My Nerf Dart Net/Catcher

- Overview of the dart net/catcher I built. The idea is to shoot darts into the target area and have them funneled into the bin at the bottom.
NOTE: This video also served as a test run for a new microphone arrangement. I encountered some unwanted feedback, which is the fuzzy noise that pops up throughout the video. No need to comment about it, the problem is being worked on.

Perfect timing. My current "dart collection apparatus" was damaged during garage reorganization, and I've been brainstorming designs for a better version. This thing fits the bill to a "T". I'll definitely be taking some strong cues from your design.

If you go to dismantle it, you can preserve most of it by making the vertical pipes telescoping, and have a series of painters clamps (or similar) to hold each telescoping piece in place when you're using it. It won't cut the width or depth, but it's possible to at least cut the height in half (if not more) for storage, depending on how much more effort you want to put in.

I've made something similar but with smaller dimensions as I want to be able to move it about and take it outside. Mine is a 2' cube standing on 3' legs, 3/4" PVC pipe with occasional length 1/2" pipe to fit the corner connectors. I got all my pipe and connectors at Jerry's, a local DIY chain, and the netting from Joanne's.

I know this vid is old, but a good improvement is putting some netting for the gap inbetween the bucket and the funnel hole so as to minimize further those errant darts. Maybe adding a bit more netting layer on the bottom corners of the firing/catch area to also minimize fly-away darts, tho it would also negatively reduce the original rectangular firing area
Wouldn't it have been easier to just angle the back wall towards you? So that the bounces just went straight down?

Hey Frank, perhaps a 2-3" strip of foam board across the front of each black board, angled at 45 degrees from each board's base would catch most of the ricochets which occur once the rival round has hit the black board...sheesh I wonder if I have even explained things clearly...I need to draw a diagram 🤣. Excellent product here, I bet ole Nerf we'll get right busy making one of these to sell at Christmastime. I'd say that's 1% ricochet rate. Which is pretty dern good. Though I know you'd prefer perfection! Can't believe you played trash basketball too, I use to do that all the time and it would drive me crazy when I hit the hole but would miss the can beneath! I'd be like "why do you not have the can breech with the hole!! All kinds of garbage misses the can from this simple little careless design!"

Have you thought about putting very soft foam in the back? It seems as if it would be soft enough not to ricochet and it wouldn't have the weird double tap problem with the darts sometime flying out.
You could try putting a bit of extra netting around the sides of the front to prevent some bounce out
What if you used string on the bottom of the panels and then tie the string to the bottom/back of the catcher. That way, the panels are angled to the back and won't do that flipping action too much? Reminds me of a disc golf basket.

You should get more netting to place on the front, I'd say about all of the bottom half. It'll still be enough room, but will stop a lot of the bounce out.

that plastic-y net would probably be used for shielding windows to keep the bugs out
You could weight the nets with a bit of ducktape and adjust as needed to prevent more bounce outs.
One reason I don't like rival too much, is because it replaced the nerf vortex which made up a pretty big part of my nerfing chilkdhood

What's funny is at the moment you mentioned Formula 1 cars, I was driving one in a game
just an idea, try to put small weights at the bottom of the net catcher things in order to make them shake less thus making less fall out.

You know whats a cool idea. When u go to the park. U can make a nerf tent. Basically the netting on two sticks on the ground. KINDER LIKE tennis nets. The only difference. The net is bigger and could expand to big place. So when u playing nerf at the park. It would be in one spot.

Hey, I've been watching your videos since about halfway through last year. My family had always liked nerf stuff, but you were the kinda driving force behind us getting far more into it and doing mods together for fun. I've now bought about ten nerf guns solely based on your reviews, as has my dad followed your stryfe mod-along. TL;DR, thank you for helping my family get more into something we've all always had fun doing! (Ps- they call me the "expert" after essentially rattling off half your dart overview on the EKIND waffleheads. Always fun to prove how trash the elite darts are!)

you should remake the bottom section to be like \_/\_/\_/ so that you can keep three (maybe four or five, depending on space) bins underneath. that way you can keep firing longer and use the whole thing as more space efficient dart storage
also, you might reduce bounce outs if you put the hanging strips half way back into the body of it so that ricochets have more of a chance to fall down into the funnel rather than flying out. just a thought.
I think that some rounds can get stuck on top of the spikes, and you may think "that's not gonna happen" but when you're shooting hundreds of darts one of them is gonna do that. And also it can bounce a lot because of the jagged surfaces.
