The question why is there evil, sufffering and pain is articulated often by disbelievers and muslims too...■.How could God Allow natural disasters? 8 potential wisdoms in the islamic tradition: 1. Sentiment that it is a mistake to try to rationalize/ assess why Allah does anything. Who are we to question Allah? 2. Calamities bring about a sense of humility, reminds us of our mortality. Wisdom is that it wakens us up, brings us closer to Allah SWT. 3. Sometimes calamity is the result of a punishment. Might not apply on communal level. At individual level we could question ourselves. 4. Calamities can be a means for 'kaffaara'. Allah will forgive sins and raises the ranks. 5. Calamities can be a means for 'thawaab'. Allah will give back much more than he took as reward. 6. Calamities can be blessings in disguise. It can avert a bigger calamity. 7. Educative theodicy: calamity should be a lesson for appreciativeness. 8. In seeing the devestations, the poor and orphans Allah is testing us with how we respond too. Who is generous? Who is giving? The one who does not show mercy to others will not be shown mercy by the Rahmaan. We should try to help as much as possible instead of worrying to try to understand..! We have to submit to Allah's will and decree. For sure, Allah knows and we do not kow..
