@@juarezbryan85 I felt it because I had a falling out with a friend in 2015. We haven't spoken at all and I still think about him. He was a groomsmen at my wedding, we met the first day of junior high. When you lose a friend but they're still around is a different kind of pain. I just wish I could talk to him sometimes, like Colin.

    • @Nnamz
      @Nnamz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Yup. That one hurt quite a bit.
Something I'm actively trying to remember, though, is that only one side is talking about this. Colin has been refreshingly candid about all these, especially in this episode, so it's much easier to empathize with Colin over time because of this. But it's clear that Greg is also hurt a great deal (if you watched Colin's last episode at KF, you could argue that Greg was more hurt than anyone in that moment). He's just probably dealing with it by pushing it aside and focusing on other things, whereas Colin would rather deal with it directly. I've done both. Most broken friendships or breakups I've had have been mitigated by direct communication, but I had a particularly painful breakup 6 years ago where I simply had to cut that person out entirely and sever all communication attempts. That's simply what was healthy for me at the time, and that might be what's healthy for Greg. Everybody is different.
I hope with time this will hurt Colin less.

Remember that Tim back in 2015 was very young and very stupid. I doubt he'd say those things if he were his age now. He's said as much, like the Disney princess fuck topic they kicked things off with. The coarse things he said to Colin would be very in line with little Tim.

Especially when he’s not even being THAT CONTROVERSIAL. We all know there are people out there saying truly awful shit. Colin doesn’t even qualify. I’ve always felt Colin was a genuine dude, and all those personal attacks against him felt hollow to me, lacking any sort of substance. It all felt reactionary. It makes me so angry because it feels like it can happen to any one of us. Even a misunderstanding. Even just a brain fart can ruin relationships. It feels like there is no room to just have a genuine conversation about something serious, even if people disagree. The worst part about this is you can tell that after living with his best friend for a decade, he can't tell the story you know he wants to, just clear the air, but it will incite drama. I feel so much for him you can tell that he made mistakes and he admits that here. He lost his best friend who he now thinks wasn't really his best friend after all.
Just take a look at the KF subreddit, they say when Colin talks about this it sends a wave of hate to KF so don't do it, he wouldn't want it. But there is reason people keep asking about this situation. The worst thing KF could have done is stay quiet, they should have just put their cards on the table and let the chaos die down. Now they will get questions about this in perpetuity.
I don't need the intimate details of these men’s lives but if you are Greg how can you let this destroy a friendship that lasted a decade, a man who helped you through cancer! Fuck business, you get very few people in this world that are ride or die, I don't know their relationship, but I bet Colin made mistakes and was partly to blame but you work through that for a man who would "Go to the mat" for you.
At the end of the day the way he sees it was, colin jeopardised their livelihood, but honestly, they did that to themselves when they left their partner to the wolves. people saw it as morally incredulous and couldn't take them seriously. It’s not colins fault the business took a hit after his departure, just like it’s not their fault colin was constantly out-voted and wanted to take the business a different direction.

His point about them being progressive and still doing well… I think he forgets to mention why they’re different. They don’t really bring up politics. Sometimes it’ll peer through (mostly from Ian), but unless it’s inseparable from the topic it really doesn’t come up much. Not even as jokes/jabs. They stick to their content and do it well. MinnMax is pretty similar in that case (although they’re new) and they do great work and get interviews most other people (even at big sites) aren’t getting.
I find it disheartening when some bigger outlet like GameXplain covers interesting bits from their interviews and gets more attention than the original source. They can let everyone else do their work and profit off of it.

What Jaffe is saying here about Gregg is surrounded by versions of Greg, is EXACTLY what I had said some years ago AND Gregg has even acknowledged he gets the comment regularly. IMO, this is especially evident in the movies in review because there is so little difference in opinions and it hurts the final product.

This was an excellent episode. I planned to eat my dinner while watching TV-as I always do. Instead, I couldn’t stop listening to this and watched it straight through.
I grew a lot/even more respect for Jaffe in this. He’s a pretty awesome dude. Both him and Colin seem to be some of the most intelligent in the industry.
Also, extremely interesting to finally hear more about the KF situation. I used to love Greg a ton, but over the last couple years I’ve slowly grown to realize how disingenuous he is-to the point where I pulled my Patreon support and rarely listen to any of KF’s stuff any longer. It became evident that Greg cares more about his reputation and looking virtuous than most everything else. I think he has some good qualities, but he also has a very fake and hypocritical side, and I have little respect for that. As for Nick? Man, I love that dude. And Andy actually puts up a good fight for my #1 favorite. And Blessing is really good as well.

I tried to watch Kinda Funny after Colin left but it simply wasn't interesting anymore. Greg always needed Colin to balance him and that's what made their content great. It's what makes Sacred Symbols great because Chris fits in well with Colin and is actually, imo, funnier than Greg.
I also couldn't stand to hear the "Best friend" mantra after Colin left. It just seemed so hollow and fake. It definitely was apparent in the content now, looking back, that the four of them had some sort of rift. The reason it's apparent is because Sacred Symbols does not have that issue. Colin, Chris, and Dustin feel more like a friend group than the KF crew ever did.
It just sucks that Colin had to go through that because of the four of them, he's the most genuine person with Nick being a close 2nd.

    A couple random takeaways:
I hate to harp on this, but when Jaffe said Kinda Funny got "too vanilla", that just rung so true to me. I actually tried to listen to KF still after Colin left, and honestly for a little while it worked, and I honestly credit most of that to Andrea Rene. Like her or not, she actually did push back on Greg and the others' constant positivity and giddiness, she wasn't quite the anchor Colin was but she held things down pretty well in his absence. But now since she's gone, I just can't listen to them anymore. The Blessing kid seems like a really, really nice guy... but I just don't enjoy him as a host Ah well! To each their own.
Also, I was very happy to hear Colin say he still considers Dave Rubin a friend. Weirdly, I was wondering if those two still liked each other, I just hadn't seen them interacting as much as they used to, and I know a lot of people unfortunately seemed to "sour" a bit on Dave (to each their own, I still like him and think he's mostly sincere in what he says). I'd love to see those two catch up on a show sometime.
