I still remember walking down Bank St. in '91, and seeing the Parliament buildings logo, and a friend thinking he should buy it. He should've. 1927! 1927!
I knew if i watched enough of yer vids you'd finally mention the-Kenora(Rat Portage Thistles),the best ever Stanley Cup champs!!!Art Ross played for them, such a small town local team to win the cup!
As a Sens fan I totally agree that Heatley and Yashin are both equally a bigger villian in team history. Both had huge egos and though Heatley did help take them to the cup in 2007, he really could've been less hated if he didn't want out of Ottawa.
heatley has to be the biggest villain - we took him in when all that ugliness happened in atlanta, gave up my favourite ottawa senator (Hossa) in order to get him. We finally got a 50 goal scorer. what a huge moment in franchise history. and then he wanted out in no uncertain terms. what a heartbreaker, wasn't long before the team went into full rebuild mode. we did get Michalek back, and the most delicious of ironies was that he outproduced Heatley in points year after year post-trade. yashin was more drawn out, but when he left we ended up with Chara and Spezza (and Mukalt) which eased the pain. We won that trade by a lot. there's no spezza bitterness but that he left and we had next to nothing to show for the trade was pretty disappointing. Ottawa still wishes him nothing but the best. hurme- i owned a signed hurme jersey as a kid. always thought he was better than lalime. (we loved calling patrick swisscheese or beachball back in the day) heard on james duthie's podcast an interview with Luongo where he suggested that Hurme was the only backup he ever had who was actively cheering for him to fail. what a blow. I love Jani. but he never was able to play consistently enough to get that starting job anywhere.
I know this much about the early Ottawa Senators: Alec Connell was THE netminding superstar of his era, and the Detroit Red Wings (then the Cougars and the Falcolns) did not become a legit team until they acquired him in a firesale trade.
We hate Heatley more for sure- We loved him, treated him like a star. I don't remember a time (except when he returned with the Sharks) that we ever really got on his case for anything. And then, all of a sudden asks for a trade. I know he says he wasn't getting the best ice time or producing the best numbers under Clouston, but I don't know why he was so worried about playing time. Everyone in Ottawa knew Clouston wouldn't last and wasn't a long-time solution as a coach and we were right. As soon as Clouston leaves, Heatley would get that more ice time he desired. But, he opts to request a trade. Plus, the return for we got for Heatley was brutal. Milan Michalek was alright at times I guess, but injury really prevented from reaching his full potential. The (Jonathan) Cheechoo train was more of a train wreck. The less we speak of this trade the better. Alexei Yashin. Yes, we did hate him for a little bit. He was our captain and it felt like he basically abandoned ship. And yes, it seemed like he was always asking for more money. However, time has repaired the relationship between himself and the fans along with the organization. He even attended our Alumni game during the NHL 100 Classic weekend and walked from the Parliament Hill rink back to his downtown hotel (with his gear still on), and he stopped to sign almost everyone's stuff and take pictures with everyone. It also didn't hurt that we got Zdeno Chara and a 1st round pick that ended up being Jason Spezza out of the trade. Looking back at it, Yashin was young and I'm sure if he knows what he knows now he would have handled that situation better than he did back then. Hopefully we can avoid Karlsson ending up in this conversation for most hated Senator and get him re-signed soon but I don't think soon will be before the end of the season. Go Sens Go!
I think the sens lost their chance at the cup when they didn’t sign chara. Not sure why this happened maybe to have money for spezza or heatley. But in my own mind that’s where we lost it. Think about it we could have had chara a few years ago playing on the same defence as pre injury Erik karlsson. Also I think we lost it the year or oh five oh six when hasek got injured. We made it to second round that year and lost in five but two of those were in overtime and all were decided by one goal. The hurricanes went in to win the finals versus the oilers.
Neil hasn't produced as well on offense for years, but (according to Corsi) he has evolved into a better defensive player. Not Toews, Hossa, Kopitar, etc., but good.

My favorite teams are the Canucks and the Senators. Canucks, cause I live close to Seattle, and the Senators cause I can't stand Toronto or Montreal.
As a Sens fan I totally agree that Heatley and Yashin are both equally a bigger villian in team history. Both had huge egos and though Heatley did help take them to the cup in 2007, he really could've been less hated if he didn't want out of Ottawa.
I do love that jersey, that stupid alternate jersey from 2010 to 2011 was awful the black with the 'sens' text in the front ughh

Love the SENS-they had the best jerseys!
