  • In today's video we are going to introduce a waltz. This is how I initially teach the concept of waltzing to my beginner students.
A waltz is done in a 3 count and that is why we start by working on incorporating that rhythm into your body. Once you feel comfortable moving across the floor we will add the turn and the switch of legs.
Make sure to check out my next video where we will move faster and add the arms!

Explaining to always show the ‘front’ leg has been a game changer for me. I finally feel like it flows for me! Thank you!

As an adult beginner a few years ago this took me ages to get my head around, your video would have been very helpful at that stage!. It was a nice reminder now.

It looks like a mixture of Mazurka and Waltz….and it always starts with a step on „one“…

Thank you so much for this video. I've never had a teacher be willing to explain what the waltz step actually is, no matter how allegedly basic intro absolutely no experience necessary of a class I took. They always just scold about the "feel" of it without explaining the *steps* of it. You're the first person who mentioned that the brush occurs as a kind of fondu with the standing leg bent, and all-importantly, the staging goal of presenting the outside line to the audience, which makes it a THOUSAND times easier. Thank you SO MUCH for being willing to explain trade secrets that no other teacher will ever discuss!

aw this comment is making my day! Yes, I'm all about asking questions and facilitating back and forth conversation between teachers and students so we can learn our best way.
