Pour/sprinkle plumbers dye along the dam to find and confirm the leak same as the mud but it removes a lot wasted digging.The amount that was flowing out the ground would have been saturated past the point where you found the piece of pipe definitely wasn't the leak you was looking for
I was thinking that when You were looking for where the leak was coming from that some dye in the water could show You the direction that the water was heading but You saw that with the movement of leaves etc. Good work once again Chris.
I bet the land owner was surprised you came back out to fix it so fast. Or at all. It's very difficult to get contractors back out to fix issues. Only the really good ones come back so fast. While I've never seen you have to return before, I think we all knew you would take care of any issues.

I understand now, the dam was only so wide at first and when you added all the concrete and dirt to the backside! It was leaking here and running through the concrete down to where you were digging at first because it was showing there! I’m learning Chris, I’ve been watching you on your pond jobs and I’ve learned a lot from your experience! Now that’s why I call you “ the Pond Master “! It was real lucky y’all were talking there and noticed the water moving! Go buy a lottery ticket my friend! You might’ve dug the whole backside up before finding this spot! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Have to send a special thank you for this one. I have a very similar situation with a leak in one of the ponds on my place. I intended to follow the outflow point until I located it's origin, same as you did. The confirmation was helpful.
Reminds me of what mechanics go through sometime.. Fix one known issue, and lo and behold, a new one pops up. With mechanics most of the time, they get blamed for the new problem. Sounds like you work with some pretty good land owners who you can show the issue to and they understand. Awesome job.

There is water solvable harmless pigment that can be used to track leaks ,for example if you have likly starting point you colour the watet there and you can trace the outflow downstream of the leak.
Seems odd that there was only a couple very small pieces of some old pipe and after the first 2-3', the dirt was bone dry but somehow that was causing that much water to run out the bottom.
Bama Bass built a pond, had some leaks and ended up putting a two-part polymer along the pond dam in the water that gelled up and sealed his smaller leaks.
Good thing to found the problem there. Instead of waiting till all your equipment was gone, you'd have to bring it all back. I'm surprised you don't use any green dye or red dye to put in the water to see where it comes out. That would have been a good thing to put some in that one spot and see where it comes out but you got her fixed up. Good show. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦

I bet it’s leaking around that tree roots we had the same thing on a much bigger lake dug the tree out and used ten tons of bentonite clay . It stopped it . Good luck
Glad it appears to be a simple fix. Really is kind of wild a leak on the corner of the dam can exit in the middle of the dam. Guess it must show how much concrete and other debris must be buried in that dam for the leak to snake that far.
Of course, your jobs always look good Chris! The pond is probably constructed out of junk, might be under a lot of pressure from being full! It’s like, you should’ve dug it out and put a whole new core trench!
They needed 3 overflows for the pond lol a spillway and 2 thru pipes since they were all installed poorly and not functioning how they should. Seems your client is from the same state as me being a Lions fan, they suck but we still cheer for them lmao

Good job Chris! It really looks like the previous dam builder had very little compaction on the dam. That can be a never ending nightmare. You would almost have to core the whole dam to fix it if it leaks again. Hope you all survived all the rain down your way…Take care and thanks for the video….

Clay is quite valuable for projects such as this and serves as a natural water sealant. I see the material there is mostly sand.

On my property if you dig down two feet you hit that sticky gray clay. Makes a good pond but not so good for septic fields
