Hey friend, you're all over my ads. I see your face more than my family's.
"Here's your awesome reference track...and here's the dollar store version of your track" "Hey, you suck at mastering if you're trying to find mastering videos on TH-cam."
I don't know your name, but if you want to come over for dinner, I make a mean pasta

cool vid! When layering compression in a mastering chain, is there an order that you like to work with in terms of the aggression of the compressors? Thanks!

This video was gold ! Learned a lot and got much more clarity on how to use compression for mastering. I had experience with compression but this definitely furthered my knowledge. Thanks!

GREAT INFO! One of the better mastering compression guides I've seen yet!
One question: I noticed on all the compressors u have the input gain set @ about +3-4 db, no matter which track you're working with, why is this? I ask because I've been getting into the nitty gritty of compression builds and noticed that many com0pressors are set to the -18dbfs sweet spot that gives them their best qualities, so I set my tracks to hit them at that volume. Your mixdown tracks I'm eyeballing at around -9 db, so you're gaining 3 db back for the compressor input, is this by design?
Anyways, big thanks, very good info here on the simple basics.

Hi Caleb and Blake and Dane!
Just got your email for this vid tonight.
This is my very first learning of getting familiarized with what compression, is, and result's as sounding.
Glue, whole total mix, as I now define is my reverb measure.
May I ask if you can more specifically define, "transients?" Breathe clarity and glue are the adjectives you're using that I understand moreso right now. That's the point of utilizing compression for it's final result?
Ahhh, I can add this: you guys are in Manhattan where super markets are anathema. I lived there once. But I made a sound observation in the rest of the country's chain store Whole Foods where they both, turn it up a little more and chose a bit more alternative or otherwise contemporary song choices. And what my mixing ear heard there that I have started noticeably utilizing in my own Covid Time CD release Tonight She and the songs I'm doing now called, 2022 Missing Link Us, CD More Pressing, is the mixed level of the drums. I noticed drum mixes at Whole Foods and what characteristic to my ear, made them professional, that the drums are, "on top." Put your drums on top is what I'm telling you, that's my opinion. As everyone has opinion and that's one I recently heard at CA Whole Foods.
So if anyone hears that in my songs currently, it's intentional.
Generally for any and all, a good way to train an ear is to LISTEN TO THE BASS only. This improves any listening ear.
If a Compression Unit is mostly or all as what defines or comprises, mastering I'm glad here to be getting familiar with this skill and technique.
I'd rather have a record company doing it for my songs instead but since I'm desiring in being signed it's good to learn a little or more about mastering.
My job is to write a song that you hear tonight that you'll be humming when you wake in the morning.
    "You had one job."
    More later I guess.
Thank you for the invite to this video and TH-cam channel.

Just discovered your channel and just getting into mastering. Compression on mastering was something that always raised question marks in my head, so thanks for explaining the mindset for using it on a master, explaining all the possible scenarios for using different settings. I'd also like to point that you have a Bob Ross type calming sound lol
