- The Westfjords (also called West Fjords or Vestfirdir in icelandic) is a large, very mountainous and sparsely populated peninsula in northwestern Iceland.
The coastline is heavily formed by multiple fjords and it is mostly surrounded by steep hills.
This part of Iceland is not flooded with tourists like many places in the south of the country.
If you like scandinavian landscapes and nature, peace and quiet, truly unspoiled wilderness, a visit to Westfjords will not disappoint you.

Bardastrandarsandur is a sand beach located in the south of the Westfjords.

Saurbaer is a small settlement at the Northeast of Breidafjördur with a small church named Saurbaejarkirkja and a sand beach named Raudisandur Beach.
02:41 - Patreksfjördur
Patreksfjördur is a beautiful icelandic village and the biggest town in the southern part of the Westfjords.

Breidavík is a small settlement with a quaint church named Breidavíkurkirkja located at a sand beach in the Westfjords.

This is a swimming pool and hot spring located in Reykjafjördur, a small fjord in the middle of beautiful Icelandic nature.
05:45 - Dynjandi Waterfall
Dynjandi, also known as Fjallfoss, is a series of seven cascading waterfalls and is the major tourist attraction in the Westfjords.
It's name translates to "the Thunderer" in English and Dynjandi cascades 100 m over terraces of basalt rocks.

We did a week in the Westfjords in May 2022. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Don't put it off. Go there, Take your time. Stop and hike. See the lambs in the spring. Go to the beaches. It's worth every bumpy gravel road.

this video is incredible. I really want to do a road trip of the west fjords. It's an area that not many people talk about. Everyone goes to Reykjavik and the south coast but barely go the Fjords of the East and West.
