The first video of 2025 and my second real attempt at going in the direction my channel was originally meant to go. Hopefully whoever watches this video enjoys it. Let's see how this goes...

The irony of Arcane trying not to stay longer than they should... is that they ended sooner than they should. This story should have been a 3 season story. It needed to breath a bit more.

The way season 2 is structured it wouldn't work if it was extended in 2 seasons. I see two ways for an extended version to work.
      A) They make each Act 6 episodes long to give the story the time it needs to breathe and expand on everything. They release one Act per year starting in 2023 and ending in 2025. With this we would have just gotten a bigger Act 2 that would have ended with the death of Isha and Vander.
      B) Alternatively they would simply expand the episodes we got with the extra dialogue, extended scenes, connecting scenes and extra scenes needed to make the story flow better. Give each episode as much time as it needs. Some might only need 5-10 minutes (Act I episodes don't need that much) and others would need a lot more (the last episodes would have to be much longer considering their content).

It could've worked as a 2 season story if it simply continued the story of season 1, without overreaching with trying to tie it together with future noxian story (mel's magical powers+blackrose)
and the sappy story about forgiveness and not inventing hextech supposedly solving every issue in the world

I have quipped that the bulk of Arcane Season 2 criticisms are that it ends (an ironic observation, given this video!). While there were a few skimmed bits (Viktor's turn to the dark side, no hint of Maddie's, how the Zaunites rallied, the Black Rose angle), the biggest problem was that there's no character resolution for people like Mel and Ekko at the end. It would have only needed 5 minutes, but they're just... left. I don't think an extra season was needed for this. 3x 4 part acts would have more than sufficed (although, again, we run into costs)

@moonmoon2479 I think S2 writing was good except for some side characters you just need to give it more thought and time to process. Compared to S1 it had more of "show, don't tell" that's probably why some people didn't like it

You raise pretty good points in your video. The sense I get with Season 2 is that so much story was cut out due to business decisions. This is most apparent with whatever happened between Jinx and Ekko after Ekko saved her, but it's also apparent with Caitlyn's dictator arc and Vi's pit-fighter arc. More time given to these storylines would have made Season 2...a season I still enjoyed...better.

I have watched a lot of videos on Arcane and I mean it when I say this is one of the best. I appreciate you actually considering the difficult realistic part of them choosing to stick to only two seasons but yet still pointing out how it's a good thing while many people whine (the same people who would definitely hate the next seasons and say this was the peak). Most people obviously will just review the show which is fine but this was a much more interesting topic. I'm also glad you're not being overly negative or positive with no real depth. This video was very well made and I hope more people who watched the show will give it a look

"while many people whine (the same people who would definitely hate the next seasons and say this was the peak"
No. The story was rushed. And it needed more time for its character arcs and plotlines to breathe. The reason there's two seasons is because the creators wanted the story over and done with and move on to their next spinoff projects. The story really needed three seasons, not two. The only reason why people enjoyed the season as much as they did, is because of the pretty animation and the spectacular music. But the writing very much fell short, so much so the animation and the music had to make up for it, and it very clearly shows.
Don't try to gaslight me into thinking the show's not worth "whining" about. The season made mistakes. If you keep wearing rose-tinted glasses and excuse those flaws, the creators will carry those mistakes into their future projects. It wont work because the new show wont have Arcane's season 1 character writing to get us to care about their new characters.
You're not doing them any favours defending their mistakes.

@@chrishaven1489 Sorry in advance for my long comment.
I already said I'm glad this video isn't "positive without any depth" because I understand the show isn't flawless. What you don't understand however is that it doesn't make it bad or a failure, especially not when it's overall highly rated. You can attribute those high ratings to whatever you want.
Not sure if you watched this video fully or not, but the point of it is that they planned for 2 seasons, and they did just that in spite of what people demanded. That is definitely something that needs to be done more often. Everyone loved The Mandalorian's first 2 seasons, but then now they're saying it fell off in season 3. Not saying they're wrong, but I'm saying it's proof that sometimes it's best to walk away from the table with your dignity still intact.
I don't think it's occurred to many of you that you might be expecting more from Riot than they could actually give you. Many times shows are good with starting out, but not concluding. If they did 3 seasons, maybe it would have been better fleshed out in season 2, I get that, but that doesn't mean season 3 wouldn't have still been a problem, and the ending could have turned out even worse. Game of Thrones is proof of how even with a 8 seasons the ending can still end up rushed. Walking Dead's fandom has made their thoughts on that conclusion known and it had 11 seasons. House of the Dragon season 2 is getting critiqued.. Squid Game season 2 is catching a lot of slack too. All these shows have more than 2 seasons already or will, yet that's not saving them from the heat. So more seasons isn't always the answer.
Riot already won with Arcane. We can critique them so they understand what we think can be improved, but I'm not going to throw tomatoes at them when they still produced a video game show that was a great effort overall.
You can say this and that about how the show resolved, but the response to the trailer they just released speaks for itself. If you want to convince yourself that's because of "rose-tinted glasses" because you don't agree, I can't do much about that

@@emily-chan3848I 100% agree with u. And even with the flaws I still find arcane beautiful.. I even loved season 2. I got emotionally attached to the characters. And while some characters may have had poor writing, I feel like jinx had an amazing arc with great writing. I think that’s what got me hooked to the second season because I loved seeing jinx’s story. I know that a lot of others like it too. It’s flawed but beautiful.. and not just because of the animation..

    • @chrishaven1489
      @chrishaven1489 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

@@emily-chan3848 "You can attribute those high ratings to whatever you want."
I attribute it to the fantastic animation and music that very much carried the writing of this season. And the reason why people care about the characters is because of how they were written in the first season. They're not gonna have that advantage in the next project. If they handle their new characters the same way they handled their old ones in the second season, their new show is gonna blow up in their face.
You're listing all these bad shows and conveniently omitting shows that do work with more than two seasons. Like Breaking Bad. You think that show would work as well as it did if it had only 2-3 seasons to work with. The reason why Breaking Bad works is because the show had time to accommodate the arcs and transformations the characters go through. If Breaking Bad only had 2-3 seasons, Walter White's transformation would've been rushed and unrealistic. That's the problem with Arcane's second season.
Their character arcs went through 2 seasons worth of character development in a single season, as a result a lot of vital beats were missing from a lot of character arcs.
If Arcane's story worked with 2 seasons, I'd be happy for it to have 2 seasons. But it didn't work. They rushed through important character beats and developments, characters made off-character,180 decisions, and they abandoned the grounded, nuanced themes of the first season to make way for a shallow final battle you'd expect from an mcu movie.
But dont worry, it looks and sounds so pretty. I'm sure that shallow writing will help audiences care about their new batch of characters.
"So more seasons isn't always the answer."
The answer is how many seasons it takes to tell the story right. 2 seasons is very clearly not the number for Arcane. Rushing a story that needed more time is just as bad as stretching it out when you don't know how to end the story. Shows aren't better the fewer seasons they have, and the reverse isn't true either. That's not how stories work.
      "Riot already won with Arcane"
No, it didn't win. The second season was worse than the first. What makes you think the trajectory of their future projects won't continue that downward trend? What makes you think the first season might not actually be just lightning in a bottle? An isolated incident, not to be repeated again? By all accounts a lot of the writers who worked on the first season were let go. There's a pattern there.
But here you are, saying Riot already won. Congratulations. People like you are giving them license to ignore the flaws of the second season and carry those flaws onto their next projects. Because not enough people are calling them out on their faults. Because "they've already won", apparently. Let's see if that attitude works out for their next spinoff series.
Like I said, you're not doing them any favours defending them

So well stated--the financial and artistic decisions both made a two season story the only possible valid call -- though I've heard some say they'd have preferred lesser animation and more episodes. To which I say, how can you even live on the same planet as me?
In any case, story length isn't something you can easily change after four-plus years of development...probably the biggest problem with The Hobbit movies was the decision to stretch the story out after years of working on a two-movie adaptation. It's why the first one felt cohesive, at least, while the second and third...had moments.

Arcane season 2 should've been 4 acts to truly conclude it without it feeling rushed. This way it truly wrapped up well. Going from 9 to 12 episodes would've been more than enough. This way it wouldn't feel like it had gaps.
Another lesson i'd say for them, is don't change characters entirely to where we barely recognize them. Tweaking i understand, but they completely changed Viktor and it was a hit or miss situation. The lore is there for a reason, and i believe creators will thrive more if they follow it closely. Not just with league, but with any series

@@Vario69Definitely. I really do think there are easier ways to make the story feel deeper and have more of those character beats we needed. Little scenes can even slightly resolve the story better than it already did. I’ll give some examples:
Vi’s brash decision to join the enforcers both in the first episode and episodes 2-3. In episode 1 we could’ve been recapped in a scene where it focuses on Vi’s mind and regrets for helping Jinx all this time, therefore making a much more resolving piece of character growth to switch sides. In episode 2 and 3 we could’ve seen Vi’s struggles and concerns for Caitlyn’s questionable decisions of “gassing” Vi’s home. Without it, it feels too rushed for her character to do.
Also things like Ekko and Jinx preparing for war (resolving Jinx’s hero arc that was never shown on screen). I easily think that this season could’ve been so much better with even the smallest scenes

Not that I can talk from a logistical creative standpoint, mind you; I wasn’t there. And even telling the same story and making it too long might not work. But… I dunno; did we really need LeBlanc and the Black Rose? Could they have maybe been held off until after the Piltover/Zaun conflict? Or other stuff…? Really, I can’t say for sure; I do believe that every end point in the series is the correct decision, even if I feel that the getting there wasn’t as fleshed out as I would have liked.

Do you know what would make Arcane really profitable? Extended versions of its two seasons in Blue-Ray. Season 1 is as perfect as a show can be but adding a few minutes on every episode wouldn't hurt. Sell the Blue-Ray with these extra scenes and people would buy it. Season 2 on the other hand NEEDS an extended version since it felt like a more extreme case of the Lord of the Rings theatrical editions. People would buy that like crazy. Riot lacks vision. I don't know what kind of deal it would require but Netflix would get its show and Riot would have a way to make direct profits regardless streaming. I don't get how trash like Rebel Moon and the Hobbit get extended cuts but Arcane doesn't.

    • @Arakus99
      @Arakus99 วันที่ผ่านมา

Most live action extended cuts use things that were already filmed and cut from the movie, but due to the way animation production works, with all editing taking place at the storyboard stage with very few exceptions, there aren’t really any finished scenes on the cutting room floor - they’d have to be animated just for this release, which would cost millions (far more than most extended editions)
It just doesn’t really make financial sense

@Arakus99 Of course they would need extra budget for that. Besides, have you considered how much stuff they shot and how much expensive VFX was in the extended versions of the movies I mentioned? Some productions do this in advance.
