I agree with having a clinical background. I’m so glad I have that under my belt. I’m reviewing this video to take better notes
Wonderful video! I’m pursuing a Bachelors degree in Health Services Management. One thing it will get me ready for is the CHDA certification. I’m looking forward to getting my new career started.
Thanks for watching, good luck on attaining your certification!
@@healthanalyticinsights thanks 😊
I like in this video that you say that you received no information from your career Dept. I just finished my bachelors in health informatics and when I was looking for jobs six months prior to graduation they weren’t helpful nor did they understand the degree itself.
Hi.
Nice meeting you
I have almost one year in pharmacy tech and great communication skills
Thank you very much, very helpful.
thanks for watching!
Nice video.
I will be emailing you as soon as possible.
Regards
Great video! I'm an RN with 15 years of experience looking to switch over to a Clinical Data Analyst role. Would you recommend learning SAS as well as SQL, Power BI, and Tableau?
Hello, in my opinion I would prioritize learning SQL then Power BI/Tableau. It can be difficult to learn SAS without paying for the license so you can use open source tools such as R or Python.
@@healthanalyticinsights Great, thanks for responding so promptly!🙂
Hello, thank you so much, this is the most informative video i have come along. I'm a medical doctor by profession and I did a short course on data analytics and I really loved it update. I've been thinking about transitioning from practicing . I just didn't know how. I am glad that I found this video just a question , i feel like actual reading is involved in brainstorming answers to certain problem, such as factors associated with readmission?
Thanks for your comment! Can you elaborate when you say " I feel like actual reading is involved in brainstorming answers to certain problem, such as factors associated with readmission?"
@healthanalyticinsights As in there are known groups that are at risk of say, readmission. So does it mean that ,your data analysis covers established factors or how else would you come up with a prediction of readmission.
@@heriethalexander5145 got it, I would say even before carrying out data analysis you would need to have conversations with clinical staff to get a sense of what the general risk factors are of the population you are studying so you can incorporate those established factors in your analysis.
hi! i was wondering if you can get a wfh job right away or do you need to work in person first?
Hello, it depends on the organization, the majority of the people that I know who work in health informatics work in a hybrid situation (e.g., 2 days in office, 3 days at home).
@@healthanalyticinsights ar you hybrid? also do you use SQL? :) btw if you just have a bachelors do you need to get a certification in sql to get hired? (also did you do an internship)
I'm camera shy and cannot present... will this be an issue I'd I want to be a data analyst? I am a medical coder and an very happy with that, but I want to hit 6 figures sooner than later
Hello Vianey, the job can vary depending on your job title, as you might need to be able present data insights to clinical stakeholders. Toastmasters and other public speaking organizations might help you to develop these presentation skills. You might be interested in more tech heavy roles working in a healthcare organization such as, a Database Administrator or Data Engineer.
hi! is there a difference between this, and clinical informaticist? can you get into this field with a bachelor's in health information management? thank you!
Hi Kasey in my opinion the two terms are interchangeable. I would say yes, you can look for roles such as an EHR analyst or Clinical Systems Analyst, roles looking at optimizing the clinical workflow. Here is a career map from AHIMA which has some job titles in this field: my.ahima.org/careermap
@@healthanalyticinsights is it hard to get a job in this without a masters, or without a computer science or engineering degree.. also if someone got a bachelors in say business or health admin would that not be enough to work in informatics?
i'm not sure the HIM type of degree teaches programming language
oh and is informatics more so working with the data systems and setting them up... and data analytics is just visualizing data? like i thought the clinical informatics worked more with technology doing tech stuff but maybe i am wrong lol
@@kaseyyrenae I would say it is more difficult without experience, I think if you have internship or a coop experience you can find a job with a bachelors.
Is there a difference between digital health and healthcare data analysis?
In my opinion, Digital Health is the process of digitizing health records by transforming paper versions of patients’ health information and entering in this information into an Electronic Health Record system, which might be developed by an Electronic Health Record vendor such as Epic or Cerner. I think of Digital Health as the input stage. One might input health information into mHealth apps or the wearable device you are wearing might automatically input your step count or heart rate. Other areas of Digital Health can include, how we share this data between different health systems through health information exchange or telehealth/telemedicine which has been especially popular during the pandemic.
When I think of the field of healthcare data analysis, I think of this as the analysis stage. We take the health data that was input in the form of an electronic health record or wearable app and we transform this raw data into actionable outcomes which can improve patient outcomes. This could look like building a report or dashboard that tracks re-admission rates which might be sourced from the patient’s health record
Do you organize a class on this? If yes, when is your next session?
hlthanalyticinsights.gumroad.com/l/becomeahealthcareanalyst
When I was transitioning into the healthcare data analytics field and developing my technical skills, one area that I found missing was a lack of online courses highlighting a clinical problem (e.g., determining re-admission rates back to hospitals).
There are several analytical courses out there but I couldn't find anything that could help me to gain experience working with a clinical dataset so that I could practice my technical skills and build a portfolio project that would be relevant for hiring managers in the healthcare data analytics field. I ended up creating this course found here: hlthanalyticinsights.gumroad.com/l/becomeahealthcareanalyst
Which one is better health informatics or health data analytics
Health Informatics might be a better decision if you prefer a non-technical role and want to use your clinical skills to improve clinical workflow or train users on an Electronic Health Record system. If you are looking for a technical role where you analyze data and use tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL and/or Python you might be interested in health data analytics.
I'm looking to get my Bachelors degree in Healthcare Information Management and my Masters degree in Health Informatic & Analysis. Would this be a good route to take? TIA
Hello, I have seen people take that path. If you are interested in healthcare analytics I would suggest looking at the career map from AHIMA here ahima.org/career-map and research some of the job titles in the Data Analytics and Informatics section to see if this would be of interest to you.
I would look at the hospitals and healthcare analyst jobs in your area to gauge what skills you need. Apply for internships early and network
i am intersted in health informatics but have a marketing background, not a clinical background. what do you recommend? a MS in health informatics? would a MS in data analytics get me in the door? tia!
Hello, I would recommend a MS in data analytics to learn skills such as Power BI, Tableau, and/or SQL this can provide job opportunities that could help you to pivot into health informatics.
@@healthanalyticinsights that was my thought too! I am leaning toward western governors data analyst ms if you have any insight on this program? Thanks so much for your reply!
@@Disneyfamiglia I'm based in Canada so I do not know about that program, good luck!
Hospitals need marketing too and event planning! Don't neglect your experience
What type of course we have to do
You might be interested in getting a degree in health informatics although usually a relevant clinical degree is preferred. Here are a list of health informatic programs: www.nihi.ca/listings.php?ListType=HIMProgram
Hi, I have post graduate in life sciences and experience in clinical hospital domain and clinical data and SAS fresher so can I go for health data science, AI, python etc..which is advisable for me? I am in confusion..
Thank you.
Health data science is a relatively niche field I would try and find a job at a large healthcare organization, healthcare startup, or government organization that might be working in this area. Python and SQL are good skills to learn for data science, natural language processing for medical chatbots might be an interesting area to investigate.
Hi iam Cpc certified medical coder..what course should i do to become a healthcare analyst??
Some common technical tools used to become a healthcare analyst include:
Knowledge of SQL programming language to query relational databases.
Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.…
Experience working with large clinical datasets
I would consider taking courses in a data visualization tool such as Power BI or Tableau and learning more about SQL
Are there any entry level jobs which will train you on sql? Because I've watched youtube videos, did some oreilly courses and sql zoo. But i dont have actual work experience writing sql queries.
I would look for roles as a Research Analyst or Data Analyst, these roles might be looking for less than 2 years of experience and provide opportunities to learn SQL on the job.
@@healthanalyticinsights I have a Health science degree and a certificate in Healthcare IT. The classes I took are Healthcare Informatics
Healthcare Database Systems
Ethical and Legal Issues of Healthcare
Systems and Business Process Analysis for Healthcare Professionals
Project Management and Practice. So I feel like I have a solid foundation. My problem is that I don't have any relevant work exp. I work for a computerized testing company doing software support along with some business analyst work.
@@SirWaffleesCheck out business analyst too! i got this out of college and sql was optional but has become an essential skill of mine! in the year i've been working--
within a job, it seems you can request more 'technical' assignments and gain the experience that helps you move around anywhere! best of luck!
also, you might be able to be an assistant to a consultant/analyst, i did this part time remotely while i was in university and i was exposed to the programs and technology- i started off sending emails and after 4 or 5 months, i was doing jira and salesforce administration tasks and system implementations and documentation.
check out the software development life cycle and the agile methodology! these are some key words they always bring up in interviews: im not sure about health care analysis, but IT system analysts generally use this type of systems.
i recommend excel, power query within excel, and then getting into power bi
How do I get in? Any certifications
Health Informatics especially the area that is focused on analytics might be of interest to you. Some roles include a Clinical Analyst, Reporting Analyst and/or Clinical Data Analyst. I got started by learning data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and SQL. I have written a blog post which goes in more detail here: healthanalyticinsights.com/?p=172
The CAHIMS certification might be helpful to learn more about this field www.himss.org/resources-certification/cahims
I am a data analyst i want to specialize in health care analysis
did you transition to health care?
@@Disneyfamiglia yes, I did
congratulations! @@alexifidon5250 ! how are you liking it? i really want to break into this field but feel a bit lost with whehter to do a boot camp, MS, etc with no clinical background (im a copywriter)
@@Disneyfamiglia Well I am looking to taking a master's in digital health a lot still needs to be learnt. Mostly the foundational aspect in health informatics and only then can one say he is a professional.
