The first ten seconds of this video is why I would prefer the ICON versions of these trucks. It’s amazing the amount of effort that went into the simple task of driving a pickup truck back in the day.
Sweet truck man I got some White Walls for my 54 pickup truck today and I just got back from taking the ol girl out and she ran on them like a dream :)
When I was a kid my dad had one like yours. His had a 4 speed transmission. We lived in a trailer and the truck pulled it all up and down the east coast as Dad chased the big jobs. One suggestion, pull the steering wheel and turn it so it's right side up when you're going straight.
Lee, thank you for also noticing the crooked position of the steering wheel! Nothing takes away from the beauty of a restored vehicle than a poorly installed steering wheel. Lastly, there's no reason to start out in 1st gear on one of these trucks with the 4-speed top-loader compound low transmission. That gear is strictly for pulling away from a dead stop while hauling a heavy payload; not for normal driving while empty. You treat 2nd gear in these compound-low trannies like a 1st gear in a normal 3-speed.
Nice! Well I'm a professional inspector based in Dallas, Texas, my site is Samspace81.com I'd check the paint, body, metal, undercarriage, suspension, engine, transmission & rear end, gauges, shift characteristics, glass, rubber, etc. You didn't mention if it had been "clipped" with disc brakes, etc. In that case, I'd see how the front clip was mated to the frame, etc. - SAM
It would have been extremely useful if during the restoration the owner has installed some sound dampening in the cabin of the 1950 Chevy truck. Great trucks back then but they were bare bones and didn’t consider noise levels. The cabin would have benefited greatly from sound dampening in the back seat, headliner, floor and firewall behind the engine.
Oh yea! This video is proof why others play stupid country music while showing off these beauties of the 50's. These old gal's are beautifully noisy, Winnie, an clung key. Don't even need a radio the sound of the road, pave or dirt, winding out of the gears, horn, wipers, bumps, wind in your face. And when you get home late at night under the stars, break open that bottle of Tequila from under the seat or that six pack of cold brew an put down the tail gate, set an enjoy Heaven.
I drove a 50 with a 216 babbit , then got a 52 with a 235 , drove it hunting and fishing school from 10 years old till I left to go to ft Benning Georgia, after my graduation dance, dad talked to me and a neighbor woman was hard up against it, and needed a good way of going , so we gave her my pickup. She needed it , but I have my regrets now .
Yep, needs to adjust the valve lash so it's not so noisy. Intakes are .006 and exhaust .018. A more sensible choice is to just go with hydraulic lifters and appropriate cam, so you don't have to mess with valve adjustment issues.
After viewing the video again, I couldn't help but notice how grossly misaligned the steering wheel is. It's off kilter by at least 90 degrees! Ugh, that's like fingernails on a chalkboard major faux pas! I hope that's been corrected since this video was first posted. I commented on a similar issue on another guy's video who was showing off an equally pristine restored '51 Chev 3600 flat-bed farm truck. Sorry, but that's just not a good look on a nicely restored vehicle.

It’s nice to see these Chevrolet classic pickups with only four windows, rather than the six window style cab.
Appreciate you watching 👀
Chevy & GMC produced those generation pickups, Suburbans, & Panel trucks from mid-1947 through mid-1955.
Love these bodys
@@samspace81 same here. Is it all original? I bet it turns a lotta head when u take it out on the road.
I don't care what anyone says, the Thriftmasters are the best looking pickups ever made. And probably the best looking ones that'll ever be made haha

A pet peeve of mine too Carl V! :) Appreciate you watching again ha
He abusing it winding out so high before shifting.
No, rpms drop and it slides right into gear
Just saying
I can dig what you're saying too :) Workhorses
Why do so many owners want to put these ugly clown tires on these trucks. Doesn’t do justice for the history of these WORK trucks
This one is retired and dressed for success haha
