    I'd like you to do a video on the stealth shot system fitted to recurve. And actually is there a great difference with are without the stealth shot system fitted to a recurve

    ive noticed in a few of your previous videos that you say that you keep all the bows you own, you should do a video about them and how the sport has changed!

      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The big change came with the parallel limbs and compression limbs which was 15 years ago roughly. But saying that the Mathews Conquest is really unchanged. Recurves have better carbon and Foam.
      Scores are up - String material has improved alot, Cam design is better.
      But I will put together new vs old. Thanks

    You need to measure arrow speed at mid range as well as just before the target
    . Heavier projectiles loose less speed than light if the drag is equal. Different makes/styles of arrows will have different drag co-effients. The bottom line is that you are trying to get the shortest flight time (least time for wind affect) for accuracy

    down range the lighter arrow may give up more of its speed than the heavier arrow due to physics.. do the same test at 50 or 60m

      Years ago I trained a boy who became the Australian champion - At the nationals he would win the shorter distances but be beaten at the longer distance because the other shooters had lighter arrows. When he got those arrows he won. Even now I shoot 38# and at the shorter distances I am comfortable that I could compete with anyone in my State, but at the longer distance I will struggle. I may be wrong. But my plan is from here to the State title to increase strength and shoot the lighter arrows in comparison and compare the scores. I have found people who shoot McKinney at the longer distances tend to shoot better then other archers catch up at the shorter distances. What you need to is compare your scores at distances and map it, so you know what to work on. The heavier points are meant to be more stable in wind. But saying that Rick McKinney shoots really well with his arrows and he certainly does not shoot the arrows he once did. This is what makes archery fun

      A bit about me: (Sorry I might ramble)
      I come to archery from field target air rifle shooting. Where the caliber and ammo weight debate persists. UK law limits the rifle power, just as a persons strength limits draw weight. I presume the similar physics applies.
      So new to archery. I first used W&W Challenge arrows, I now shoot the heavier alu/carbon composite arrows as they are easier to find with the metal detector when my stray shots hide in the grass and they appear to be less affected by wind. The club hires a field in the local park and every effort has to be made to find lost arrows to stop the dog walkers and picnickers hurting themselves.
      The physics: (Probably of more interest to hunters but applies to target shooters too)
      A light round is indeed flatter and faster to shoot but theres a point down range where the the external forces over come the light weight and the shot arc suddenly drops off, where a heavier projectile is slower and the arc is more pronounced but doesn't have the sudden drop off.
      Wind: The faster light projectile has less time to be affected where the heavier projectile has more mass momentum to resist the wind.
      The light weight projectile will give up a bigger percentage of its energy to the forces of drag and gravity down range. I just wondered how much.
      In the end in FT shooting as in archery there are more people shooting small and light than large and heavy, but a good shot is a good shot regardless of what they use. I just find it interesting.
      If in doubt.... Learn from the Koreans :-)

    Some of the Olympic archers I've been watching wouldn't be able to run Marathons - they'd have a job running to the end of the street ;)

      @mortenjacobsen5673 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats why its important to use the most bio mechanical shot cycle and build up endurance in your muscles so they can make more efficient use of the oxygen and transporting away the lactic acid. aerobic endurance is different from strength endurance since the lungs and muscles consist of different tissue like fibrous and smooth muscles

      I use to shoot with Jackson Fear - He was over weight, but he shot so many arrows every day. He won world Juniors and did well as an Adult. But the Korean archers and people like Rick McKinney swear by it. I struggle to run, but I know when my breathing is better then my scores are better. But I still need to shoot the arrows. So it is a balance for me of work, family, shooting, weights and I so need to do more cardio.

    • @consume_vegetables
      @consume_vegetables 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cardio is always good for you. Muscles need oxygen too. Besides, it is the athlete's obligation to be in top shape no matter the sport ;)

    • @deathwish8672
      @deathwish8672 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I thought he meant shot marathons. You can run all day everyday and not be able to shoot any more arrows than before. Archery is probably one of the few sports where cardio isn't much of a factor. Working a few of the large muscle groups in your back and shoulders would definitely help though. Anyway I get cleaner shots and even cleaner releases with bcy 8125

    Forgive me because I'm just learning but is it really that hard to move up in draw weight? Like if a person just moved up say two pounds every two weeks or so? I hope I'm not sounding insulting.

    please in case you have tested for target shooting not just for speed. have you noticed the fast flight is more forgiving?

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Win and Win said Fast Flight was more forgiving. But I know alot of top recurve shooters shooting different string types. I did start with BCY 8125. But honestly for me it is all about how much I shoot. How steady I am while aiming and pulling through the clicker.

  • @PhillyChease81

  • @toxy1948
    @toxy1948 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    8125 is quieter than your Fast Flight string.Possibly the speed difference is because you made the Fast Flight to the correct brace height. Tell the olympic archers that brace height does not matter.

    How do you like the Win&Win WT vibration dampener? I'm looking at buying a pair for my bow to quiet it down. Is it worth the money? W&W says it's made out of plastic.... is that a draw back in any way to you or is it a quality dampener?

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is fine- $20 each. Is it worth $20 each. I don't think it would change the scores, but I was trying to reduce vibration and I thought it may look good. I know limbsavers work but I have not fitted them yet. But I should. I really just wanted the bow to look good. Then added more weights to balance it and make it harder to move. Then it is all about shooting lots of arrows. I do like these stabilizers. I have fitted others but have gone back to the Wiawis as they feel nice.

    I've always noticed fast flight plus to be about the same as the bcy8125g, but I tend not to use the ffp because Brownell is so vague about the materials they use. You should try the 8190 material, personally I don't like it but many find it to be a tad faster. My personal favorite is the angel majesty thread, it's really something different compared to all to other threads and supposedly Is also one of the fastest, and for me also the quietest.
    Ps. I dont think that th Koreans use Brownell fast flight plus, form what I have heard they use the original fast flight, which is not sold anymore since they started to use the material for bulletproof vests.

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A couple of archers use Angel here. I think the string I am using is BCY 652 Spectra. I will give the 8190 a go once I start shooting scores again. See if there is a difference in speed and score.

    to compensate for poundage get foam or carbon limbs that are as short as possible and the lightest arrow setup you can be consistent with

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes - so when I suggest arrow spine - which is a guess I take into account what limbs and roughly the speed. But it is a guess and I hope I get it right. There are arrow charts and I find the Win and Win arrow chart good, I find the Easton Arrow chart a bit stiff.

    Just a thought, W&W warn that low stretch strings (low creep give you a clue) are to be avoided, as they can damage limbs. Hoyt controls this area by stating that you can only use Hoyt supplied strings warranty wise and those are FF+.
    Too strong a string and you lose the cushioning that the string needs to give the limbs.
    Elastic stretch Dyneema products SK75 have around a 3.6% elastic elongation,
    452X and BC-X that is reduced to 2.5%
    Fury it is 2.7%.
    SK 90 and SK99 Dyneema have reduced stretch 2.7" and 3%.
    For your HOYT limbs, you should be using Hoyt made strings and that is how they protect themselves from limb failures caused by
    inappropriate strings. Failure can take 1, 2 or three years to happen.

    In a sport where consistency is a major factor why do you not measure your braceheight. The brace height can have a impact on the tuning of your bow. Too high and it can stiffen your arrow and too low it can make it weaker thus affecting your grouping. Also I was not aware that a higher brace height could increase the poundage if your limbs, I will have to google that fact.

    • @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale
      @ArcherySuppliesLonsdale  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ok so I tested 70" limbs with a 68" string having a large brace. The speed through the chrono was almost identical. So the variation in me far exceeds any change in brace height. Also brace does not really change much. So more important to train and focus on my shooting.

    • @x3roxide
      @x3roxide 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale just wanted to add, changing the brace height will not alter your draw weight at full draw. what it does do is increase the pre-load stress on the limbs and reduce the power stroke.
      it's great to fine-tune your arrows in a pinch for longbow/traditional. However for everything else, I use as high a brace height as I can get away with since a shorter power stroke essentially means a more forgiving bow.

    I'm more interested in why you can't draw 46 lbs. As a hunting only Archer that only shoots a Target when it's deer, turkey, or hog shaped if baffles me. Most women and teens I know 45 lb is a minimum before you chase white tail.

    • @Soneoak
      @Soneoak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because compound draw weight is different front recurve.
      The further back your draw, the heavier it it gets, the harder it is to hold.
      I have a 35lb recurve and i shake at full draw after holding for a while even though I can draw 70lb on a compound.

      @x3roxide 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on your focus. hunting for sure, I'll use 60 - 80 lbs no problems, max distance ~ 30m.... not if I want to shoot at targets 90m away and practice with >300 arrows per day. you need to be able to have full control with the ability to repeat the shot cycle many times over without fatigue.

It's like you're trying to split the atom with the most expensive hammer you can make, just so someone can say, 'well done, you're the most anally compulsive among us' and hand you a medal.
