First patches with the Synthesis Technology E520 Hyperion Effects Processor // Lush Eurorack FX

- Here’s the final released version of the E520 Hyperion Effects Processor from Synthesis Technology. It’s been great to explore this and film my first patches playing with the release version after initially exploring an earlier prototype (links to that below). This video looks at 7 algorithms exploring different patches and some of what the E520 offers. Future videos will explore the algorithms in detail in my usual ‘deep dive’ style looking at the time based and spectral based effects. Check the links for more info and feel free to ask any questions as they may inform the future videos.

Sounds pretty fantastic. I'd love to see the deep dive specifically cover the delays, as I'm curious about how this compares to my Rainmaker in that respect.
It's not a Rainmaker in the Logic Delay Designer style of individual filtering, level, feedback points, pitch shifting etc of individual taps. But there's definitely some nice delays in there, some in this video.
For the future we're planning a look at time based FX as one deep dive and then a deep dive on the spectral FX too.

they won't be many more made (last few) as Synthesis Technology is closing up in the new year. It's a powerful FX module, too large a HP for a lot of people I think.

Can I ask how do these digital modules handle feedback patching or Serge type ideas? I have always used simpler analog modules together in large chains but recently have been thinking about adding a few digital elements to bring in some presets and hopefully create additional variation for longer, fuller live shows. Thoughts? I would prefer to not change my thought process on things too much to incorporate them since that’s part of the overall narrative and if it’s just end of the chain line out fx that’s not going to do what I’m looking for. I am afraid this endeavor is just going to require a 2nd case and some panning/cue work but maybe not.
Are the onboard filtres pre or post fx? Can you choose between the two? Thanks,,
Shout out to Mr. Paul Schreiber! He spent over an hour on the phone with me helping to troubleshoot my with E370. Had the honor of discussing history and tech with him. He said he was about to send a unit to DivKid and here it is!

Wow. I'm impressed by Synthesis Tech's builds-- and I love my E352. This looks pretty awesome, though I think it takes up more space than I currently want to devote in my rack to effects. Would be curious to know though, does it have comb filtering? How many stages of effects can it support? Such as pitch-bend into distortion into delay, etc...
* The Diffusion Flanger algorithm and Dual-Mono Flanger sub-algorithm will do comb filters.
* Two stages of sub-algorithms are supported in the chain mode of the Dual Mono algorithm which also provides modulated delay, pitch shift, filtering, distortion, etc.
some algos are clocked right?
is there a limit for the clock?
so could it set to 999 or 0?
it likes to be clocked with quarter notes. I haven't tried to push the sync input from really slow to really fast. There's multipliers/dividers for the sync in on some algorithms.
I was able to grab a second hand e520 but there's some algorithm that I can't wrap my head around. I've been looking for those in depth videos you mention about the spectral and time based effects, but can't find them, did they ever come out? If so, can you point me in the right direction, please?

this was the final video on it, we did speak about doing more but never came to any arrangement about it and time just got away really.

can it pipeline more than one effect at a time?
more recent firmware did some combo FX. synthtech.com will have the info on that.
Wow. Hard not buy. It seems like they have similar in results sort of granular effects, but I wonder why they did not include a granular mode in such a granular capable device? Still they didnt do what a lot of multifx units do and repackage a prettied up collection of basic DSP algorithms. They made a bunch of incredibly useful effects that really benefit from real time physical control.

Depends on the back number I think, he's active in posting updates in his SynthTech Facebook group, are you in that? Taking up to October I think to have them all out is the current estimate.

All of Synthesis Technology's gear looks super appealing but it's so hard to justify the HP when you're limited on space :(
