Yes the chin tilt is often used in r&b singing as it helps create that sultry, slurred tone that that you heard Jazmine employ in her second song. It also helps increase airflow within the vocal chamber and thus runs and falsetto notes are easier to execute.
@@rahneff3952 in classical music a lower larynx is desirable and unfortunately, classical technique is the one that ends up being taught the most. I've only started learning other styles and methods about four years ago. It's been extremely liberating to learn the voice as a matter of cause and effect as opposed to right and wrong.

With the chin tilt, it’s more often used to facilitate the talk-singing style but definitely isn’t healthy if you are trying to do belts, for which having the larynx in a relaxed and neutral/lowered position would be better!

I think you'll enjoy the video I have scheduled for Friday. Folks want my take on her singing at 11 (she is indeed impressive there as well), but I want people to understand that this is so much more than just talent. It's her, you know? She has put so much into her development as a singer and artist. It takes a lot to be THIS many levels above the average singer. The fact that she is this good is a form of self expression in and of itself. The video is a bit embarrassingly passionate, but I hope I get the point across. If not, I'll maybe do some more break downs of her technique. There's so much to see here. And yeah, that's frustrating haha. It's also inspiring though.

ESPECIALLY if they're singing a capella!

The reason she tilts her head up is that she doesn't want all the air go go into the mic, so she was vocalizing into the air by tilting her head and then she slowly brings it down.

They absolutely punked the temple university chorus (which I was in) and I couldn't have been happier. They also sang with the philly orchestra. I think belting is probably the hardest thing to do in singing (has the most vocal injuries) and black gospel is brutally difficult. When someone does it well, let alone an entire choir, its an exhilarating experience; one that I will never forget.

Lol this is my 3rd time watching you react to this. If I can suggest another video, I’d say please do “Evergreen” by Yebba (the Apple Beats performance in the cathedral). Also a bit of a curveball suggestion lol...”Change Me” by Tamela Mann. It’s actually a gospel performance but it’s another great example of control, blending, and just a lifetime of experience making an amazing performance. ❤️

The reason she tilts her head up is that she doesn't want all the air go go into the mic, so she was vocalizing into the air by tilting her head and then she slowly brings it down.
That would make sense. Apparently many teach belting with that tilt, but this was new for me.

I had the absolute pleasure of performing with a group in philadelphia that KILLED black gospel. They absolutely punked the temple university chorus (which I was in) and I couldn't have been happier. They also sang with the philly orchestra. I think belting is probably the hardest thing to do in singing (has the most vocal injuries) and black gospel is brutally difficult. When someone does it well, let alone an entire choir, its an exhilarating experience; one that I will never forget.
