Lionel TW vs The LW Model Railroad Train Transformers - which one is REALLY more powerful!?

  • The Lionel 175 watt TW and the 125 watt LW are two popular transformers made in the USA during the postwar period. This is one interesting example where things are not as they may appear. Namely, the higher wattage TW transformer is great for powering a load of accessories, however, it is NOT the best when it comes to powering trains that draw high current.
    Here I reveal the reasons for this.

    You know, I can understand why bluetooth would be marketable these days, but I tell ya, there's something so beautiful and visceral about controlling a train with a transformer. It's an experience that kids deserve to have!

    Don't judge a book by its cover or a transformer from its size! Thanks for useful advice regarding TW -- an attractive unit that belongs in the accessory lane!
