The last tenants we had before finally selling that property used scotch tape to keep a cracked outlet cover on the wall & taped the chain onto the ceiling fan & their dog ripped every window screen & they blamed it on strong wind

Never had a mouse problem when renting, but bought my first house recently (a fixer upper) and immediately had mice problems.
I thought about buying a cat to patrol the place, but instead I taught my tiny dogs to hunt mice until I found where they were getting in.
No more mice in the house now so the dogs use their newfound hunting abilities to patrol for bugs lol
That's pretty cool! Patrol pups!
My dogs kills mice, lizards, basically anything he doesn't like roaming around and like a cat, brings it to show us how proud he is!

I have a cat and we had a mouse for awhile in the winter. He didn't catch him. Little stinker was eating crumbs on the kitchen counter and I guess licking food from dirty dishes in the sink. Figured this out when there were some pellets so he was sneaky. Didn't see him until he was dead. We got him with a mouse trap by using a little cheese as bait.

Hilarious. As an owner in the south, I keep the AC a few degrees warmer when it’s super hot so that our old AC can keep going. As a renter, I would never care about that.
Renter: “Coils frozen? How you gonna fix it? Yea I know it’s 105 outside, that’s why we need it at 68.”
Owner: “sorry babe, it’s 95 outside, need to turn it up to 78. Turn the fan in if you’re hot. Kids, stop opening the damn door!“

Damn... second house owned, but with three kids and two dogs, I sometimes wonder if we act like closer to the renters (ah hell, it's going to get f**ked up anyway).
Right after we bought our house, we had some intense summer storms, and I literally had nightmares that our roof caved in or was blown away or our house flooded. The pressure is real. We had been living in the house for years as renters before we bought it too and I didn’t expect a huge difference but it was.

I’ve lived in the same place for 5.5 years now, and the only consistent neighbor I’ve had is a guy named Craig next door.
I've lived here 10 years, and I kind of start knowing the other people in my building (but then they move out and I have to start over!), but not in the buildings on either side of us. 🤷🏻♀️
12 yrs only know names cause I sometimes get their mail. Growing up I knew everyone.
Our little street everybody knows everybody except for the people in the 1 house that's rented... no clue. 😆

Instead of mice, we had a townhouse with a whole FAMILY of raccoons in the ceiling! You could see them all lined up peeking out the holes under the overhang (what is that called? An eave?). Anyway, a handyman came, scared them out with really loud music, and then repaired the holes. Peaches and Unyons!

As a landlord, this is spot on.
My husband and I have been renters for our entire 20 year marriage with no plans of buying. While we’ve never mistreated a rental, the amount of time we spend at one and the amount of care we put into things like small fixes so we don’t have to bother our landlord (like touching up peeling caulk in the tub right when we notice it, or replacing things that should be the landlords responsibility because we may want to do it more often like the air filters, or replacing gross old faucets at our own labor and expense with nicer ones) is directly tied to the amount of respect and trust shown to us by our landlord. If they treat us like we’re just some dumb people who are going to destroy their house then we aren’t going to show them any courtesy whatsoever. If they constantly hit us with a 10% rent increase each year just because they can, they are showing us they don’t respect us as valuable tenants and we are going to leave as soon as we can and we’re going to leave their house in the bare minimum condition in which we received it.
Our current landlord is awesome. He has given us permission to paint, have our TV mounted and cords run behind the wall, hang shelves, etc.. to make our home the way we want to live in it. We’ve been here for years, we’ve had a total of $75 in rent increases, and we have an open line of communication. we pay for a landscaper, a housekeeper, and we make sure that the little stuff isn’t ignored.
But I’ve also had landlords that show up unannounced and peek through my blinds like creepy stalkers. I had one peek into my bedroom while I was changing claiming he “was just checking up on the place”.
Landlords need to realize that they aren’t doing tenants a favor by renting to us. They are being paid. Tenants are human beings and deserve to treated as more than just your cash cows that you are parking inside your investment. If you don’t want to do the work then don’t be a landlord.

I sent this video to a couple friends at work, and she reminded me of how guys can use duct tape to fix just about everything, like I've seen a guy use it to fix the sneakers that he loved because they had a hole (obvious choice might be get new ones?). Lol. Or when they start to use it for a car bumper, or holding up parts, so they don't fall down. Also, I've seen guys use a zip strip instead of getting a new car part. Just zip er up and you'll be ready to head out!! Lmao. 🥰🥰👍👍

I want to own my own place, but I have no clue why people buy big houses and put effort into making them look pristine. Get a cute little house, put lights up so it looks cool at night, and decorate it in a way that a little wear and tear won't be the end of the world. I'm talking old furniture, hardwood, wood burning stove, tapestries, knicknacks. Then u don't have to worry about making it look like a fucking bank, just keeping everything working and sanitary.
Surprised there's not a ''rent to own'' view, like, ''I know I'm renting, but I do care about improvements...''

I must be weird. I won't even drive nails into the walls of my apartment to hang a picture. I use Command hooks because they're removable and they don't damage the walls. But I've been living here for six years and have no plans to move, so of course I want to take good care of the place. It's my home.

If landlords didn't try to find reasons to keep deposits, especially after I've fixed things and made the place better than when I moved in, I might be inclined to take better care of a place that I'm renting. I've had good landlords, but after one too many crappy ones, I really don't care that much about taking care of someone else's property.

Peaches and onions. Owners and renters, I have been both. But the worst is being parent of a (college) renter! Clean that shit up to get the security deposit back!
Don't forget the intrinsic part of renters life, the layers of grime underneath the paint that is basically reverse primer so your wall paint sometimes just falls off. And the caulk used in lieu of actual repairs.
