    I've had decent luck with Magtech 10A 180 gr FMJ target loads for shooting steel. They claim 1250 fps from a 5" barrel, but I have seen 1300 fps out of my Glock 40 MOS with the 6" barrel. It may not be quite as full-house as Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, Underwood, etc., but it's a lot more satisfying than shooting something at .40 S&W velocities, such as American Eagle or some of the other pud loadings out there.

  • @freedj27
    @freedj27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    10mm is a blast to shoot. I have a sig p220 legion in 10mm. It is picky on ammo selection. A lot of the 180 grain hp will not fit in the mag. Had a problem with sig 180 grain vcrown not fitting the mag and sig finally informed me that their own ammo isn’t compatible with the magazine for their 10mm pistol they produce. Their older style mags will take larger hp, but sometimes they can be hard to find for sale. It will shoot the 180 grain fmj, but have to verify the hp ammo I purchase. Bb is so far the only 180 grain I’ve found that will fit the mag. It also shoots the Winchester 175 grain silvertips very nicely. Great video. It’s nice to see what to expect with different rounds.

    • @rsbreeze
      @rsbreeze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      WTF??? I've got a Sig P220 Hunter, essentially the same gun, and it runs everything. Probably shot 20 didn't rounds of ammo in it.

    • @ToolsandTargets
      @ToolsandTargets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely strange stuff there. The only other 10mm handgun I have an interest in buying is possibly a Glock 29 or 40. Seem too many random hiccups and weirdness on videos with all these new 10mm's on the market.

    • @freedj27
      @freedj27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rsbreeze I’m not sure. They may have made a change on the magazines since then and got it corrected. It’s due to the slight angle on the mags to help push past the magazine catch for easy installation. The old style didn’t have the angle. They changed the old style that could hold about anything, because people complained about the mag being difficult to install or having to push the mag release to install it easier. The angles do help with making the mag easier to install. My problem was back in 2019. They may have made a change from then. Haven’t tried purchasing any since I got an older style mag. Sig ended up taking my 200 rounds of vcrown, which I ordered expecting sig ammo to work with sig guns, and sending me 400 rounds of fmj to make up for it. I was ok with the swap, but had to do research when purchasing, or when I purchase bring a mag to see if they will fit before I make a purchase. Some smaller stores will let you check. I look at the profile of the hp, if it has a wide front edge, it probably won’t work for me. May try ordering a new mag to see if they made a change.

S&B is collecting dust waiting for me to run outta everything else. They use fewer steps in case manufacturing to save money I believe. I bought Armscor 38 spl fmj and some 500 S&W 300 JHP because the price was too good to pass up. Haven't chrono'd either, but the 500 only recoil in my Handi Rifle about the same as 44 spl in my CVA hunter, whereas the Underwood 350 JHP in 500 are closing on 2000 fps. The 440 LFNGC Buffalo Bore are stompers at 1820 from the rifle and with the sectional density to match.
    Comparing the 2, Armscor v Buffalo Bore, from my perspective is a you get more bang for more bucks and for me, in hunting or self defense, the most bang is the best bang.

I have no experience with it but from the thread they were saying that between the customer service, pressures, and price it’s not worth picking over the underwood 10 mm. From what I read people were having catastrophic failures with buffalo bore. Awesome test T&T! Laughed hard at the 'disgusting' comment, that was damn funny!
    As for the test, you're spot on as usual. 10MM and .357Sig both suffer from the same issue, watered down loads and thanks to boutique manufacturers, we can still get true 10MM and .357Sig loads from Underwood and Buffalo Bore.
    One thing to keep in mind, the 180gr 10MM XTP is also used in the manufacture of .40S&W 180gr Hornady XTP ammunition, so it will expand properly at over 1050fps in bare gel, but the FBI/IWBA testing protocol will likely push the XTP beyond it's capability to reliably expand.

    I've always loved buffalo bore. They've been my go to for premium hunting ammunition for a long time. With that said, back when I was doing a lot of similar testing I found their defensive ammo while great in ballistic performance somewhat lacking in bullet performance. This has got me thinking I need to take another look.i know in the past they were using Montana Gold bullets which were very accurate. But it seemed in the higher velocity rounds they were fairly frangible. And in the lower velocity rounds they didn't expand reliably. After seeing this I'd say at least that 10mm bullet has improved drastically or it's a different bullet. I had moved over to Underwood for 10mm because I found the Gold dot to be the best performing bullet in 10mm. And always felt for the cost of the Buffalo Bore we should have been getting a premium bullet. Like I said, I guess I'm going to have to take another look! Thanks for another great video!

I want something that delivers the energy hard but can’t get through both shoulders of a deer at the same time.
