Lui Kang became God of Fire at the end of it and defeated Kronika and stopped her distortion of time. He restarted time for EarthRealm and that is why this new game, which takes place after the last game, and is now, Mortal Kombat 1, Lui Kang restarted time. Which is also why Raiden is not God of Thunder (he became too big for himself and kinda went mad with power). I hope that helps Cuz.
