Beautiful car. My folks bought a 59 Olds Super 88. It was a great car, but the Pontiac’s always looked better to me. The 1960 was one of the most beautiful.
Hi Edsmaureen, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and it brings back memories of your Folks car too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My mother had a 1960 Ventura . I will never forget this car. I noticed that when you backed it up the reverse gear was at the BOTTOM of the column. Wow. My mom passed last November and this really makes me miss her all that much more. Thank you for the super cool video.

Lou...Thanks very much for posting this...brings back vivid memories... I was 12 yrs old in 1960, when my folks decided to splurge and bought a brand new '60 Bonny Convertible the color was golden palomino tan, and the 3 mind blowing options that came with it, were power windows, 6-way power front bench seating, and the piece de resistance..Air Conditioning in a convertible!, all pretty much unheard of for the time...you can imagine how stunning it looked sitting in the driveway...stayed in the family for about 15 years...thanks again.....
daniel lack thanks, we got a 59 DODGE STATION WAGON, NO a/c,9 PASSENGER ( we had 5 KIDS in Family) about then, got my Drivers License in it, & worried about Dating with Station Wagon! Luckily, my Dad found 54 Ford, with 57 V8 ENGINE,4 bbl& DUAL EXHAUSTS, ETC. SOON,...
Instead of a pacifier, I teethed myself with the dashboard of my Grandparent's 1960 Bonneville, lol. Theirs was blue. Years later, you could see my spot, lol. I've been over 115 in Granddad's '60 a few times when he would "blow out the carbon," lol. Beautiful car!! He had a '59 too.
I had a 60 flat top Bonneville I bought for 300 dollars when I was 16 in high school. It was the E420 with tri power and got 6 mpg on ethyl gas which cost 25 cents a gallon in 1971. You could fill the 23 gallon tank for five dollars, and I did that 3 times a week when I was making 42 dollars working for minimum wage. It had the same 8 spoke wheels and did 0 to 60 under 10 seconds. I swear you could see the gas gauge move when you did that. Of all the cars I have had over the years, that is the one I miss the most. Good times...Ken

I was and still am a Ford fan, but in the 60s, Pontiac was my 2nd favorite! This '60 Bonneville is a true beauty and offered luxury and performance at a good price. To this day, I can't believe my father bought a new Dodge Matador in 1960, which was their top of the line. My father never liked that car! I don't know if he even considered a Pontiac Bonneville. The Dodge and the Pontiac were probably comparably priced. Pontiac was the only GM marque my father never had. Don't know why but it's OK dad! I forgive you!

My parents bought this Bonneville in 1960 in the same exterior and interior colors, only the 4-door Vista with a white top. Thank God they had enough sense to buy air conditioning! Most amazing part about this car compared to the other GM's of that year was the huge trunk. Look at the 1960 Buick trunk, particularly--it's a bad, bad joke. I spent many hours in this beautiful Pontiac traveling the country...
In 1967 I bought a 60 Bonneville convertible with that tri red interior and a white exterior. No eight lug wheels. Never forgot it. I pushed it passed a 120 mph and heard a loud bang, figured a blow out until I realized I blew a seam out on the top. Another scary day.
Everyone has there car that speaks to them. One of Mine was the '59 Pontiac that I just love the lines and the dash Not that I am older than Joe here But I never got to go to car shows and we never had new cars so by the time I was 9 in 1971 we were getting these cars as used. Loved the lines on the 1959 Pontiac. I actually hugged the car and cried like a baby when dad sold it for $25 to a young guy in the neighborhood. But I did get to go with him to the FORD dealer to pick out our used 1968 Country Sedan which we had for 6 years.
Designed by Pontiac Chief Designer Stylist Paul Gillan, including the one year only Pontiac crest emblem. Harley Earl designed the windshield for the 1959-60 Cadillac, which was shared with all five GM car divisions.
Hey Lou, I had to come back and take a look once again at this ‘60 Bonnie. This car collection is right up my alley with the Oldsmobile and the Bonnevilles.
Wow, What a truly awesome beautiful car. My family lived in SW Virginia in 1960. My oldest brother lived in Maryland. He came to visit in Va. He bought a new 1960 Bonneville just like this car. It was the same color. But I keep thinking it may have had a blacktop. My brother broth the car back to Maryland. I never saw it again. It always stood out in my mind. (I was about 4 or 5 years old.) Great video thanks for sharing.
I bought a '60 Bonneville in early 1966. A Stardust yellow convertible. What a beautiful car. Raced it out on Long island NY and won a few trophies in the H/SA class...Sold it at the end of 1967 to buy an engagement ring for my future wife when I got drafted into the army. But I sure do wish I had that Bonneville back again LOL....

@@loucostabile Thank you, Lou, that was a cruise down memory lane. His was a black hardtop, and cool. Eventually, I believe, the Starfire evolved into the 442. As a matter of fact, my favorite car was my 1968 GTO, 400 big block, 3 speed manual. Very fast. The only downside was on the Interstate..3 feet to the gallon! I jest..sorta. So, again, thanks.
This car came from the John Stalupi "Cars of Dreams" Museum in Miami, Florida... Stalupi usually buys his Classic Cars for the last 20 years at Barrett-Jackson auctions...It's most likely where this car came from before it went to the "Cars of Dreams" museum. A very nice ride! Tony K.

It's unusual for a Bonneville to have manual windows. It has the bucket seat option. You should have pointed out where the hood release is. I had a 60 Bonneville 2-door HT many years ago. An elderly lady in the neighborhood gave it to me. It ran like a clock. I hit a rock in the driveway and cracked the exhaust manifold. Eventually I junked the car, but saved the flicker wheelcovers. They still hang in the garage. It was no cream puff, but it ran well and the price was right.

Thanks for your reply. I've been watching a lot of your videos in the past few days and always enjoy them. I'm a stickler for detail and can't help but comment on flaws when I see them but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the cars and your presentations. Do you know how to open the hood on a 60 Pontiac? :-) the owner should have pointed that out.
I had 2 60 Bonneville 2dr hard tops , one white and one 2 tone green. Neither of mine had power windows or bucket seats but they both had an option this one doesnt.....the backseat fold down center armrest .it makes the interior look much better. I'm surprised this convertible didn't have one since it had the bucket seats. What a beautiful ride !!!
Those styling creases in the body increase the rigidity of the panel in critical areas, essentially work hardening the metal to impart increased strength where it is needed most. The three tone red interior becomes four tone just as soon as the owner takes his seat, but that jersey clashes with the more subdued hues of the interior. It's so important to dress appropriately when driving these cars, especially with the hood down.
HI Andrew Graham, I have styling point just for you. I see many Owners at car shows "dress the part" to match the time period of there car. It's cool. However I recall the first time my 16 year old daughter took a ride in my Dodge Viper and pulled down the sun visor looking for a mirror on the other side of it and found none. She said, Dad, there is no mirror here to see how I look!", and I replied, "Do you know why?, She said, "Why?" and I replied because you always look good when you're driving in a Viper :-) Lou

Yes it was at least on GM products. However Chrysler products didn't work that way before they went to push buttons in 1956. They had R and D separated by N. That was later made a federal safety requirement and all modern vehicles are built this way.

@@loucostabile 1960 didn't have the trademark split grille, but it still had the wide track. I liked the look. The 1960 Pontiac brochure showed a profile of the front from the right fender and it said, "From a fresh point of view", the point being the shark nose hood with the letters PONTIAC across and the T on the point. BTW, love the color Coronado Red.

She said, Dad, there is no mirror here to see how I look!", and I replied, "Do you know why?, She said, "Why?" and I replied because you always look good when you're driving in a Viper :-) Lou
Do you sometimes drive with the hood up?
It's not that important . It's more important not to drive with the hood up. 😀😀😀😀😀
Very nice motor and engine compartment.
Hi, Agreed. You have a great eye for details, Lou
Like he says GM convertibles were heaven in those years. The 2 dr htps and some other body styles were too.
Hi Bruce, Happy to read this one is "heaven" :-) Lou
That's a gorgeous car. Thanks for sharing that Lou. :)

Compared to today, look at the 1960 Pontiac Bonneville vs the 1960 Buick Electra 225, different cars, different bodies etc....

Do these people reach out to you Lou about the cars they have ?
Hi Seth, It works both ways. Sometimes I meet them at a car show, and sometimes they reach out to me, Lou
Another convertible you didn’t help with. I know thanks for watching.
Hi bluwng, :-) Lou
I've always thought that the 60 Ponchos were the most unique of the 1960 GM lineup.... And the ragtops look like regular aircraft carriers when the top is down! Wow!
.
Hi Slick Andrews, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Happy to receive a 'Wow!" from you, Lou
Just for your information someone has placed the passenger side valve cover on backwards.

very similar to the Oldsmobile design cues for that era
Thank you for sharing.
Beyond believe... Marvelous...
High praise :-)
Was it common back then to have reverse all the way down past low gear like that?
Yes it was at least on GM products. However Chrysler products didn't work that way before they went to push buttons in 1956. They had R and D separated by N. That was later made a federal safety requirement and all modern vehicles are built this way.
Yes.
nice.😀👏
:-)
Beautiful car! Thanks for showing us. Please give us more! ✌️(SUB’D)
Hi Major Payne, Thank you for the tip, and glad you enjoy this one :-) Lou
I'm always eager to view the rear of these beauties... After 60 the fins really reduced in size which was a shame.

Had one in 1968, rubber hose break line broke above the rear end. Only a single stage master cylinder no breaks, I went through a red light busy intersection. I never trusted that car afterwards and sold it. Beware
Hi Mike Swert, Thank you viewing and sharing your story, and for sharing a tip, Lou

the 59 and the 60 had the same body style.

Let the Pontiac Catalina
:-)
With a couple of champagne drinking, half-lit, half-whit, blonds in the back and you'll be set.
:-)
I love those old Ponchos, 1960 had a lousy look compared to the 1959 and 1961. That year designers must have been hitting the whiskey a little heavy.
Glad you like this one. Hitting the whiskey, that's funny :-)
I think they look much better than the 61s.
The carbon footprint of that thing must be horrendous
less than prius
Elon Musk is going to fix all that. Just as soon as he stops smoking meth
:-0
Until you drive a wide track, you have not driven a car.
Thank you for viewing and sharing that tip ron5935. I'll see if I can get that chance :-) Lou
thats a chick magnet
And a Car Guy magnet too :-)
Y do people put ww on cars of the 60s they didn't come with wide white walls they came with 2 in r 1.6 ww stop it, it looks like crap
I guess some people like them.
