The autonomous A7, demonstrated at CES 2013, uses a range of cameras, sensors and network data to navigate unaccompanied from your garage to your current location without running anyone down. This prototype is the ultimate conclusion of the sophisticated and very real electronics that will be assisting Audi drivers this year. Wired.co.uk followed Audi to NAIAS (north American international motor show) to find out more.

I remember watching this 10 years ago and being fascinated by the dashboard. It's still a cool one, but it now looks old.

The whole concept of driver-less cars has me very excited. I quite like Google's claim of 90% accident reduction, 90% energy/time waste reduction, and 90% cost reduction. Instead of owning a car you simply "call" when you need one, and 'hire' a vehicle for the time you need it. Need to just get somewhere? Great, here's a small hatchback. Need to move some stuff? Here's a big truck! No more expensive maintenance, no more stress, far less accidents and traffic. This is the future, and I'm excited!
Well, it's 10 years in the future and it hasn't happened yet,so don't get too excited.
I was literally saying only 'WOW' through the whole video. That car is amazing, no matter what anyone says. Audi has the best cars and their quality is not questionable.
+Sara Matić Not so fast. Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Ford all have shown self driving cars since 1998. The only car that is in the market and is in the forefront is TESLA. Mercedes & BMW follow behind. BMW can park itself in your home garage. All others are showing models for your grandchildren or great grandchildren.

So is this able to read the signs explaining when you can and can't park somewhere, take the ticket when it enters the garage, pay with a credit card on its way out?

Needs a red LED display behind the front grill, like the car KIT in the old TV series. That would be so awesome, and it would alert other nearby drivers to the fact that it is a driver-less car, and no amount of honking is going to make it go faster, lol.

Google and Audi should collaborate to make this technology available as soon as possible since it would be a great innovation.

arenc muka Lets assume a case when while walking next to car you loose your balance and your head suddenly is few inches to tire. Car didn't detect that and it run over your head.
crazypaco I don't think so because this case is like a normal obstacle for the car , in on other video shows how the car stop and wait till the obstacle move away

Obviously you would have a backup plan, GPS tracking systems and some car keys.

Beautiful car, design and feature although I still would rely on someone being in the car ready for anything ( god forbid something happens)

Wow. What an incredible technology.
I would like to see it park on black Friday or 3 days before Christmas. It would probably shut down with all the confusion, then overload and drive through a dept store front window. It then will hunt down the driver who initiated the park sequence, then run them over for not parking it them damn self.
Since it's an algorithm it most likely would be way more patient and successful than most human drivers.

This was in 2013, wow. Its parking is so precise, but a bit jerky on driving about I noticed. Now I am not a fan of autonomous vehicles for driving me about what so ever, but a car programmed to take itself off and park it, yeah, I will buy that now please and can it drive more smoothly yet?, there must have been some improvements surely. Where is it, 2020???.

What if it runs into an obstacle (other vehicle, luggage, person) or worse hits it? Not just in terms of completing the park, but also liability?

It's not an auto pilot car just a self parking car. In the real world of mixed AVs and manual control cars it would be a very different matter. Plus imagine a driver in a manual control car having fun with the AV by doing things that would confuse it. A human driver would make assessments and handle the situation but an AV would have a meltdown.

Well there are so many problems with this thing. What if a traffic problem happen in front of the A7 while its on auto pilot. What will it do ? And i dont think i can leave my expensive car at the middle of the road , turn around and go away without being sure if its parked. Or what happened. :D is it just me?
