New 40' Trolleys Are Here

- All of Muni’s standard-length (40-foot) trolley buses, which you may know by the trolley poles that attach them to overhead wires on routes like the 1 California and 24 Divisadero, will be replaced with a new fleet by 2019. The first arrived earlier this week, and is currently undergoing testing before rolling onto the streets. More info: sfmta.com/blog

I've heard from a guy in San Francisco that the ETI Skoda was a huge mistake when they first ordered them and put them in service. Oh well, they are all suppose to be gone by next year. Wonder if any will be retained for the historical fleet. Bob (8/22/18)

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! THE OLD BUSSES WORK PERFECTLY FINE, THEY SOUND WAYYYY COOLER, AND THEY ARE THE SAN FRANCISCO WAY. THE XCELSIORS WILL BREAK DOWN, AND THEY ARE APPALING, AND THEY HAVE VIRTUALLY NO DISTINCTION FROM THE NON-TROLLEY BUSSES. PLEASE AT LEAST KEEP THE OLD ONES ON ONE LINE!!!!! MAYBE THE 33 OR THE 31?

Will they fit the terrain like 1-California? I think such terrain use traditional high floor models like those Electric Transit or Neoplan would better.
Did Muni tried XT40 on 1 California? I know 22 is also a steep hill climbing, I took that line once, but forgot it's ETI or XT40.
I'm wondering about the same thing on route 24 Divisadero.

I disagree, I know that Honolulu has run Excelsiors (hybrid version) since 2010 and they are still the backbone of service in the busiest urban lines. Furthermore there have been 24 more added to the fleet since then. Why do you stand for an old make that is not longer supported?
Xcelsiors are also used in Seattle and Vancouver. I haven't heard any bad news from there. New Flyer is also touting a large order from Los Angeles MTA for its latest model, the Xcelsior Charge, a battery bus.
so you prefer the retarder kicking in all of a sudden? i think the reason why they "break down" all of a sudden is due to bad maintenance.... if they were properly maintain it wouldn't happen so often.... The coaches telling the operator not to continue driving... Do you want the bus to last for years or drive it till everything falls off ie neoplan...they dont fix them until they're on their last wheel. Just look at the rebuild neoplan compare to the older xde40 both came out the same time... which one on their last wheel?
Maintenance is a system problem. If the agency has good maintenance, then problems occur less often and the reverse is true. I don't know about current Muni Maintenance, so I can't comment. Honolulu OTS maintenance appers to be good. Cummins gave a million mile award for keeping a Gillig Phantom running that long.

They better keep eti or do the old lay out for these new buses. They better not take out the eti every ine loves them
