Hope the Flex people are watching... When shopping for my SDR and I realized this kind of BS was required in order to do whatever I may want or need with my radio I eliminated Flex from the running due to this very issue. I am not kidding one bit, this single intentional hurdle thrown in the way prevented me from buying from them... And I am perfectly capable of making any firmware change like this needed as a 22 year IT professional... I was strongly leaning toward Flex until I discovered this during my pre purchase research... Instead I purchased an Apache Labs ANAN 8000DLE where it is as simple as picking "Extended" from the geographical region\country drop down during software install!

Exactly!!! 😂 that’s why I got the apache too. But I have a MARS license, I wonder if it will work on 11m with the board and TURF file?

I love my Flex. I have been with them since the 5000A and I owned 3 of them. 2 6300s and a 6500. Now I am on to the 6400. But the Yaesu FT -710 has 2 secret button sequences. Number 1, You can press and hold 2 buttons and make the radio transmit 4 Khz wide. Number 2, You can temporarily mars mod it open including 11 meters by holding in 2 buttons and turning the radio on. With both of these temp mods, the mods will stay in place until you shut the radio off. Now, being a Flex guy I must say that the FT-710 has the best receiver I have ever owned including all my Flexes. But the big 3 just can't touch the Flex when it comes to updating firmware and going remote. I can be on the other side of the world and I can log into my Flex 6400 as long as I have an internet connection.. The big 3 will get there I am sure of it but, Flex will stay far ahead and when they do get there there is no way they will update the firmware like Flex does. And, being that I have owned many Flex radios, I still say, The Flex 5000A was and still is the best radio Flex made... and, with Darren's help, the 5000A will be around a long time. I would love to hear your comments and your opinions about the 5000a being the best Flex. Also, Power SDR Vs Smart SDR. Your thoughts.. 73..

One important part is missing. Where did you get the updated MARS capable firmware?

None of the rig makers make easy and readiy the expanded freq tx of their products. Reasons are obvious. But enterprising hams/others WILL make it so!!! Maybe we can thank the makers?? Or curse them?? But expanded coverage enables simple tempting operation outside legal bands. ENJOY! Just be responsible (if just being morally responsible)!

Why make it a monkey-dance and showing something with no available software? If extended capabilities are desired, and part of the radio selection process, Icom's radios may be the easiest, Yaesu second, flex is at the bottom of the list since it requires kissing someone's butt for an SD card

You know if you actually talked and let people who are not familiar with flex radio what you are doing that would be great. Watched about 1/3 of this and haven;t a clue what to you were doing or what to watch for. Complete waste of my time.

No narration. You should always narrate your videos, especially technical ones.

Where do you get the new firmware?

I am thinking a cloned SD card with firmware that was already open for MARS from another 6400..

I Agree. Without the Turf file since I believe it is associated with the radio serial number it's not going to happen. However I must say flex is the ONLY radio you can't modify and is a dealbreaker for many.
