Great review. I remember holding issue #1 of INVINCIBLE in my hands at the comic store, flicking through the pages and putting it back on the shelf. I didn't think it was very interesting and I was sure new Image superhero comics like DOMINION by Keith Giffen and VENTURE by Jay Faeber and Jamal Igle which came out around the same time would sell so much better because they were more interesting. VENTURE lasted four issues and DOMINION lasted two. INVINCIBLE kept on going and selling. I remember Back in 03 Image Comics were revamping their superhero line of comics to replace the departure of Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios {who went on to create Awesome Comics Studios} and Jim Lee's Wildstorm books which were now a part of DC. Boy was I wrong about INVINCIBLE. Grayson is very likable with the same issues/problems that most teenagers have and the revelation about his father was a genuine shock and surprise. I do see him as a Spider-Man for the younger generation of comic fans and the story has a beginning, middle and an end {haven't read the end yet} which is lacking from most mainstream titles from the big two but is common for Manga. Before Lockdown I read up to volume four which I got from my library. I will have to finish reading the entire series. My library has them all. It is very violent at times but is a lot of fun to read.
Oh wow some image comics history I was not aware of! Agreed that this is really a fun title. I’m a little over a third of the way through the series myself so haven’t finished yet either but have really enjoyed what I’ve read. I really love how Kirkman balances the action/superhero stuff with the slice of life everyday stuff. I never looked at invincible through the lens of a kind of spider-man character but I certainly see that now. I love that comparison! Agreed on the violence/intensity but absolutely a fun read :)
I bought the first 7 volumes paperback because I thought the Ultimate Editions were still using the plain black book with the art on dustcover. I really hate dust covers so I went with the individual volumes. Now they actually have art on Ultimate book and I can throw dust covers in the trash. Just got volume Ultimate 4 today. Picks up right where I left off.
Awesome! Yeah the new ones completely reproduce the dust jacket :) glad you were able to snag an ultimate collection. I read a third of the series digitally on comixology years ago and always planned on collection. I almost bought the compendiums a few times before finally deciding to go ultimate collection. Love the oversized art and hardback is nice 💪👏 I’m in ultimate volume 5 currently.
@@Yoko.Kurama hey happy to help 😂👍 I actually didn’t realize until I ordered the volume 1, the videos I’d seen for the ultimate collections were older when it was just black hardcover. So it was a welcome surprise for me :)
Can you show off your personal collection, your grails, keys, or even Cgc or graded stuff that would be a cool video to see, also can you do like top ten videos like top ten affordable keys or a series talking about comics you need to get before they book up!
Hey really appreciate the recommendations/feedback! I really only collect collected editions so don’t have individual key issues exactly. I could probably do a grail or top 10 video 🤔 I’m actually releasing a video showing off my single issues (what little I do have) next week! I have it scheduled to drop a week from Friday. The only graded book I have I won in a giveaway and I posted the video on my channel a few months back, you can find it in my video library if you’d like 👍 Thanks for watching 😁📚
I’m a little over a third into the series and am really digging it. If you enjoy the superhero genre in general it’s a real treat. The more I read the more I’m impressed by what Kirkman has accomplished with this series! 👏 These Ultimate Collections are definitely recommended as well, very well made oversized hardcovers
@@drocksteadyreviews I mean you never know it could still happen. The oversized ultimate collections are as tall as Omnis which is nice on the bookcase. There are definitely a handful of them though. Still slowly collecting them
Definitely one of the best series out there a remember enjoying this first volume but as it kept going I could easily see how much better it got with its characters and storytelling Kirkman just takes everything Marvel & DC can’t do and dose it
I definitely agree. The more I read the more I’m impressed at all Kirkman successfully juggles at the same time with various subplots etc, reminds me a bit of Claremont and X-men in that way. This title also just has a richness of characters that I am thoroughly enjoying, very engaging. I’ve only read about the first third of the series so far but am hoping to finish this year as able. Have you read the whole run?
Just received Vol 1 and 2 in the mail today and I’m glad I went with the Ultimate Edition. I’m fairly new to comic books. I’m on compendium 4 of The Walking Dead as well do you any recommendations for any other comics by Robert Kirkman I’m really like his writing.
Welcome to comics! :) 👏🎉 I enjoy Kirkman too. I’ve dabbled in Walking Dead and Invincible and they are both so solid-though very different obviously ha. I really love these ultimate editions, great oversized art and put together very well for a decent price point 💪 As far as Kirkman I’ve read/could recommend outside of these two series, I haven’t read a lot. I checked out the first collection of his series Oblivion Song which is newer. I even reviewed the first volume of it on my channel last year. That series is a science fiction that deals with a parallel universe and monsters and conspiracies. I wasn’t as gripped by that series as Walking Dead or invincible but it wasn’t bad and the art was great. I’ve also heard that series gets better. And that’s all I’ve read personally, I know another series I’ve heard a lot about lately but haven’t read is bud series Fire Power, that’s supposed to be pretty good too but I haven’t checked it out yet 🤷🏻♂️ Not sure if that helps but always happy to recommend what I can :) Happy reading! And thanks for checking out the channel
