My Mother was a great cook, 👍 👌 ☺️ 😊 old county style. I haven't found anyone that could cook any better and throw a meal together any faster. Her older .sister my aunt was a great cook plus her daughter but not as good as my mother or hers, also along with her baby sister. Didnt use all the spices 5 -10 ct seasoning that I see them using today..
All she put in her was potatoes , regular onion milk water, or can milk, water salt & blk pepper, butter. But it was the amt. of each that counts. I can't make it as good as she did either.
No carrots, celery. Makes me want to make some tomorrow. Brings back memories ❤❤❤.
My family from N.C & S.C grew up in the tobacco & cotton fields.

That is a lot of love in that bowl! Yummy! Thank you for your video. New subscriber here, and I'm looking forward to your next video and also watching your older ones. I love some cast-iron baked cornbread with butter on the side of my potato soup. I take a spoonful of soup and put a little piece of buttered cornbread on top of my spoonful of soup and boy ol'boy that is some good eatin'. I use instant flakes when I have them and a little slurry of cornstarch when I don't. I don't want it too thick, though, lol! I add a little bit of butter, a sprinkle of shredded cheese or parmesean cheese, and crispy chopped bacon on top of my bowl of soup. Sometimes I like a tad bit of sourcream too. From Melissa in the mountains of Virginia. 🙏

Lol. I really cut my potatoes in small cubes 3 or 4 pieces fit in a spoon.
I boiled all my stuff, never fried up separate... but I don't think I used any bacon, which would b excellent!
Some times I add 1 sweet potato, the color is so pretty.
My mom used chicken broth, never milk... I do milk & thicken with a few potatoe flakes.
      Mmm love it

my grandmother always saved some of her cornbread mix before pouring it in the skillet to bake. She'd mix it with milk and add to her potatoes after they were done. She would be over a hundred if she was still around. She always talked about using what you had. She called it, poor man's potato soup. Boil potatoes-(about 2quarts) add butter and salt and pepper. Then add milk to 3/4 to 1 cup of cornbread mix, temper with some of the hot broth and pour as you stir into the potatoes. I wouldn't like the celery and carrots but, I might try adding the onion. I like adding the instant potatoes incase it isn't thick enough. God bless and thanks for the memories.

Hi Belinda new sub here from Oklahoma born in Missouri. I make potatoe soup alot like yours and the way my Mama did.I dont fry onions and celery in bacon fat but oh my goodness sounds delicious. I never used carrots until recently but did start. I havent made in awhile and for some reason i get nervous but realize its fairly simple if you get potatoes washed an peeled. I once made a pot wirh frozen french fries believe it or not. I thought it was so sweet of you to take your elderly friend some soup and reminded me of my Grandma who lived into her nineties and also how important it is to share. Thankyou and i look forward to seeing more of your videos.

I make my soup just about like yours but no carrots and I do a slurry to thicken but am going to try the instant taters next time sounds delicious and much easier.. I also use heavy cream instead of milk.. but I like it both ways just as long as the soup is a little thicker. We top with bacon, cheese and sometimes sour cream for the loaded potato taste! Yummy.. coming from ohio .. God bless

Belinda, that looks like it would be wonderful. Let me tell you about another ingredient that I've found out about that makes potato soup taste better than any soup you're ever tasted.
That is McCormick Country Gravy Mix. My SS teacher brought a crock pot of potato soup to a gathering we had and I said, Pat, what in the world did you put in this soup to make it
the best soup I've ever eaten? She said about a half cup of McCormick Country Gravy Mix,
something I'd never have thought of. So I found some on Amazon and later found a large container of it at Walmart that was VERY much cheaper than Amazon's. Now my kitchen will never be without this mix. Just try it and see if it's not the best thing you've ever tasted. Keep cooking !

When I make potato soup I make a pot full , I cook up 12-16oz of bacon and set it aside then ina large pot I add 1 onion chopped 1 cup of celery chopped and 1 cup of carrots chopped and about 12 potatoes cut up in very small cubes cover with water and boil until everything is tender for seasoning s I add salt and pepper and celery seasoning then I add all the bacon and all the bacon grease. Stir that and add 1 quart of Half and Half add then fill the pot with whole milk stir and add 1 envelope of Loaded potatoes serve when it thickens ❤❤❤

This potato soup looks delicious definitely will have to make this sometime❤I’d love to hear about you & your 8 siblings sometimes. I know my mom was 1 of seven kids my grandma did a lot of homecoming as well. She told me to waste food was a sim in their house. Probably because it was expensive to feed all those mouths too. They always found ways to stretch their food & budgets to make everything last awhile. Lots of leftovers I bet.

Love potato soup; going to try your method. My wife was one of 11 children (she's the youngest) and they all tell me about all the water gravy and mashed potatoes they ate.

Yes, I remember we also had a lot of powdered milk. But we never went hungry. Mom also made fried corn bread, and she fried her biscuits . That was so good.

Did you know you can buy a spatter screen to sit over top of your frying pan? I'm never without mine. I'm writing down as you go along. My mouth is watering. My mother saved her bacon grease in the fridge and used to fry steak, pork chops, etc. Nothing was wasted.
