My Favorite Brushes for Adobe Fresco and Photoshop.

- People often ask me what my favorite brushes are for drawing in Adobe Fresco. To be honest, I don't use a lot but I thought I'd walk through the ones I do use and share some tips for drawing with them. Because my work is fairly simple there’s really only a few categories of brushes in regular rotation. The first one is sketching. For me, I need to sketch in a brush that looks and behaves like a pencil. I don’t know why, but I find that if I start sketching using a brush I’d do final line work in, it’s a struggle.
The next category of brushes is the most important one for me. These are the brushes I use for linework. I’m picky about these even though they appear to be pretty simple. Basically I want these brushes to emulate drawing with a sign pen on smooth paper.
The next category is for texture and shading, the final category is "special occasions." These are brush sets I use when I'm after a specific look.

I downloaded Kyle's Mega Pack, and from there, I started to favorite the ones I like, and removing the rest. Kyle has a lot of fantastic brushes.

It would be great if you showed how to instal them. I couldn’t find those brushes of Kyle’s that you mentioned.
I’ll try to remember to cover that, but really all you do is go to find more brushes at the bottom of your brush menu and find the set you want and tap Add Brushes.
@atomiceyescream add a new brush set and look for the Megapack. You’ll find the first brush he mentions there.

Edit: I just subscribed to Fresco for a month trial and downloaded some brushes. I was wondering what that cool brush was that you use in some of the vids and I have found it. I love that classic inker by retro supply. I'm gonna hold back with the texturing stuff for now and see how the basis Fresco goes. Thanks for the vids man!

Great stuff Chris! I just discovered Fresco since I had to get a subscription to Adobe and was looking around for something to use for my live caricatures for events. Pretty excited about what Fresco has to offer. Just having some trouble figuring out how to do things with the shapes. Don't know if I can use them the way I use them in Illustrator?

Long time procreate user here butt I have been slowly experimenting with fresco here and there thanks to you. I was about to purchase my favorite retro supply brush pack for photoshop to finally commit to fresco… then realized I have to subscribe to fresco and pay the $9.99 or whatever yearly. Super bummed. Anyway~ enjoying your videos and always lookin forward to the next one 👍

Great video. Any idea bout Calligraphy for long sentences?
I usually don’t letter things that are much longer than a sentence mostly because I letter like I’m illustrating rather than actual calligraphy or traditional lettering.
They should implement this favorite system in Photoshop as well... Brushes are really a mess in Photoshop...
I got the retrosupply brushes that make ben day dots on procreate. But I want to make ben day dots on fresco in vector format. But I havent seen anything like that for fresco
Unfortunately you can’t import vector brushes (aside from presets for fresco). Would be cool if that changed.
Ok, so I’ve dug around a bit, but I can’t find where/how to set the minimum brush size. Am I blind for missing this option? Don’t make fun of me too much… new to iPad illustration here. PS, great videos! Keep ‘em coming!
Oh hah, I think that’s my bad for how I worded it. I just decide on a minimum size for a specific piece and then don’t go below it.
Hey Chris, that mega pack is something else, that’s an exploration in itself sifting through them. Quick question, do you know if there’s a way to rearrange your fav list? I want to put my most used brushes at the top. I tried drag & drop but no luck there. Also, enjoying your channel man, v cool.
Oh yeah almost forgot, how much could Fresco do with a 'search brushes' function...
Definitely agree! Kyle is a wizard! I don’t know if there’s a way to organize brushes in favorites easily, but that would be great. I’m going to look into that! I’ll report back.
@@chris-piascik I've looked too, can't find anything. It's not like I have lots of favs, but enough to make that list scroll a little. I recon the only way at this stage is to make a screen grab of them, un favourite them, then re fav them in the order you want. GRRR... ADOBE, IT'S 2023 :) Cheers, Mick.

I’m constantly changing the default setting of any given brush for size/flow/colour etc. I find myself wanting to create a sub set of brushes. Let’s say (for example) one brush in my favs, instead of using that same brush at the default setting but adjusting the flow/size etc every time, to have the ability to save multiple ‘iterations’ (not sure that’s the correct word) of any given brush. So I can have a pencil brush at size 6, flow 100, colour green then save that as a custom name ‘6 green’ whatever. Then another version of that same brush with a different name. On rereading that all sounds clear as mud. Hopefully someone understands 😂
Haha I get it. I saw in an update to the beta version of the app that “brush management” was coming soon. So I think that might solve your problems!

Hi! It’s in the mega pack. In the brush menu click on the option to find more brushes and you’ll see it there.
Do Photoshop brushes work as vectors in fresco?
They do not, pixel brushes work entirely different than vector brushes do. Pixel brushes use an image/graphic that you sort of push around the canvas filling in pixels. Whereas vector brushes are plot out points with paths connecting them, no actual image is used.
I own a bunch of these brushes in procreate, what is the reason that you prefer fresco? Thx!

I feel dumb asking this. 2Smooth 2B looks super pixelly when I use it. I notice your brush size is 20... What am I doing wrong? It looks like a vector on your screen.
That sounds like your document size is too small. I generally work around 4000 pixels wide.
When I click 'upgrade', I get an offer from Adobe for GBP 9.98 per MONTH not year.. I wonder if this is only for the Desktop version? Which I would like to use together with the iPad version.. I don't want Photoshop but I would like to be able to switch between Desktop and iPad versions of Fresco but not for GBP 9.98 per month when either version is free on its own.
That’s so weird, I can’t imagine they would price it differently outside of the US. There should be a Fresco only version. The 9.99 / month option includes Photoshop I believe. I’ll see if I can find anything out.
Is this all in vector? Or pixelated?
These are raster/pixel brushes.
I tried downloading the Kyle Webster megapack on my ipad pro. The brushes don't show up unless I restart the whole ipad. Whenever I close the app and reopen it later, the brushes disappear again. Anybody know how to fix this?
That’s weird, I haven’t had that issue. Maybe it’s because the megapack is so large? Have you tried favoriting some of the brushes and seeing if those stay loaded?
@@chris-piascik Ya maybe that's why. I have tried favoriting brushes, but they don't stay loaded. I've also tried downloading just one of his brush packs and the same thing happens. I'll try to figure something out. Thanks!
Is there a symmetry tool I'm fresco? I can't seem to find it
It’s not currently, but I think I heard that it’s coming. They’ve been adding new features every 6 weeks.

Are you trying to add brushes you already have, or are you trying to add them from the “get more brushes” feature?

Probably? I don’t know though because I’ve never looked for one. That said Fresco can use any Photoshop brush.
