I love exploring old houses like that. You can get the ownership history by searching the tax records. These days you can find them online. All you need is the address. Give that a try and let me know how that turns out. You can also get sale info on zillow.com, realtor.com, etc. They won't provide owner names but sale dates and assessment info.

      Me too.
Real urbex-ers will not vandalize or take anything away but pictures. Theres nothing more annoying than planning out an exploration, getting in to a cool old building and there is stupid badly done tags and graffiti all over ruining the place and things broken just to break them, nevermind the walls and ceiling torn to pieces so junkies can get at the copper wire (fun fact: thats where "junkie" came, drug addicts stealing copper & other metals from junked houses and cars for drug money). Vandals and thieves ruin it for the rest of us who love documenting the places humanity left behind.

It *really* depends on where you live. Like Im from Seattle. This city has changed so much in 10 years, youre lucky if you can find anything abandoned that stands for a month nowdays before being torn down-the property values are way too high. And when you do find them, theres usu squatters to contend with. But I go to rural areas. Found a cool house in Aberdeen last year, looked abandoned for a few years, not updated since the 80s. The copper thieves had been at it, but other than that it was in decent shape.
I lived in Pittsburgh for about a year in 2000. That place (at the time) was an urbexers dream city. Seriously, there was crazy abandoned shit everywhere.

    • @lottatroublemaker6130
      @lottatroublemaker6130 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I think there are exceptions re. moving furniture. Have seen fantastic pieces stand in rooms where windows have been broken or something like that, exposing them to the elements, while other things in the house are in great condition. Then I think the ethical thing is to carefully move it into the closest room where you can close the door, so that it won't be exposed to the elements anymore. I don't think there is much respect in letting something become ruined...

Having grown up in the 70's and 80's I'm guessing that this house was built in the mid to late 70's and was abandoned in the early 80's. Probably 81 or so. I would love it if u kept the camera rolling, for the most part, inside the houses u explore. I love seeing how the rooms are all connected and how the house is layed out. Obviously u can't do that with really big buildings like old factories and stuff. Just the houses. U have a fantastic eye and are really good at this. Thanks for sharing!

It's all about maintaining an appearance of belonging. It is quite possible to exploit many transitional homes and commercial properties in 2020 America. The big banks have kicked most of rules to the curb and most regular citizens are scared to death to take on these brain frozen asswipes that are susposed to be representing the interests of the bank and its stock holders . ...The number of people living in homes like this one and being paid to manage a bunch more without paying a nickel for everything it needs would make a lot of people out there who lost homes ready to handle their dealings with their note holders a lot differently....

  • @thereeldeelpickella2423

One thing's for sure... character and charm abounds in this house. The yellow and pink tile in one of the bathrooms, that ceiling medallion, ceiling mural, ceiling plaster work and detail, the bar, kitchen, dining area, sun-room, small indoor pool, yellow floral wallpaper, woodwork, build-ins, etc. Someone must have been into Victorian stuff, because of the detailing of the ceiling medallion, mural and plaster work. Somehow, they made it work within the Mid-Century Modern mansion. I can just picture it in the theater of my mind... I'm guessing that it was quite a showpiece back in the day, buzzing with its parties and stuff. Kudos.

Definitely has a 70's look. Parker, take it from someone who lived through every day of the 1970's ( I went from elementary school into college classes during that span of time.): you didn't miss much! Odd mix of styles here. Plenty of money but not much taste. This place was tacky even for the 70's though the kitchen isn't bad even now. A well-done explore and I hope we'll see more of that other abandoned house that was nearby.

LOL! My thoughts exactly! No doubt re the time here either, definitely 70's! There was one thing that shocked me though, the ceramic cooktop, I did not know they were around that early, I had to look it up now to be sure. I mean, the edge of it, the knobs etc looked 70's, but the top looked more like 90's... Never saw one in Europe back then, most likely they thought they wouldn't sell much in a small country like ours(I'm in Norway). I'm sure most people in the US didn't get them either, since they were expensive. The electrical coil ones or gas did the trick at much lower prices. Luckily it finally changed, I do not miss cleaning the old type stove/cooktop, that is for sure!😄

Sometimes I wonder if it was a tornado that hit some of these places. I think the glass was. No graffiti, but broken glass. The copper theives have been there though. When you first approach the house by the pool, you can see the roofing is jagged, that is a wind indicator. Plus, large trees down. I do disaster damage surveying for the American Red Cross, and I see some tell tale signs of very high winds.I did some large hurricanes too. So many, many houses. So much material possessions reduced to trash. It's mind boggling to stand in a neighborhood after a disaster and take in the sheer amount of waste. Stuff that was worth money, now trash being shoved around by a bulldozer. Like this once gorgeous house.Excellent video! Thanks for sharing!Stay safe!

Always fascinated by how the well-to-do styled their homes and lived in bygone decades. 1970's styles particularly interesting, since so much "technology" was coming into homes and impacting the form of the designs. Same with television shows from the 1950's, 1960's,and 1970's, love seeing how people interact with their surroundings and just...lived. telephones, light switches, doors, appliances. Feels like time travel when you allow it to envelop you.

In watching this video, and through life experience, I would say that this house was built from the mid to late 1960's (1963-1969). The giveaways on this guess are the purple carpet, the location of the bar to the outside pool and the conflicting architectural styling which was quite common for that period, and the type of ovens installed in the kitchen. I believe abandonment occurred between 1988 and 1992. The giveaways for this guess are the installation of a low flush toilet and its color and the age of the dishwashers in the kitchen. As for what happened, I believe the builder had money but his kids did not. I think the kids did try to keep it up for awhile (as shown through the installation of some new fixtures and appliances) but either the parents died and the estate went into limbo, or the money just ran out. To find out more you could go to the municipal tax office and investigate the property starting from 1963 and continue to follow it until it goes into arrears. These records are generally public depending on the rules of your state or county.

I immediately got the 60's feel from the kitchen since it was designed (tho large and elaborate) like my aunt's retro kitchen that was untouched after the house was built in the 60's. I would love to have him look up the property details and update the video details as yet another "left to rot" collapse of a home in a nation full of homeless. :(

That house was definitely occupied in the late 80's, to the early 90's. The dried eucalyptus country looking wall decor piece that's shown was from the late 80's-early 90's era. I know because I had some of those. As you're stating some of those appliances are not as old as the house. I would absolutely love to have a house frozen in the 70's that could be restored. I would have loved to have had the abandoned mansion with the Playboy pool where you'd swim to your bedroom. That place has been demolished, but videos exist while it was still standing. Why do people do this? These charmers were restorable at one point. When they're this far gone, they're just waiting for the bulldozer....

once again ,marvellous and entertaining film, not every home is to please other people ,like it or hate it a family lived ,loved and enjoyed their life here ,they loved nature as was reflected in their wall coverings, and hand painted mural, that's the impression I get others may see it different, like the shameful people that entered this home ,not to look ,not to admire ,but damage it and abuse it.

Albert and Therese Turner originally built this house. I was just doing some research on this property a few weeks ago. He was a prominent developer in the Prince Georges/Washington DC area. When I was a kid it was a huge farm. Here's some background on their lives. Sorry about the length.
Albert W. Turner, a native of Hyattsville, Maryland, built his first 75 single-family homes before World War II at the age of 21. After serving three years in the military with the Navy “Seabees”, he returned home and built an additional 125 homes in Montgomery Countyand Prince George’s Counties, Maryland. TheCEteamMr. Turner created MCD Enterprises in 1949 to develop premier residential communities, such as: North College Park, Lewis Heights, The City of New Carrollton, Kettering, Calverton, Enterprise Estates, and Kingsford in Prince George’s County; Olney Mill in Montgomery County; Prospect Plantation in Queen Anne County; and several small developments in Howard and Anne Arundel Counties. MCD Enterprises was sold in 1981 to the Oppenheimer Group, New York City.
The residential communities built by MCD Enterprises created a need for nearby shopping and neighborhood centers. Carrollton Enterprises, created in 1957, began building shopping centers to support neighborhood growth and economic development and is the developer, owner and manager of eight shopping centers, totaling over 1,250,000 square feet of retail space and approximately 210,000 square feet of Class A office building space.
Albert Turner is a recognized leader in community development. His vision of planned communities with supporting neighborhood shopping, recreation space and adequate infrastructure, has guided the Maryland suburbs of Washington,D.C., into one of the foremost sought after areas to live in the country. Mr. Turner’s commitment to “Livable Communities” is evident throughout his life, as demonstrated repeatedly by his achievements, support of community organizations and numerous board appointments.
His community service includes acting as the first Mayor of The City of New Carrollton, member of the Board of Directors for Citizens Bank of Maryland (now SunTrust Bank), Prince George’s County Tourism Council, Suburban Maryland Home Builders Association and Washington Metropolitan Homebuilders Association, Hyattsville Lions Club, Maryland Higher Education Commission, the University of Maryland Board of Regents, Prince George’s County United Way and the Southern Maryland Heart Association.
When it comes to retail, Carrollton Enterprises is committed to a partnership with citizens, businesses and Prince George’s County police officers to provide security for our shopping centers. It has developed a security system that uses a combination of three specific resources; mobile and foot security patrols, enhanced lighting and twenty-four hour visual surveillance technology creating a safe environment for our shoppers and tenants.

Thanks for sharing your video. I have to agree that it looks very 70's with some 80's features as well. My home was built in 78 and I really enjoy the unique features that stayed with the house over the years. Some of those features include the sunk-in living room, swag lights in two bathrooms, cedar wood paneling, vintage fireplace and vintage brown patterned shower tile. Most folks, when buying an older home, are ready to gut out the vintage look but I prefer the nostalgic charm. It shows character.

No bedrooms?? Even if you think they are boring, it shows you explored the whole thing. And sometimes the viewer sees things you don't, or at least we can give you information on things if you show them.
BTW- 99% of the time a toilet tank (the part at your back) will have a date stamp inside. I've seen them dated back to 1930.

The style is mid century Hollywood Regency which was very ornate. the purple carpet is very much of the Hollywood Regency style. the mouldings on the walls are also very indicative of Hollywood Regency style, as are the harlequin shaped window panes. 1970s era, you know they were pretty nonchalant about throwing around the espestice back then . Wherever you do these things I hope you're taking along some breathing protection! That plus hepatitis B can be transmitted through the air via fecal matter left in toilets, looks to me that place has been squatted in by a whole bunch of bums over the past 40 years . I would worry about the asbestos, especially with all the damage to walls, etc... where insulation and other barriers are supposed to be. I also worry about the sharp things sticking up from all the broken objects, but of course I worry more now as I get near 50. When I was 20 yeas old I would be all over the abandoned stuff, and probably would have my own channel and crazy videos, etc...

I'd think about lead (before 1978) but if you're not moving stuff, it shouldn't matter. And mold. Lots of mold. Black mold.
Armstrong flooring told me they used asbestos in their tile up until 1984 or so...
