I love watching people who have never used a shovel or a spike hammer in their lives attempt to use it, the entire motion of it looks unnatural to them lol

Yes thank you, I'm glad somone else noticed. I was cringing. The CEO was on the wrong side of the rail. If he was spiking the outside he should have been in the gauge hammering over the rail. The other guy used the wrong side of the spike hammer.

I grew up playing in CP's Agincourt yard in the 70's and 80's in Scarborough. I lived 500 yards from the northern half of the yard in the Middle field community. Born in 1971 this naturally began my love for anything trains. From the end of the script era through the action red with multimarks, the MLW M630's and 36's, high hood GP9's and EMD SD40-2's, the red barns and the SD60's, I've seen heard and smelled it all at all times of the day. I have my memories. Now a new era yet again comes about for a whole new generation of train loving kids with the intro of the southern belles that will surely make there way north from time to time until a universal scheme comes about. Times do change. I'm at peace with it. Soon I'll be taking my grand son to the same places I watched trains and nothing beats that. Onward CPKC!

This is hilarious, back in my ridin days ,KCS was notoriously friendly to riders. From the yard workers too the train crews. They just got it. CP was notoriously rough with riders so this merger is a funny one, but another great video and the positives of this are certainly there. I'm hopeful for atleast one special loco outta this!!

Canadian Pacific owns what was once known as the Central Maine and Quebec Railway here in Maine. I wonder if I may someday spot a Kansas City Southern locomotive up here, but you never know. One thing I do find interesting about the merger of CP and KCS is that they have now become the only railroad in North America with operations in all three countries.

I live near a city where CP used to serve a lot of industries. When I was a kid trains were shunting and switching cars all over the city, literally tracks were everywhere. Over the years CP refused to maintain bridges and trackage was abandoned until all there is left is the single corridor through the city past the derelict station, on a line restricted to 10 mph due to the shitty rail on the small remnant of what used to be the North Mainline between Toronto-Ottawa.. Businesses that relied on rail had best take warning that CP will not cater to small potatoes customers.

The first day of the merger ( make that buy out) was spent taking down all SP .signs and decals. Instead of taking pride in getting trains over the road UP would lose whole trains and forget what side track they were tied down in. Southern Pacific didn't go under because it didn't know how to run trains. Union Pacific doesn't really care. Phillip Anschultz bought Southern Pacific first and UP got it from him. it's significant because they merged with KCS, and it serves to reflect a part of the company's history. it's like how BNSF kept the "Santa Fe" portion of their name when BN first merged with it, even though that city wasn't anywhere close to being significant to that railroad at that point either. and besides, kansas city is where the two railroads intersected prior to the merger. i think it's pretty fitting for it.

well this merger is going to have ripple effects between CSX/NS/BNSF/UP. in my eyes this gives CPKC a unfair advantage in the future of modern railroads. so from out of this what i take is going to happen is the previously mentioned big 4 american class 1 railroads will have to begin buying out smaller class railroads or shortlines before CN gets the hair brain idea to do that and try to extend a similar move that CP&KC have pulled off. my opinion is that this merger was done to make the 4 big class 1 railroads to make moves and takeovers to be able to now compete in running between canada/us/mexico which the big 4 have to much on there plate now to deal with and will make things even worse because now all 4 of them have to block out CN expansion. other question and issue here is this. what is mexico and canada view or stance now to other railroads outside of there native countries with regards to buying out or mergering with any of the big 4 american class 1 railroads or CN establishing a 3 way transcontinental link up? last i have heard is that they are still blocked from doing so. and if this is the case then im calling BS aka BULLSHYT on this merger. mark my words this merger has just opened up a big can or worms.
