The defense will eventually crack? When he said that it became clear that he hasn't done his due diligence and he hasn't watched Mavs games in the playoffs.
Another team buying into the “Luka is a defensive liability” narrative. Those of us that have watched every game know that Luka can lock in defensively. Maybe they tire him out, maybe they don’t. I wouldn’t bet my entire strategy on beating Luka with your offense though.
This is something nobody is talking about. He is going to get torched in pick and roll regardless if they switch or play drop. Rudy couldn’t even guard it but people think KP can? Lmao
For Mavs to Win Luka and Irving have to clearly outplay Tatum and Brown. We must have Luka be best player on the court to have a chance. Players 3 - 8 will decide who wins. They are better shooters, depth, spread floor and passers top to bottom. The series may very will be decided by White, Holiday, Portzingas and Hartford vs. PJ, Jones, Gafford and Liv. Go Mavs.
To Nick and this John guy, I don't understand the point of discussing guarding Luka 1 on 1. Majority of Mavs's offense starts with a PNR or staggered screens and roll/pop, putting the defense in rotation. Now if it's not a drop coverage and the defense hedges, Luka is good enough (probably the best in the league) to go around or split the defenders putting them again in rotation. So what is the point here? are you saying Boston defenders are really good at hedge/ice screen actions? and even if they are, Mavs will just move the PnR action up the court and then the defender on Luka is just playing catch. Though I agree that the Celtics will TRY to limit the Mavs' role players, I don't think it's going to be 1v1 basketball in this series apart from clutch game deciding situations
When this guy started talking like a coach we know they're fuck. One thing Celtics fans and people forget is Celtics don't have a playmaker and that will hit hard against them mark my words. When you don't have playmaker or you're star can't playmake you'll be in trouble most of the time against good defense. Mavs are not a joke on defense and those Celtics ball movements that they're proud of won't work against Dallas, you'll see. Luka is a different animal and they'll know that soon.
Agreed! Celtics fans have been assuming they are just gonna somehow run Dallas off the floor I keep seeing the fans say Celtics in 5 over and over again. Their lack of playmaking is why so many games with Indiana and Cleveland were close, they have a tough time executing and fall into isolation basketball.
Not true, Holiday, Prichard and White can all run the offense. Plus Brown and Tatum if needed. We have Luka, Irving then big big fall off to Hardy and Exum.
@@T_Rat48I'll be honest with you. That historic Pacers offense isnt any better than Mavs, Nuggets, Boston, OKC, Knicks (if healthy) and Bucks (if healthy) in a playoff setting. They dont have an ELITE playmaker but Boston off set that with 4 players that can drive and kick. They are reactionary passers but from time to time they make great decision especially Tatum who improved over the years. This series will depend on KP. Will he able to punish Mavs for making their big stay in the paint and overhelp. Will he able to punish Dallas when they try to put smaller guys on him. I dont think Boston will try to contain Luka but contain everyone else. They have switch-able defenders where they can live with them defending Luka. Boston will most likely tire Luka out by making sure that they contain everyone else so he's forced to score himself and target him on the offensive side.
What I dont get... HOW do you force Luka into tough, contested 2's while NOT allowing 3's (means go over the Screen every time) AND take away corner 3's (means no help defense) AND take away lobs (means deep Drop is needed). Thats just not possible. I understand thats the plan... thats allways the plan for every defense ever. BUT HOW? Thats just not possible!
I was thinking the same thing... John acts as if you could live with tough Luka shots and take away his passing game completely. But when you want to switch everything, stay home on the shooters and guard Luka 1 on 1, he is not always taking the step back three. Especially when his 3-pointers are falling, his defender has to come closer and Luka will drive by him a lot of times. And then... what? Let Luka go to the rim for an uncontested Layup? Of course not! At this point the defense has to send help and all of a sudden the defense will be in scramble mode and Luka will pass the ball and find open teammates.
The difference between what the OKC dealt with and what the Celtics will deal with - and that makes a whole lot of difference - is that Luka seems healthier. Applying that tactics now won't have the same results, Luka won't shoot as poorly as he did in the beginning of the OKC series. For me, the thing will be to make the Celtics settle for either 1-on-1 or fell in love with the 3s, which is something they do from time to time, making their offense more stagnant and easier to defend.
@@austindowney5581 yup. they expect Horford and KP to keep up with that? Hilarious. Whenever Horford is on the court the pace needs to be turned up and he has to be relentlessly targeted in pick and roll and isolation. Would like to see that small ball lineup to get back up and firing again. Will be absolutely crucial for us. If we can hang with their 5 out for minutes. Then match a fresh KP with a fresh lively. I am so excited to see the basketball chess match.
The thing about the Celtics is that if you prevent them from attacking the paint and make them fall in love with jumpers, they are vulnerable and that happens more often than a Celtics fan would like to. Sometimes they settle and the offense gets stagnant and this Mavs have proven that they can fight even if the opponent has +36pts in 3s made, the Celtics are not the same when their shots are not falling though.
I think because the Celtics owned us during the regular season, they won’t change up their scheme much in the beginning. Maybe they adjust a little for PJ Washington as he has been hitting his corner 3’s. Also, adjusting for However KP looks coming back.
@@newellgster How did it take you 2 days to find this? Maybe you should try to find a betting site that lets you place bets on games that happened 2 days ago, too.
Lukas biggest strength is how he plays based on what the opponent gives him. His adjustments are crazy and he will see all the cracks regardless of defensive strategy.
This guy doesn't watch mavs basketball. He's talking about our defense getting tired? Lol. There 5 starters are the ones that are going to be tired.. they have no depth
Exactly. I’ve seen so many people trying to argue that Boston is deeper 😂 they have a good 6-7 man rotation but I’m not sure Pritchard will be very effective because Luka will hunt switches on him
Is John Karalis thinking the Celtics are all energizer batteries? An offense might expend less energy than a defense by not dribbling. Maybe? Does he expect defense against Luka is going to require little effort? His gameplan idea seems to be based on making Dallas work to wear them out...and yet, the Celtics will be steel legged vs noodle legs in the 4th quarter? I hope this is what the Celtics are planning because I believe Dallas has a deeper bench and Luka in the best shape of his career. The Celtics' guy sounds like he's still game planning for the 2022-23 Mavericks. If they really do go after Dallas as he has said, this series will be returning to Dallas with the Mavs up 2-0. It'll happen before they even realize they need to rethink things. The maturation of Jaden Hardy, putting that lethal 3rd ball handler in motion. Then while the Celtics are lamenting the early strategy, the supporting cast will put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. PJ, DJJ, Green and Kleber will blow right by their defenders.
A couple of thoughts. First is that the Pacers gave them game 1. They also won games 3 and 4 against them without Halliburton. Second thought, please play Luka 1 on 1. The Celtics are deep, but Luka 1 on 1 shifts that to a non factor. They might ask Devin Booker how that works out. Its going to be a good series, but the Mavs are not the Pacers, Knicks are Giannis less Bucks.

@@minyeongchungit doesn’t even matter who is guarding him for 2 reasons. 1, nobody can stop him 1 on 1. 2, he will run pick and roll all game anyway and take whatever the defense gives him. Boston is just not ready for what's about to happen. Eastern conference was a breeze. Western was a gauntlet. Everybody knows that, Boston knows that. Mavs in 6.
Not sure how Luka cant be considered the best player in the world at this point. When the other teams entire strategy is to tire out and shut down one player.. And this has happened every round so far these playoffs
Mavs and Boston Defensive ratings identical right now. Kyrie and Luca are pretty good one-on-one defenders. Luka leads the entire playoffs in steals and if Kyrie wants you to stop dribbling, you're going to pick up the ball or lose it
I feel like if Tatum or Brown hits 2 shots in a row, blitz em the next play. Can't let either one get hot. Plus i hope Kidd puts in a "no lay-ups rule". Although Lively & Gafford play great defense under the basket. I meant like on fast breaks. Then again, i didn't see so many lay-ups in the Minnesota series.. Guess it'll come down to which role player is gonna get hot from the 3....
Boston has a huge edge, frankly. Luka is obviously the best player in the series, but despite what some people want to think, Tatum and Brown are both better than Kyrie, and then for the most part the rest of Boston is better all around and more dependable. This is going to be extremely difficult for the mavericks and I just can't realistically see them winning.
Like stated numerous times, Dallas is not the same team before the trade deadline and after the trade deadline. Looking at the Regular Season between Dallas and Celtics doesn't tell you anything. But the Celtics is the same team before and after (you could even argue the Celtics were stronger in the Regular Season because of a fit Porzingis). So let's look at the matchups during the regular season between the Celtics and the teams Dallas just faced in the Playoffs. Celtics vs LA Clippers 1-1 // Celtics vs OKC Thunder 1-1 // Celtics vs Minnesota 1-1 So the Celtics are 0.500 against 3 of the top 4 teams in the West. (Celtics vs Denver 0-2, so 0.375 agains the top 4 teams in the West). You can clearly see that the Celtics #1 seed is inflated because of playing in the East. And their record is not great against the top teams in the West. Now if you do look at Dallas during the Regular Season against these same teams. Dallas vs LA Clippers 1-3 // Dallas vs OKC Thunder 1-3 // Dallas vs Minnesota 1-3 So Dallas is 0.250 against 3 of the top 4 teams in the West. (Dallas vs Denver 1-2, so 0.285 against the top 4 teams in the West) Dallas in the Playoffs against these teams 12-5, so 0.706. Dallas is another animal since the trade. Mavs in 6!
Even as a Mavs fan I dont think its insane to try to play Luka 1on1. If he cooks he cooks and then you can blitz him in crucial moments and hope the "others" are cold. The problem is he'll still find ways to get others involved. Unless youre truly going to stay home at all costs and give Luka free eats, he beats help/stunt and recover defnse on the regular
Does he know about Kleber and the 5 out lineup? Lol strength of the defense is gaff and lively inside, yes. But they also have the ability to switch it up & play 5 out/switch everything.
If I am a Boston fan, I am not thrilled about what John is saying. Yes, Luka is going to pick you apart BUT he is not going to get worked on the defensive end. Luka has stepped up his game big time there and Jason Kidd has figured out how to hide Luka on defense.
I’m not sure why nobody brings up the bench aspect Timberwolves have no bench and Dallas has hardy hardaway lively exum Josh green off the bench who do the Timberwolves have just Nas reid ?
It makes sense but of course Luka is going to pick his way out of that matchup if he doesn’t like it. Regardless they’ll pick on KP, Horford and Pritchard whenever they are on the court. That will be our focus as usual. Searching out Weak Boston antelope for slaughter. That’s why I think we might see a lot of Tillman in this series and not a lot of the other three. KP is too tall, Horford too old and Pritchard too tiny to guard Luka or even Kyrie. It was a two point game in Boston midway thru the 3rd before we fell apart and what we did then is what we will try to do this time. Just for 48 minutes this time lol……

Go Mavs.
LETS GOOOOO! 💙🐴
Go mavs
LockedonMavs should put out a public apology to Mavs fans for misleading them so badly with these atrocious takes 😭
Let’s go Celtics
😭😭exactly!!!
@user-bs8zt2gq1p forget Pritchard bro, Luka will just abuse him. I think this will be the series for Jrue and White.
@@TheKhal22hero ball only works on decent teams and mavs are elite.
I think John is right, we need our other guys scoring, not only Luka. If they shutdown others, we will have a problem
Do you understand now?
The difference between what the OKC dealt with and what the Celtics will deal with - and that makes a whole lot of difference - is that Luka seems healthier. Applying that tactics now won't have the same results, Luka won't shoot as poorly as he did in the beginning of the OKC series. For me, the thing will be to make the Celtics settle for either 1-on-1 or fell in love with the 3s, which is something they do from time to time, making their offense more stagnant and easier to defend.
Lol He's really banking on our guys getting tired when we have the younger team aside from kyrie and maxi who they won't get tired.
Don’t know why he’d bank on us getting tired when our rotation is almost double the size of there’s
@@Andrew-gs2ps And our Centers only play 20-25 minutes each

@@versuch8239 And Luka can go on say 20 point quarters then rest the next quarter.
I think the Ying Yang Assassins have another gear and are going to play the best ball of their lives. Let's go Mavs!
Love the hat bro!
Go mavericks
Boston and Boston fans are trying to place all their pennies on KP if that's the cause MAVS on 4, we all know how he just gives up..
I think because the Celtics owned us during the regular season, they won’t change up their scheme much in the beginning. Maybe they adjust a little for PJ Washington as he has been hitting his corner 3’s. Also, adjusting for However KP looks coming back.
celtics can only hope that luka misses his shots not much else you can do but try to make it as hard as posssible for him

Well defended, Nick. They want to tire them out? :o Their plan is to run the 18-second offence? Those 7-second Mavs will hit like lightening then.
Update?
Boston is realistically 6-7 deep. After Prichard they are very thin.

Kyrie was all NBA near 50-40-90 in Boston.
Luka leads the entire playoffs in steals and if Kyrie wants you to stop dribbling, you're going to pick up the ball or lose it
Should we double or single guard Tatum and brown
I feel like if Tatum or Brown hits 2 shots in a row, blitz em the next play. Can't let either one get hot. Plus i hope Kidd puts in a "no lay-ups rule". Although Lively & Gafford play great defense under the basket. I meant like on fast breaks. Then again, i didn't see so many lay-ups in the Minnesota series.. Guess it'll come down to which role player is gonna get hot from the 3....
We can't let Tatum and Brown beat Luka and Irving. They have too much depth and better shooters.
@@JohnnySmith-x2b yeah. They do have an edge there...

Celtics vs LA Clippers 1-1 // Celtics vs OKC Thunder 1-1 // Celtics vs Minnesota 1-1
So the Celtics are 0.500 against 3 of the top 4 teams in the West.
Dallas vs LA Clippers 1-3 // Dallas vs OKC Thunder 1-3 // Dallas vs Minnesota 1-3
So Dallas is 0.250 against 3 of the top 4 teams in the West.
(Dallas vs Denver 1-2, so 0.285 against the top 4 teams in the West)
Dallas in the Playoffs against these teams 12-5, so 0.706.
Dallas is another animal since the trade.
Mavs in 6!
Does John know the shot clock is only 24 seconds?
Even as a Mavs fan I dont think its insane to try to play Luka 1on1. If he cooks he cooks and then you can blitz him in crucial moments and hope the "others" are cold. The problem is he'll still find ways to get others involved. Unless youre truly going to stay home at all costs and give Luka free eats, he beats help/stunt and recover defnse on the regular
Does he know about Kleber and the 5 out lineup? Lol strength of the defense is gaff and lively inside, yes. But they also have the ability to switch it up & play 5 out/switch everything.
How did Kleber do?
If I am a Boston fan, I am not thrilled about what John is saying. Yes, Luka is going to pick you apart BUT he is not going to get worked on the defensive end. Luka has stepped up his game big time there and Jason Kidd has figured out how to hide Luka on defense.

That’s why I think we might see a lot of Tillman in this series and not a lot of the other three. KP is too tall, Horford too old and Pritchard too tiny to guard Luka or even Kyrie.
