun* use of 20k feathers -- although QR2 is good enough for now. C skills and seals are always a little more personal so I'll leave that to you.

Once you finish your first team though, you may reach a point where you want to hit higher in Arena. At that point I'd imagine you generally always want to 5*+10 the units you plan to use at that point. Also if you went for a 4*+10 and you suddenly decide you really like them and want to 5*+10.. you've set yourself back 10 copies. (the second point is what stopped me from even trying to 4*+10, because I'm indecisive and I don't really want to waste copies of a unit xD) On a different note, I just finished my second +10, my Watersweep Reinhardt \o My Eirika is at +9 and I just need another copy to finish her off.

I actually do think 4* +10 merging can be really useful, but in practice, when I did it for Hana, I just never ended up using her because she didn't show up at the top of my barracks, (sorted by rarity), so I just never used her...
For me it depends on which end of the pool they are in. 5-4 work on the 5 star. (Or if they are exclusive units like TT rewards/legendary weapon.) 3-4 stars usually 4* +10. Exceptions as you stated are favorites. Also... recording inception bout half way through?!
I normally won't merge unless the units are 5 star unless I really need another unit for Arena Assault. For example I have a Bartre that I use but if I'm out of Hardin counters I'll run my merged Frederick. But normally when given the choice I'll either fodder the unit for skills or feathers.
Foddering the unit is still a great use of a hero. I'm just trying to let ppl know that if you are strapped for feathers for any reason then 4*+10 is a good idea to fill out your roster.
Patrick Waddingham Yeah that is definitely the most effective way to play as I've seen with others who play the game. I more just promote each unit, hence my addiction to feathers, maybe fodder some GHB units for skills for my favourites and try to stay in my Arena tier. Oh and also rage at how unfair some of the games GHB's and BHB's are. Like I mentioned with my Frederick since I'm not promoting him for a while he does have a few merges on him from when I was new at the game. If I were to build 4 stars up I'd generally just make them fill a specific niche.
How to about promoting for 5 stars and four stars is a combination of how much I like the character, abundance, and viability. My adult tiki is my only 5 ★ +10, but I have Reinhardt at like +7, raven at +4, and Cordelia at +1. But I just have a shit ton a boeys and fredericks so they're 4 ★ +10. (Btw highly recommend 5 ★ +10 dragons if you can because those stats are wild.)
Oh, I didn't even see this video when commenting on your other one. 4*+10 is great for people that want to build a lot of units imo as it saves a ton of feathers. A 4*+10 with a 5* weapon at the most will cost you 42,000 feathers if every merge started at only 3*. Whereas a comparable 5*+5 would cost 100,000 more. Hopefully someday IS will let us keep merges when promoting in case you wanted to change your mind about going 5*+10. Luckily I haven't had any regrets thus far. Though at one point I wished my adult Tiki was 5*+10.
As a f2p playing since day 1, with 14 5* +10, more than 300 5*, 52 crowns and 20 thrones, I think I can help with some tips: 1 - build Alphonse, Anna and Sharenna 5* with refine for bonus; 2 - build at least 3 units with 170 bst: as f2p units, the no brainer are Shenna +spd, Gwendy +spd and V! Eliwood (175 bst). Other good options (but you will need A slot 170 bst): Aversa, Camilla, Cherche, Est and Caeda. 3 - Kill 5* for max build. My team 5*+10 can do anything, because the premium slots like VF and DC. 4- to fight for T21 in arena, will you need a bonus with merges: it's a good idea build 4*+10 inside the rotation units, they can fight without problems. 5- promote your more useful units: units like Nowi and Hawkeye are very useful for AR - but no one can beat a M! Corrin +10 with refine for cheerleader! 6- promote anti armor, anti dragon and anti fliers and confer blessing to them: for AA, even with all changes, they are very useful - Merric is a great example, not really great, but very useful against Flying Zura. 7 - Build and promote the units you love: any +10 with the right build can be powerful! 8 - More merges: focus on units with high bst for merges, because you'll need them for Thorr fights. 9- Never promote 4* units +10 with premium slots and/or without the rotation units! My units +10: Cecilia, W! Cecilia, Rein, Gwendy, Sheena, Draug, Effie, Camilla, Aversa, Naesala, Olivia, M! Corrin, Nowi and Hawkeye.
I would like to eventually 5* +10 as many units as I can so I know that in the long term it'll be a waste of resources. I do have all four movement emblems built as well as units for arena assault so I suppose for me there's no need to merge any 4* units but I can certainly see why you may do it now, I remember the (not so) good old days of finishing training tower cavalry/flier quests with three level 1 units! How come you're not a fan of Robin?
Yea, training tower use to be such a slog :D The reason I don't like Robin is pretty unfair, but it's because he was difficult to level due to his lack of damage output against the general training tower population and how much everyone else said he was great when I found him to be difficult :D Logically I know better, but I've never reconciled the thoughts :D
I have a couple of the same 5 Gold Stars that the game keeps telling me that I can't merge. I have no idea why it refuses to merge them, they are the EXACT same character! I even tried to merge a newly promote a new 5 gold star into my level 40 5 Gold star and it STILL refused to merge.
Question: If you have a 5* hero +10 and merge them to a 4* hero till he/she reaches 4*+10 and then merge her/him to a 5*, will he/she take a big stat boosts or it will be like a normal merge? Also a lvl 30 gives more stats when merge to an other than a lvl 1?

I know how much cheaper a 4*+10 is compared to anything you’ll do with a 5*, but I gotta see those golden 5 stars, idk why. Except with Olivia and Bartre for some reason I can stand to look at silver stars. It’s a good thing I enjoy 5*+10 projects I guess.
Oh, yea, I use my 5* a lot more than my 4*+10 even. I just can't pull myself away. Although, when I suddenly remember I have my merges I feel like It's christmas. :D
Are you talking about which set of Assets and Flaws you should keep? I don't have a specific video, and I don't tend to even put into my videos what bane/boon you "should" have since that's not strictly controllable -- but I'm willing to answer any questions about IVs for any hero, even if I don't have a video for that hero.
What m robin is amazing he tanks all colorless and almost all reds well mine does. I remember running the infernal black night tt he was soloing the whole 7 rounds my feelings ia hurt lmfaoo
It's funny, actually. I said that a four-star + 10 is equal to a 5 * + 5, but the text read that I 4 * + 5 is equal to a 5 * So, you know, consistency :)
Questionable advice. I would never merge 5* units unless 1) they have no skills worth inheriting, 2) they are part of your arena core, or 3) you get a better IV and the original has expensive skills inherited.When considering your arena core you want to create 5*+10 units that score well and that you can actually get 11 copies of. You have mostly low scoring merged 5* units yet you made 4*+10 out of the highest scoring units (armors). Makes no sense to me. This game is pretty easy so aside from arena scoring, unmerged 5*s are fine to complete all content.
Thank you for pointing out several things that I gloss over in this video. I intentionally don't talk much about arena scoring in this video because I have another video on my channel that talks about just that topic! I would actually love your critique on it, so I hope you watch it! I hinted at availability briefly in the video, but I should have made it a larger part. I think it is less of an issue with how the summoning pools are now but there is no guarantee they won't become just as fragmented in the future as they were a few months ago. Also, please don't mistake a 10min video for deep knowledge of my play situation for a year and a half! I'm very aware Draug and Gwen are good scoring units and would be well suited as 5* +10 units. But when I first made them I had barely any feathers or orbs to my name! They served me well in the early months of the game and I couldn't think of a better use of those units than to make the bulwark they became when I merged them at 4*.
I can relate to the feather drought early on in the game's life. I regret merging my Marth at 4* since now with his weapon refine I would love to get him to 5*+10 (especially since he can support bonus units in arena for the extra points that will be available after the next update). I still think that if you are going to claim the video is a guide for merging for new players, you need to mention arena scoring and availability (and thus Draug, Gwendolyn, and Sheena being the prime candidates for 5*+10. And I say that as someone who only has dragons at 5*+10! ) :)
Oof on the Marf. I didn't make mine until after the refinement came out. You make a great point concerning omitting the scoring aspects of units and the effects of 4* vs 5*. I was originally writing the notes for the video assuming that the player wouldn't merge the 5* unit they made much, but since I can't dictate who watches the videos leaving that info out was an error on my part. No, the ones you merge together don't need to have to be at any specific level. If you have a lvl40 hero you want to keep and a lvl1 copy of that hero, you can just merge the lvl1 into the lvl40. One thing to note, if you prefer the asset/boon that the lvl1 hero has over the lvl40, you can merge the lvl40 into the lvl1 hero instead -- but the levels don't transfer over so the resulting hero will be lvl1 with 1 merge.
YES, when you merge heroes together, the one you are sacrificing must be the same star rarity (or higher) than the one you are keeping in order to get the + to merge count.

4*+10? I got this lol. In no particular order. Red : Palla, fantastic unit but a bit too balanced, merges fixes most of her issues and can make her an absolute monster, here's an example cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/106626495857844224/472999583350390815/Screenshot_20180720-220114.jpg Adult Tiki, unless you make her part of your team will do well enough as a 4*+10, if you score high in arena you might 5* a copy and merge her down into her so she gets Breath of Fog, overall much cheaper alternative. Hana, solid red unit, has armor slayer can become a pretty solid armored unit counter in AA when in a pitch. Tharja, as she doesn't score well in arena to begin with unless you really love her, she's amazing as a 4*+10 with Rauorblade, even without hte + the merges will help her have a bit more bulk just enough to hit desperation easier so you can use that juicy bladetome more consistently. Chrom/Marth both of these needs you to 5* one of the copies to pass the falchion down through a merge, Marth is just a really solid character as a whole and becomes a really good universal buffer, useful for both leveling up units or specific buffing team comps for AA, Chrom can be a solid sword counter with swordbreaker and deal with characters like Ayra which other sword units might struggle with, even at +10 Ayra can and will die if you have a 4*+10 Chrom with ATK+ and Fury, which is kind of a feat, considering you need at least 60ATK to get her KOed in one round consistently. Do note Chrom, Marth and Adult Tiki all can score equal to Soleil, so if you want to make a merge project, go ahead. They do need DC though, while Soleil doesn't. Blue : Oboro, solid unit can become a mixed tank unit pretty commendingly, especially with Berkut's Lance and/or Slaying Lance. Lukas, one of your best possible walls, fantastic unit for Arena Assault, better than Oboro at dealing with characters like Ayra and such, prefers slaying lance comboed with bonfire if you use a breaker, ignis if using quick riposte Est, literally the incarnation of fuck all fodder, she's an amazing brave lance unit, with little to no skill inheritance hits 60ATK with it and can use the DEF Ploy seal on top of it pretty well. Nowi, this one is a bit debatable if you REALLY want to 5*+10 her go for it it's better, but if you have little to no interest, work on her, fantastic unit to use as a 4*+10. CorrinF, likewise to Nowi honestly, you can make her a mixed tank as a 4*+10 pretty well, if not you can make her one of the better DEF tank, depends on what niche you wish to do. Bonus meme, Mae, SPD+ and merges lets her be pretty quick and gives her more bulk to deal against DC/dragons when required with blarblade, pretty solid unit overall. Do go RES- to maximize her bulk, unless you prefer the res for ploys. Green : Fae, reason similar to Nowi, again, if you wish to use her in your core, do so she does score decently well, otherwise this is another good option, solid blue dragon counter in AA or blue mage, if you even find those. Beruka, she. is. Insane. Let me just link you to a video I made with her, you'll see for yourself how stupid she gets. th-cam.com/video/i8icm5vPQ-E/w-d-xo.htmlm4s Absolute monster of a unit. Cecilia, wouldn't score well so this is relatively safe especially since she has no fodder to speak of(no raven tomes are dead moving on) Budget option but still a fantastic Gronnblade user especially in AA' definitely still useful for PvE content. Bartre, Another absolute wall just like Beruka, but with less accessible support, that said, hammer is fantastic and lets him obliterate Effies, Hardin and such, a fantastic counter unit for AA to be sure. Frederick, another tank wow seeing a pattern here, but also a fantastic brave axe unit, just like bartre btw, this guy can hit 60ATK with horse buffs and deathblow with a brave axe and also has bulk to take hits, can definitely make use of brash assault if you want to go that route. Colorless, Virion "what the fuck virion sucks" Brave bow + ATK+ lets him hit 47ATK brave bow unbuffed, which breaks quite a few things, his health pool also hits 47 and he still has 24DEF on top of it, bulky as shit. His res leaves to be desired tho, so be careful. Leon, likewise to Virion except a bit more damage to speak of, that said he has ignis so Virion is cheaper in copies, but don't let that fool you. Kagero with merges can be pretty useful as a damage unit as well, mostly with Barb Shuriken. Saizo can be a fantastic Smoke dagger user especially with skills like watersweep to deal with dragons. Literally every healer and their mother. All of them. They don't score well so building them tends to be a dud unless you like them so you can build them as pain+ users, also Clarine stands on top for the most broken stat spread overall able to reach staggering amounts of....well everything.

To be fair, there's plenty more I could point out but was trying to avoid those with pref weapon, as those tend to be a bit more costly than what you're expecting. I DO have a good 30-40 4*+10s lol, For instance 4*+10 Titania is good, but 5*+10 can score the same as a 5*+10 Soleil so....yeah
If you 4* +10 a hero and unlock its potential to 5 star, can you convert those merges into the 5 star unit that you’ve already maxed out? (Same unit but without merges. Completed set etc)
Hi, I have a couple of questions to ask on this (and they'll probably sound pretty newbie-ish and obvious since I'm still fairly new and inexperienced with FEH and am still trying to figure out how to determine best units, teams, skills, the best time to merge, when to decide to unlock potential on a unit, what strategies to use for different situations, etc. etc. ^^; but even so I gotta ask!), the first of which is, as I have been getting increasingly invested in summoning from banners lately, I have two 5* Edelgards and I wanted to know if I should merge them straight away or not? One is level 40 +atk -spd and the other level 1 +hp -atk. I'm also running out of space now for units as I have lots of 3 stars and 4 stars and am almost at the 300 unit cap but so far I haven't got rid of any units just in case they might be useful for something later on... bc as far as I know they could all be potentially decent 5 stars (but then I wouldn't really know...), so is there any extra advice you could offer me at all on how to determine which 3 stars/4 stars units are worthwhile keeping around and investing in and which ones are safe to send away/good to exchange for combat manuals or feathers??? Ok that's all I really need to ask rn, sorry for the long ass comment and thanks so much in advance if you do decide to help me by answering my questions! 😅🙂
I will admit that I am not good with units like her. I don't like their average stats. One of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of Camilla actually. However, that does mean that every stat point you give her is going to be something she will use. Even though her resistance is her standout attribute she needs to have more speed to actually be a tank, and without distant counter it's also pretty useless in my opinion. So she would, but I think that's way too much effort to put into her because she needs a lot of support keeping her around makes a lot of sense to me, but if you want to make it unit out of her just go ahead and throw it with the IV of your choice and have fun! Like I said though she does need a lot of support but she can basically do whatever the heck you want her too when she is buffed PS: text to speech did a number on this one so if it came across unintelligible or insulting I am very sorry

But you can merge more units into a bustang unit. You don't get any more merges added to it, but the skills and stuff like that do transfer over still.
You're quite on a video roll, huh? I never use 4* merges, it just feels kinda wrong to me. Like you're missing out of their full potential. Even though I've got no 5*+10. I do feel like doing this is a nice idea for new players that need a placeholder unit. Like if they need a blue tank, they could 4* merge a Gwen while waiting for a unit like Hardin. For me, I've been playing daily from day one (not always active, but always logging on at least) And thus I've got more than enough 5* to not need to bother.

A 4*+10 Lukas will be great for you. Make sure you find a source for a Slaying Lance+ (or whatever weapon you want) so you an refine it for more def, but that'll be a good unit!

Well, a spare Seth will give him the 3rd level of Fortress Def. QR is always good for defensive units like Lukas and is always a fun* use of 20k feathers -- although QR2 is good enough for now. C skills and seals are always a little more personal so I'll leave that to you.

Once you finish your first team though, you may reach a point where you want to hit higher in Arena. At that point I'd imagine you generally always want to 5*+10 the units you plan to use at that point. Also if you went for a 4*+10 and you suddenly decide you really like them and want to 5*+10.. you've set yourself back 10 copies. (the second point is what stopped me from even trying to 4*+10, because I'm indecisive and I don't really want to waste copies of a unit xD)
On a different note, I just finished my second +10, my Watersweep Reinhardt \o My Eirika is at +9 and I just need another copy to finish her off.
I’m new and this help me a lot thanks. I didn’t never get into fire emblem until I wanted to try something new. I got Summer Camilla, dance Micaiah , Hinoka blue sky, and a couple more. I really like Camilla and Hinoka so far .
Does it matter what level the heroes are when merging, or can I just go ahead and merge when I want?
Hey, just had a thought: would you consider doing a video on your personal Top 5 Heroes to Give Cancel Affinity? The idea would be to use them alongside Maribelle. Could be rare heroes, whatever you feel would be most effective.
Hmmm, that's a thought. I like the idea! I actually have my next 4 videos planned, plus any impromptu opportunities to capitalize on with the Legendary banner and the GHB on Sunday. But I will keep that in mind!
I actually do think 4* +10 merging can be really useful, but in practice, when I did it for Hana, I just never ended up using her because she didn't show up at the top of my barracks, (sorted by rarity), so I just never used her...
For me it depends on which end of the pool they are in. 5-4 work on the 5 star. (Or if they are exclusive units like TT rewards/legendary weapon.) 3-4 stars usually 4* +10.
Exceptions as you stated are favorites. Also... recording inception bout half way through?!

I normally won't merge unless the units are 5 star unless I really need another unit for Arena Assault. For example I have a Bartre that I use but if I'm out of Hardin counters I'll run my merged Frederick. But normally when given the choice I'll either fodder the unit for skills or feathers.
Foddering the unit is still a great use of a hero. I'm just trying to let ppl know that if you are strapped for feathers for any reason then 4*+10 is a good idea to fill out your roster.
Patrick Waddingham Yeah that is definitely the most effective way to play as I've seen with others who play the game. I more just promote each unit, hence my addiction to feathers, maybe fodder some GHB units for skills for my favourites and try to stay in my Arena tier. Oh and also rage at how unfair some of the games GHB's and BHB's are. Like I mentioned with my Frederick since I'm not promoting him for a while he does have a few merges on him from when I was new at the game. If I were to build 4 stars up I'd generally just make them fill a specific niche.
How to about promoting for 5 stars and four stars is a combination of how much I like the character, abundance, and viability. My adult tiki is my only 5 ★ +10, but I have Reinhardt at like +7, raven at +4, and Cordelia at +1. But I just have a shit ton a boeys and fredericks so they're 4 ★ +10. (Btw highly recommend 5 ★ +10 dragons if you can because those stats are wild.)
Availability is definitely very important.
Dragons are great to merge at five stars, especially since so many of them also count as trainees.
Oh, I didn't even see this video when commenting on your other one. 4*+10 is great for people that want to build a lot of units imo as it saves a ton of feathers. A 4*+10 with a 5* weapon at the most will cost you 42,000 feathers if every merge started at only 3*. Whereas a comparable 5*+5 would cost 100,000 more. Hopefully someday IS will let us keep merges when promoting in case you wanted to change your mind about going 5*+10. Luckily I haven't had any regrets thus far. Though at one point I wished my adult Tiki was 5*+10.

And ATiki is the first hero I turned from 4 star merged to 5 star.
As a f2p playing since day 1, with 14 5* +10, more than 300 5*, 52 crowns and 20 thrones, I think I can help with some tips:
1 - build Alphonse, Anna and Sharenna 5* with refine for bonus;
2 - build at least 3 units with 170 bst: as f2p units, the no brainer are Shenna +spd, Gwendy +spd and V! Eliwood (175 bst). Other good options (but you will need A slot 170 bst): Aversa, Camilla, Cherche, Est and Caeda.
3 - Kill 5* for max build. My team 5*+10 can do anything, because the premium slots like VF and DC.
4- to fight for T21 in arena, will you need a bonus with merges: it's a good idea build 4*+10 inside the rotation units, they can fight without problems.
5- promote your more useful units: units like Nowi and Hawkeye are very useful for AR - but no one can beat a M! Corrin +10 with refine for cheerleader!
6- promote anti armor, anti dragon and anti fliers and confer blessing to them: for AA, even with all changes, they are very useful - Merric is a great example, not really great, but very useful against Flying Zura.
7 - Build and promote the units you love: any +10 with the right build can be powerful!
8 - More merges: focus on units with high bst for merges, because you'll need them for Thorr fights.
9- Never promote 4* units +10 with premium slots and/or without the rotation units!
My units +10: Cecilia, W! Cecilia, Rein, Gwendy, Sheena, Draug, Effie, Camilla, Aversa, Naesala, Olivia, M! Corrin, Nowi and Hawkeye.
I would like to eventually 5* +10 as many units as I can so I know that in the long term it'll be a waste of resources. I do have all four movement emblems built as well as units for arena assault so I suppose for me there's no need to merge any 4* units but I can certainly see why you may do it now, I remember the (not so) good old days of finishing training tower cavalry/flier quests with three level 1 units!

The reason I don't like Robin is pretty unfair, but it's because he was difficult to level due to his lack of damage output against the general training tower population and how much everyone else said he was great when I found him to be difficult :D Logically I know better, but I've never reconciled the thoughts :D
I have a couple of the same 5 Gold Stars that the game keeps telling me that I can't merge. I have no idea why it refuses to merge them, they are the EXACT same character! I even tried to merge a newly promote a new 5 gold star into my level 40 5 Gold star and it STILL refused to merge.
Question: If you have a 5* hero +10 and merge them to a 4* hero till he/she reaches 4*+10 and then merge her/him to a 5*, will he/she take a big stat boosts or it will be like a normal merge?
Also a lvl 30 gives more stats when merge to an other than a lvl 1?
I have a mindset of not using 3-4* so too bad :/

You can merge more units into a 4*+10 unit. It doesn't turn +11, but it gets skills from the other copy.

The +10 will be removed. You'll get a feather discount on the promotion equal to what you would get if you sent home 10 4* units.

Questionable advice. I would never merge 5* units unless 1) they have no skills worth inheriting, 2) they are part of your arena core, or 3) you get a better IV and the original has expensive skills inherited.When considering your arena core you want to create 5*+10 units that score well and that you can actually get 11 copies of. You have mostly low scoring merged 5* units yet you made 4*+10 out of the highest scoring units (armors). Makes no sense to me. This game is pretty easy so aside from arena scoring, unmerged 5*s are fine to complete all content.

I intentionally don't talk much about arena scoring in this video because I have another video on my channel that talks about just that topic! I would actually love your critique on it, so I hope you watch it!
I hinted at availability briefly in the video, but I should have made it a larger part. I think it is less of an issue with how the summoning pools are now but there is no guarantee they won't become just as fragmented in the future as they were a few months ago.
Also, please don't mistake a 10min video for deep knowledge of my play situation for a year and a half! I'm very aware Draug and Gwen are good scoring units and would be well suited as 5* +10 units. But when I first made them I had barely any feathers or orbs to my name! They served me well in the early months of the game and I couldn't think of a better use of those units than to make the bulwark they became when I merged them at 4*.
I can relate to the feather drought early on in the game's life. I regret merging my Marth at 4* since now with his weapon refine I would love to get him to 5*+10 (especially since he can support bonus units in arena for the extra points that will be available after the next update).
I still think that if you are going to claim the video is a guide for merging for new players, you need to mention arena scoring and availability (and thus Draug, Gwendolyn, and Sheena being the prime candidates for 5*+10. And I say that as someone who only has dragons at 5*+10! ) :)

You make a great point concerning omitting the scoring aspects of units and the effects of 4* vs 5*. I was originally writing the notes for the video assuming that the player wouldn't merge the 5* unit they made much, but since I can't dictate who watches the videos leaving that info out was an error on my part.

No, the ones you merge together don't need to have to be at any specific level. If you have a lvl40 hero you want to keep and a lvl1 copy of that hero, you can just merge the lvl1 into the lvl40.
One thing to note, if you prefer the asset/boon that the lvl1 hero has over the lvl40, you can merge the lvl40 into the lvl1 hero instead -- but the levels don't transfer over so the resulting hero will be lvl1 with 1 merge.

YES, when you merge heroes together, the one you are sacrificing must be the same star rarity (or higher) than the one you are keeping in order to get the + to merge count.

Your Lucina you want to fodder is marked as a favorite. Remove the heart from her in her stats screen and you should be good to go!

Red :

Adult Tiki, unless you make her part of your team will do well enough as a 4*+10, if you score high in arena you might 5* a copy and merge her down into her so she gets Breath of Fog, overall much cheaper alternative.
Hana, solid red unit, has armor slayer can become a pretty solid armored unit counter in AA when in a pitch.
Tharja, as she doesn't score well in arena to begin with unless you really love her, she's amazing as a 4*+10 with Rauorblade, even without hte + the merges will help her have a bit more bulk just enough to hit desperation easier so you can use that juicy bladetome more consistently.
Chrom/Marth both of these needs you to 5* one of the copies to pass the falchion down through a merge, Marth is just a really solid character as a whole and becomes a really good universal buffer, useful for both leveling up units or specific buffing team comps for AA, Chrom can be a solid sword counter with swordbreaker and deal with characters like Ayra which other sword units might struggle with, even at +10 Ayra can and will die if you have a 4*+10 Chrom with ATK+ and Fury, which is kind of a feat, considering you need at least 60ATK to get her KOed in one round consistently.
Do note Chrom, Marth and Adult Tiki all can score equal to Soleil, so if you want to make a merge project, go ahead. They do need DC though, while Soleil doesn't.
Blue :
Oboro, solid unit can become a mixed tank unit pretty commendingly, especially with Berkut's Lance and/or Slaying Lance.
Lukas, one of your best possible walls, fantastic unit for Arena Assault, better than Oboro at dealing with characters like Ayra and such, prefers slaying lance comboed with bonfire if you use a breaker, ignis if using quick riposte
Est, literally the incarnation of fuck all fodder, she's an amazing brave lance unit, with little to no skill inheritance hits 60ATK with it and can use the DEF Ploy seal on top of it pretty well.
Nowi, this one is a bit debatable if you REALLY want to 5*+10 her go for it it's better, but if you have little to no interest, work on her, fantastic unit to use as a 4*+10.
CorrinF, likewise to Nowi honestly, you can make her a mixed tank as a 4*+10 pretty well, if not you can make her one of the better DEF tank, depends on what niche you wish to do.
Bonus meme, Mae, SPD+ and merges lets her be pretty quick and gives her more bulk to deal against DC/dragons when required with blarblade, pretty solid unit overall. Do go RES- to maximize her bulk, unless you prefer the res for ploys.
Green :
Fae, reason similar to Nowi, again, if you wish to use her in your core, do so she does score decently well, otherwise this is another good option, solid blue dragon counter in AA or blue mage, if you even find those.

Cecilia, wouldn't score well so this is relatively safe especially since she has no fodder to speak of(no raven tomes are dead moving on) Budget option but still a fantastic Gronnblade user especially in AA' definitely still useful for PvE content.
Bartre, Another absolute wall just like Beruka, but with less accessible support, that said, hammer is fantastic and lets him obliterate Effies, Hardin and such, a fantastic counter unit for AA to be sure.
Frederick, another tank wow seeing a pattern here, but also a fantastic brave axe unit, just like bartre btw, this guy can hit 60ATK with horse buffs and deathblow with a brave axe and also has bulk to take hits, can definitely make use of brash assault if you want to go that route.
Colorless,
Virion "what the fuck virion sucks" Brave bow + ATK+ lets him hit 47ATK brave bow unbuffed, which breaks quite a few things, his health pool also hits 47 and he still has 24DEF on top of it, bulky as shit. His res leaves to be desired tho, so be careful.
Leon, likewise to Virion except a bit more damage to speak of, that said he has ignis so Virion is cheaper in copies, but don't let that fool you.
Kagero with merges can be pretty useful as a damage unit as well, mostly with Barb Shuriken.
Saizo can be a fantastic Smoke dagger user especially with skills like watersweep to deal with dragons.
Literally every healer and their mother. All of them. They don't score well so building them tends to be a dud unless you like them so you can build them as pain+ users, also Clarine stands on top for the most broken stat spread overall able to reach staggering amounts of....well everything.

To be fair, there's plenty more I could point out but was trying to avoid those with pref weapon, as those tend to be a bit more costly than what you're expecting. I DO have a good 30-40 4*+10s lol, For instance 4*+10 Titania is good, but 5*+10 can score the same as a 5*+10 Soleil so....yeah

If you 4* +10 a hero and unlock its potential to 5 star, can you convert those merges into the 5 star unit that you’ve already maxed out? (Same unit but without merges. Completed set etc)
Hi, I have a couple of questions to ask on this (and they'll probably sound pretty newbie-ish and obvious since I'm still fairly new and inexperienced with FEH and am still trying to figure out how to determine best units, teams, skills, the best time to merge, when to decide to unlock potential on a unit, what strategies to use for different situations, etc. etc. ^^; but even so I gotta ask!), the first of which is, as I have been getting increasingly invested in summoning from banners lately, I have two 5* Edelgards and I wanted to know if I should merge them straight away or not? One is level 40 +atk -spd and the other level 1 +hp -atk. I'm also running out of space now for units as I have lots of 3 stars and 4 stars and am almost at the 300 unit cap but so far I haven't got rid of any units just in case they might be useful for something later on... bc as far as I know they could all be potentially decent 5 stars (but then I wouldn't really know...), so is there any extra advice you could offer me at all on how to determine which 3 stars/4 stars units are worthwhile keeping around and investing in and which ones are safe to send away/good to exchange for combat manuals or feathers??? Ok that's all I really need to ask rn, sorry for the long ass comment and thanks so much in advance if you do decide to help me by answering my questions! 😅🙂

I will admit that I am not good with units like her. I don't like their average stats. One of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of Camilla actually. However, that does mean that every stat point you give her is going to be something she will use. Even though her resistance is her standout attribute she needs to have more speed to actually be a tank, and without distant counter it's also pretty useless in my opinion. So she would, but I think that's way too much effort to put into her because she needs a lot of support keeping her around makes a lot of sense to me, but if you want to make it unit out of her just go ahead and throw it with the IV of your choice and have fun! Like I said though she does need a lot of support but she can basically do whatever the heck you want her too when she is buffed

That is one of the nicest things about the 4 star merge, you can easily get more opportunities for boons.

I never use 4* merges, it just feels kinda wrong to me. Like you're missing out of their full potential.

I do feel like doing this is a nice idea for new players that need a placeholder unit. Like if they need a blue tank, they could 4* merge a Gwen while waiting for a unit like Hardin.
For me, I've been playing daily from day one (not always active, but always logging on at least) And thus I've got more than enough 5* to not need to bother.
I always wanted to be a 3 videos a week kinda guy :) just couldn't get a move on over the past few months. Also, I think I burnt myself out on build videos a little...
Can't force yourself to make build vids all the time.
I do like those vids, but these are a nice change of pace.

I have already been gearing up to make a video for him! I'm just conflicted as to whether or not I want to release it on Sunday or Monday. I guess I will let my production process answer that question for me.

I'm a pretty big fan of the bad guys as well. Makes me wish they were easier to merge
I feel like 4* merges are kind of a waste... I'd just rather always promote them to 5*. I mean if u rly don't care about the unit then be my guest but I just personally wouldn't do it
4* merges arn't for everybody. I don't want to beat the topic to death, but I figured a video on the advantages of both would be a good idea. I mean, play as you will, it's just a game. #justkidding #fehislife
A 4 star plus 10 merge is still weaker then a 5 star merge plus 1
