You guys do some really incredible work...when the environment you’re working in is taken into account. You’re basically the inverse of an astronaut, and no doubt the work is just as challenging, if not more so. After all, I’ve never heard of any Astronauts having to decompress. I hope that you all are paid really well, because without your efforts, we wouldn’t have the modern society we’ve become accustomed to these days. As a military Veteran, I appreciate the challenging and important work that saturation divers perform each and every day.
this is about 28 atmouspheres at this depth, the pressure we feel on surface is 1 atm.. the amount of pressure this puts on your body is unbelievable.. Would be some kind of crazy experience
Curtis Bateman, you can not feel the pressure on your body because you are breathing a gas mixture at a pressure equal to depth you are diving to. The only good thing about diving to that depth is the time it would take to decompress as you are on full sat pay.
@@curt714 I've heard many different estimates and ranges. From $100 per hour, an article stating $1,400 per day. Others saying $45,000 to $90,000 per month. And an angry comment on one of these articles claiming that it's closer to $20,000 per month since work has slowed and you're lucky to get 6 months of work per year. Obviously, the more dangerous the conditions and more experience the better
I agree completely. I just wonder if the company pays for that bailout or if it the responsibility of the diver. I saw the new Divex Cobra system for sale at close to 25k, if a diver wanted to use that as his bailout even for more shallow dives, is paying for that system up to the diver?
And the Cobra is good for 45 safe minutes at the same depth right? Ive read the literature too. 80% of the reason Im into commercial diving is because I like the gear, the technology. I just wish it were cheaper so I didn't have to work for the enemy in order to use it. That's why I would think about buying my own gear, so I don't have to help contribute to the pollution of the earth in order to have access to it. Oh well, that is my own issue.
Thanks for offering to assist my research, however what would be of far greater value would be suggesting how to purchases, insure and operate my own DSV, DDC, inland commercial dive operation, complete with containerized equipment, semi rig to haul it around, marketing/networking plan, government/corporate partners to insure business is secure for the next 100 years...you could suggest how to pay for the million dollar plus submersible I want or the eco powered subsea habitat. Ideas?
@kurofitness You have big plans! I'm just a diver so I'm useless when it comes to financial, but inland work, your going to need a chamber, find one then buy a cube van big enough for it to fit in, buy equipment suitable (tell me specifics to the diving, warm water cold water, depth)
At least they have the benefits of modern tech & modern attitudes to safety - imagine doing saturation diving in the 70's . It's good to have video available but the music is terrible - could it have been chosen simply because it sounds like a helium modulated voice at the start ?
Dave shaw never made it to 310m in boesmansgat, he over packed his rebreather so his breathing was laboured almost from the start of the dive. On the bottom he got tangled up in the line and was working hard to get untangled. That effort, combined with "breathing through a straw" raised his CO2 levels; eventually causing him to stop breathing about 20 minutes or so into the dive. And you don't see all the breaks? When your breathing rate / heart rate goes up, its time for you to slow down.
Not the same task. Shaw was running against time for his survival, tangled in a rope, breathing from an improper air-source for that kind of task. Here you are breathing a proper mix for the depth you're working at, you have "unlimited" amount of breathing mix, and you run, but for work, and at your own pace. Very different situations.

As Im sure you know, for each situation, there is the right tool. I can only work hard and plan for the day when I am able to afford the right tools for any job that comes my way and believe that doing your best with pure and honorable intentions, the right doors will be opened for me. Some things you buy, some things you lease or work a partnership. There are millions in US federal funding for environmental and scientific ventures. Have you seen Aquarius in Florida? Sad few examples tho.
hambone950 if you are still considering this, go to DIT in seattle, im currently a student there and they will get you in the right place, it takes quite awhile to becaoe a saturation diver but if you want this career look up Divers institute of technology and admissions will set everything up
The Ocean Corporation in Houston , Texas specializes in off shore diving operations. Great staff and will help you get a job after you graduate. I graduated in 1993 and had a job before I graduated. Best of luck bubble head.....
@kurofitness then you need to find a cooperate sponsor, convince them that you will be profitable and get a rough outline of profits and why you will be successful about the sub and your habitat and vehicle that all needs money. Commercial diving that is not part of the oil/gas/nuclear industry. Pulling/raising ghost nets, environmental cleanup, salvage etc
