This was many years ago, It have now 21 years with me and I keep it even better than in this video, try to keep it the best I can. Thank you for you kind wishes. Greetings from Mexico. The car was assembled here by the way.
These kind of videos motivated me to purchase a Benz. I am in a period where I need to save money, so I purchased a 2008 C class, a car I would feel comfortable in keeping for a long time, since I hope not to buy a car for a long, long time. I hope it goes well and that I made a good choice, since videos like this one (a benz well kept for many years and running like a champ) motivated me to do so. Beautiful car, listen to that engine!!
This is the most beautiful Mercedes in my opinion! The details are very nice, wonderful lines! Congratulations for your work on it, even with the painting a little faded it still looks great!
She runs smooth as silk! On first look I confused the speedo with an automatic quadrant! What an unique binnacle! I've a fascination for the early factory and add-on AC systems that used to proliferate! I can see a direct lineage from '63 straight through to today with all the right pieces--the grille and star say it all. Unlike Cadillac, Mercedes never diluted or trashed its image or quality! I'll need a drive!
Old girl is running a bit lean. She should crank over within only a few turns of the starter motor to idle. Great cars these I've had mine for almost a decade now - love it.
An excellent souvenir... My parents had the same (light blue with flashy red leather seats!...) I could drive it only on one occasion... Thank you for all your posts !
dont forget the two stroke oil added to the fuel! Modern fuels destroy the old carbs and engine materials so it is needed in old bikes, cars and trucks --just add the protective 2 Stroke oil to the fuel. (1%)
You have a very nice Heckfloss ( fintail ) my friend. Keep on taking care of her ! Wish I had one ; 1963 , the year I was born ! I have the W123 , 300 turbo diesel ! :-)
this is the oldest mercedes i have but i had not seen this video it´s perfect today and was driven since new till 93 now only from time to time i drive it and the 220 gasoline engine it´s not fast but drinks a lot, mine is black and as a ivory steering
Lovely car. I love the old fintails. Keep her. Don't sell her. Such Mercs are hard to come by. I have a W203 and I love her. I will never sell her. A Mercedes needs to be loved and preserved. Not turned into a washing machine.
GREAT car man! although it's a 220 not an S I can tell by the carburators, the speedometer, the rear cabin light switch that is missing and the rear plate lights just like mine that was a 220 and now a 230 S congrats for your effort I love that you have an AC and hydraulic steering keep living your dream, that's what I do
Oh I see thats great...I have 230S twin Zeniths and it takes ages if she;s been left alone for a while too. I sometimes go extreme and drop a couple cap fulls of petrol into the barrels which helps but is also a recipe for flash burns!!! But I'm mad enough to still do it. I am the same too - I know the mechanical side of the car very well but have no bodyshop experience at all. So, I'm at the mercy of the bodyshops for another respray and its not cheap where I live :-( Silver is nice. Mines blue
Modern fuels contans ethanol in the case of benzine or bio vegetable oil in the case of Diesel, so there is not enough lubrification for the injection parts! So its very important to add 1% good smokefree API TC two stroke lubricant to the fuel or diesel
It is just gorgeous! Look how it stands out from all the other cars in the street. 48 years old and it can hold its own in style with anything on the road--really even better. Crisp mid-60's styling with those tall windows with visibility to all 4 corners is my favorite style for cars ever. It looks like GM AC? Is it the GM four-speed Hydra-Matic that shifts 3 times with a positive thunk each time? I need a ride! Look at my channel NDrLoR when you have time!
Beautiful car brother! Myself, I have an '87 Mercedes 190e Cosworth, and a '55 Buick. Your car doesn't look perfect, but very honest. When you close the door on an old classic, it sounds like a bank vault. I hope you keep it. Cheers, Rob
***** Hello again Ricardo. Like I said, your car is great because it's honest. Once you get the bodywork done, it will be even better. My Mercedes is in good shape. I need a windshield, an antenna switch, the central locking needs work, and the sunroof needs some love. It won't take too long to sort out. My Buick, however, needs more love. The brakes don't work, I may eventually upgrade to disc brakes. It has some rust, not too much. I may try to fix the rust spots, and just clear coat it. I will also give it a good tune up, change all the fluids, and just drive it. Cheers, Rob
I love the old 220's. However, I'm equally in live with the 190 Cosworth! If I had the choice between either one, in perfect condition, I'd have a nervous breakdown trying to decide. Lol.
bluestudio67 They are both great cars I think, I love my 190e, but 220's are awesome too in a different way. You should be able to find one or the other for a reasonable price, one would hope. Cheers, Rob
My dad had a 1963 dark gray 220S years ago. There was left side mirror mounted on the door. Does anybody know why only one side and why on the door and not fender?
They only had it in the driver's side, but since there are right or left drive side according to the country they were sold, both mirrors exist. In mid 1963 they switched the mounting position from the fender to the driver's door , that's why some 1963 have it on the fender and others on the door.
fantastic car. i have a 1962, euro spec. mine needs a new fuel tank and fuel lines, but body and interior are top notch. i had it shipped to the states from Spain, like yourself, i fell in love with this model as a kidd. i'm in Va, where are you?
Aren't you worried about engine wear - letting her crank over on starter oil pressures for so long before starting? Those old blocks are pretty solid but still deserve respect. Is that the twin Zenith setup you have? If so its notoriously hungry maybe consider changing to the twin solex's if you want a bit more economy I guess. What have you done about the paintwork? I'm having to consider a respray for mine very soon :-(
+schwartz wolfe are they worth a lot? I am looking at one that's black with a caremel interior, clear coat is fading on the rear of the car and doesn't run. Would it be worth 2k? Or something around there, it is a complete car.
I just purchased a 1965 and love it. I was wonder what issues if any have you run into and whats the top speed. I ask because my speedo isn't working but it seems that its toping out at about 55 mph. The previous own changed the rear so not sure if its got a higher gear ratio thats causing the 55 mph top speed.
thank you very much ive been nervous about this issue recently. Now I can definitely pursue this dream classic with no hesitation. you have no idea how much help you've been
Nah dude London is comparatively cheap! I currently living in Sydney - cost of living is at least three times more expensive than London - its crazy. Yupp those Zeniths are a joke to rebuild something like 15 different factory settings and even more adjustments!? Its been about a decade since I've pulled one apart... Work like a dream when properly set though, not that I've managed to do that...
After the first pictures of all these DAMN UGLY cars from the 1990s & especially 2000s, it makes such a contrast, when one sees the Mercedes. She's a real beauty compared to them. Beats 'em all hands down. It has the charm and the class of the 1950s/1960s that the others definitely lack., It's a shame I promised to myself I will never own a car as long as I'm alive, otherwise I would have purchased one of that kind;...That's for sure !
Cars from these 2 or 3 last decades don't interest me that much, and yet I'm what can be called a ''young'' man ! Prenez en soin, elle le merite !
Was soll das?
Take that shit motor out and drop in a Cummins 4BT or better yet, swap in an LS.. I love these old cars but driving behind one of these moving gas chambers is impossible.. Who gives a crap about the original engine, new engine is more efficient and fun!
MaddoxInc I rather keep this one as a piece of living history , no matter how slow or poor gas mileage .. I'm not much in to modified vehicles, for me they are better the closest as they were when new. But that's just me , every one has different taste.
An advanced designed Mercedes Benz car. Beautiful car . I would buy one of thes cars.
Wonderful and Original!
I wish you many happy years with this greatful car!

❤wow...reminds me of my dad's merc..identical...
What a wonderful vehicle, however, exposure to the sun is definitely detrimental and requires a lot of maintenance. Good ride.

There is nothing like an old Mercedes Benz.
My father passed in 1985.He had one of these in the garage. I gave it to one of his friends. :-(
Sure it was very appreciated by his friend. This one is now 20 years with me.
This is the most beautiful Mercedes in my opinion! The details are very nice, wonderful lines! Congratulations for your work on it, even with the painting a little faded it still looks great!
Very beautiful, love old mercedes.
